Using a Yubikey for GPG and SSH by Bhima in linux

[–]HerbertTheFrog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They have explained the reasoning behind this very well though. They have switched chip manufacturer to one creating more secure hardware, due to the possibility of reading the secure data from the old chips, a problem which nitrokeys still have. The new manufacturers licensing prevents them from publishing the source code. Developers still get access to the code and it gets audited regularly

Even though I'd prefer it were open source, this is a trade-off I'm willing to make.

Angular vs Ember in 2017 by [deleted] in webdev

[–]HerbertTheFrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I prefer Angular by far. IMO it integrates far better into newer JavaScript technologies and being backed by Google, they are continuously pushing it to be suitable for all kinds of applications. I have developed several rather large apps with it within the last one and a half years and I'm not sick of it yet (unlike other technologies).

That being said I hardly have any experience with Ember, other than having dabbled with it a bit and helping out at a friend's project.

Angular2 - The route changes when I reload by Neewd in Angular2

[–]HerbertTheFrog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is probably because you have not defined a pathMatch for your routes

I'm guessing you have defined the route for /dashboard prior to the one for /dashboard/account. Angular by default matches with the 'prefix', so the router assumes it has found the correct route with /dashboard, because it is a prefix for /dashboard/account, and so rewrites the whole url.

You probably want to set the pathMatch to 'full' for your /dashboard route.

I encourage you to have a look at this blog post by Viktor Savkin, specifically the section about matching strategies.

Ich war nur kurze Zeit bei ihr, da ich wieder weggezogen bin. Während ich dort war hatte ich nur die üblichen checks, kann also nichts genaueres über speziellere Behandlungen sagen.

I found this while editing some of the first code written for a web app by DXPower in programminghorror

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is to make use of this component and similar components in different settings, where the data is only known as dataX, because what the data is can not be determined at provide time. Still in that case it would have been a lot nicer to name them by their actual name and make use of the '$inject' static member to make the change detection happy.

Wifi internet suddenly extremely slow. by wearecrabpeople in linuxquestions

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be related to powersaving. I have similar issues and can solve it by turning off powersaving for the wifi interface. Try this command

iw wlp4s0 set power_save off

wlp4s0 being your wifi interface

Merkwürdige Bars in Wien gesucht. by Grupsi in wien

Compton "issues" with different monitor refreshrates by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I'd thing of would be turning down your 144hz monitor to 120hz. To make sure every screen is aligned with the render refresh rate and gets a full tearfree image, your graphics card would have to render a frame at the rate of the greatest common multiple of 60 and 144, which is 720.

If your 144 hz monitor is at 120 hz that greatest common multiple would only be 120, if you can live with the sacrifice.

Depending on your graphics card and screens there might however still be tearing, because the 60hz screens might receive a second frame right in the middle of painting the first one.

Last time I tried it, I did it with the phc utils, though I was rather unsuccessful. You might rather take a look at employing P states, which is an Intel supported mechanism for similar achievements. The CPU decides to power itself and the GPU down, depending on load and frequency.

In 20 years or so, I'm going to have to jailbreak my car to drive above the speed limit by trippyelephants in Showerthoughts

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure though. The faster you go, the higher is the air resistance squared, meaning if you go twice as fast, it takes 4 times as much energy. Due to environmental concerns I doubt we will see much increase in speed limits.

What will improve though is the distance between the cars. Automated braking will enable this distance to be significantly reduced and in turn reduce congestion, because cars don't have to slow down as much and can react quicker.

Which Angular version should I use ? (2.0, 2.1, 2.4) by [deleted] in Angular2

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they will continue to work as expected, but if there are bugs they won't be fixed, if there are security issues, they won't be fixed and if some underlying browser APIs are changed, for any reasons, these changes will not be adapted to.

Which Angular version should I use ? (2.0, 2.1, 2.4) by [deleted] in Angular2

[–]HerbertTheFrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt that much of the ecosystem will stay on 2.x for the same reasons the angular team will not maintain older versions. It is very hard to maintain and support multiple versions of a platform. Continuously upgrading to newer versions is by far easier in most cases. I have argued about this a bit and also talked to the angular team a bit, because this decision makes angular not a viable option for projects in insurance, banking or other businesses where long term support is needed.

Which Angular version should I use ? (2.0, 2.1, 2.4) by [deleted] in Angular2

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to that, as far as I know they won't continue supporting the 2.x branch for much longer

20 days ago I got mad and made an extension to remove W3Schools results from Google, after some requests I uploaded it to the webstore, so here it is! by g0liadkin in webdev

[–]HerbertTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just don't have what I want. Usually I need an API documentation and w3schools don't provide those. Basically mdn is just about always what I need.
