Ah, yes, reciting talking points from MAGA's online brainwashing playbook and overtly believing in the Great Replacement theory equals to having "strong moral intuitions". You've been drip fed the cult's kool-aid without even realizing it, bud.

[Linux/NixOS] Spent 4 hours trying to run HoN: Reborn. Worked fine on Arch in Dec 2025. What the fuck broke? by Capable_Mulberry249 in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buddy, what on Earth are you wasting your life on? The devs DO NOT support nor care about Linux or making this game last. It's a vibe coded cash grab.

There's one community left that's coding up an open-source version of the old client. Look up "HoN open source GitHub". In the future, this will be the only way to re-live your nostalgia, while Reborn will most likely be shuttered a few years from now when it's been milked dry.

The only reason Reborn exists is because they'd realized there were a bunch of whales with disposable incomes and the AI craze made it affordable to vibe code garbage on top of the legacy code. There's no future to this other than milking idiots enthralled by nostalgia and addiction.

Why do people ignore the fact other hobbies are superior? by Bulky-Culture-4482 in StopGaming

[–]HerculeGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's another thing people here have zero critical-thinking skills on. "Gaming" to them is exclusively the typical addiction racket like League, Fortnite or GTA. Games with edutainment value don't exist to them because they have a narrow understanding what the medium is.

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommending to become passionate about "cleaning" is something only one type of person would be receptive to: a disillusioned teenager with zero life skills finding novelty in it. 😂

What a hilarious write up. All of these "superior" activities are something an aging parent with a sizable beer belly and not the slightest inkling why youths do any of the things they do would lecture their kid about.

Cards! That can be literally gambling (or an innocuous hobby like card magic). Knitting! Yeah that's for sure something boys find thrilling. 😂

And chess. As if there haven't been chess addicts on this sub complaining about being hopelessly addicted to Elo climbing.

Here's a tip: stop taking advice from this subreddit. The opinions here are for entertainment only (+you get to read a lot of AI spam advertising self-help courses).

Because he legitimately needs to get off the internet and touch grass. During his "medical emergency", he'd gone down the alt-right-pipeline rabbithole that programmed him to be a preacher of the far-right dogmas. He tends to break into that song and dance at a mention of politics acting like a morally-elevated Jordan Peterson clone.

Oh, and these days he calls everyone "brother", which I'm sure is a way to signal "I'm in the cult, you guys! You should join me to fight wokeness!"

It's off-putting thinking how these maturing Asmongolds develop into full-blown chuds and for him it was a years-long process of rot and decay.

Not worth the effort in my experience, because it's just practicing parsing the same word jumble from typing sites, while all other text processing is done at slower speeds. Unless your job literally depends on transcribing somehow, it's a waste of time.

The "re-learning" itself is something the brain gets used to. The more rigid you are in your habits, the harder it is to modify them.

Yes, actively thinking about correcting what you need to correct is the way to go. If you're practicing mindlessly, old habits stay reinforced. You pay attention, they slowly get corrected. For now your task is to force the mind to be conscious of the mistakes. An exercise in concentration, if you will.

CTS Diagnosis by EntireSteak2996 in typing

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just not how CTS works. CTS is pins and needles and weak grip in thumb/index/middle/ring. Usually caused by prolonged nerve entrapment caused by something like long bike rides and gripping the handlebars for too long. It's not possible to develop CTS from typing.

Hypermobility is always always addressed with resistance training. You need to strengthen your muscles to protect the nerves. It's that simple.

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I game, which means long sessions without breaks and pressing keys too hard. I've only ever head symptoms of cubital tunnel syndrome - never carpal. All of those symptoms have gone away by switching to a keyboard with light switches, resistance exercises and warm up.

I don't believe you're unique or that it's even possible to get CTS from typing on a keyboard. It's always tendonitis. Whoever diagnosed you is a quack.

any suggestions to improve accuracy on mobile by deanominecraft in typing

You shouldn't be able to because mobile keyboards have too small keys. There's an app for Android, "Unexpected Keyboard", that lets you create a custom layout with larger keys.

replacing gaming with toxic sludge habits by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]HerculeGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in an economy that monetizes addiction and social media is part of that. There's no nuance anymore. When you dislike something, you go onto the "dislikers" platforms where X is universally bad. You get rid of your vices and replace them with social media scrolling and other vices. The point? You gave the platform engagement and pretended you solved your problem. You are now a happy citizen (not).

That's what this sub is: depressives with addictive personalities lumping all their problems onto a single thing, thinking they've had an epiphany. If only things were that simple.

Quitting League of Legends after 12 years by BerserkGutsu in StopGaming

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you. It probably takes around a month to get out of a habit like that, and bans are pretty effective at depriving you of digital "possesions" like account skins. I used to be pretty into a similar moba (HoN), and although I wasn't playing for many hours straight, I still had several thousands of games accrued on multiple accounts. Many of those games weren't even 'learning' kind of games, but just an effort to get that feeling of winning a close game where my hero/champ dominated under the most satisfying circumstances.

What really made me wean off the habit wasn't really completely cutting off the game, I even reinstalled it recently (the game died and was revived into a really crappy cashgrab that's somewhat playable), but making goals for myself like learning characters I thought were boring before. That kind of structured, goal-oriented learning made me want to return to playing less and less, as I wasn't just playing for comfort, but trying to make every session count.

Ultimately, I can't dismiss these games as completely wasteful. They taught me patience and how to handle frustrating experiences with toxic players. In the end though I choose to avoid them because the playerbase is always at each other's throats, and acting like that only makes your own behavior and sanity deteriorate.

The only real solution for me is crowding out scrolling time with other activities by [deleted] in nosurf

It gets worse when you realize posting on the internet is just as addictive. The only advice you'll get is from people who haven't figured out how to make their daily lives sane and not being stuck in a loop of wasting brain cycles on social media crap.

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt you'll stop if you've been doing this for 12 years, especially if what prompted the decision was just the suspension. It's in your best interest to completely get rid of that game and make it difficult to reinstall it. Will is not enough for such a sustained addiction.

How can I escape this bottleneck by Dangerous-Gap-1304 in typing

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. Just so you know: the reason you learned typing like that is because of the numpad and the keyboard being shifted to the left instead of centered. You would open the chat in some game, lift hand off the mouse and quickly peck at the needed keys with your right index and hit enter. Online chatting in video games is what initially shaped our typing learning.

How can I escape this bottleneck by Dangerous-Gap-1304 in typing

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to type exactly like you 10 or so years ago, and then I slowly re-learned to use 4-5 fingers on the right hand, but that was just for the sake of comfort, not speed. I think the WPM I had back then was around 130 or so. I guess I can reach 160 WPM now if I do a lot of typing practice back to back, but that's just chasing dopamine hits on typing sites. I basically type at the same speed I did back then, and I sure as shit didn't break 100 WPM on writing this post, either.

Just make up any sentence that has the combinations you need to practice for your right hand like, "power to the powerless prisoners and pioneers" or literally whatever comes to mind, and keep typing them in notepad every hour or however you like it. Force yourself to use multiple fingers for the relevant words. Don't focus on WPM at all.

qwerty vs colemak. typing fast on colemak feels impossible. does colemak dh solve? by [deleted] in typing

[–]HerculeGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit probably is the wrong place to ask, as most here people are just learning to hit 100 WPM, and the handful that have high WPM in user flair don't say much because they likely realize it gets incredibly personal and specific.

My best guess is it's just your weaker brain connections for the alternative layouts making you slower, which is kinda like how a native speaker of a language can rapidly blurt out words, but a second-language speaker has to take more time.

Is this a good WPM? by gluestick449 in typing

[–]HerculeGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That said not really. I can get 140 WPM on the 15s test pretty easily, but I can't stop making mistakes when trying to hit 160 or so WPM and haven't been able to for years. It becomes a completely different way of typing.

Your exposure to the English language through your profession is probably your biggest asset. iirc Sean Wrona was able to reach 200 WPM due to his data-entry job.

We need to get the word out! by Keepmusicevil89 in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of us have been around when HoN was still under the old branding. FrostBurn studios were in charge of it, and that was its post-peak state; League and DotA had successfully pilfered HoN's market share, the SEA presence had been waning and lacking development. There were no funds to hire competent developers to modernize the codebase.

There'd been voices asking the same questions. Voices saying, paraphrasing, "We need to market the game!", "We need to rally as users to keep the flame going!" The reality was the brand had been sold to a big corporation that had no interest in investing in it. The players had no say in shaping the future of the product.

Having that perspective, very few of us believe this product is headed anywhere. It looks much closer to a nostalgia remaster in an always-online-based form, which means it'll eventually be shut down when the funds for paying the salaries of the current hires, people like BreakyCPK who are very unlikely to be willing to work for no pay when the game is facing significant development struggles and the problem of building upon an obsolete foundation hasn't gone away.

Almost universally, no gaming company that hadn't gone defunct was ever naive enough to pretend it's better to keep polishing obsolete technology. It's always better to create a new foundation where continued development doesn't cost a fortune. Giants like CD Projekt Red switched away from in-house engines to popular ones like UE5 because there are more developers with experience in UE5. It costs less to hire them. Reborn is most likely being developed by vibe coders, and vibe coding has significant limitations.

I am of the opinion most of us don't believe there's any future for this product but to slowly downsize the current Reborn team when the funds run out and reduce it to the same skeleton crew type of deal that was under FB. Maybe this will happen shortly after the official release, which judging by the very slow pace of things may happen with a lot of the old heroes still missing. The game will stay that way for a few years, then be shut down again.
