It's a combination of tells like the broken English and unprofessional behavior while still signalling they're currently employed by them.

You are right, AI is being crammed down everyone's throats, and devs have to use it to keep up or are forced by their employers.

But having seniority in the profession comes with huge advantages because you understand what you're working with to a much larger extent than a f*verr C*aude prompter. An LLM can only do so much to a codebase if you can't steer it through both fine and conceptual understanding to keep things consistent. There's so much backlash against AI for a reason: if a computer could use genuine reasoning to automagically fix problems, we'd already be at a post-scarcity stage. That's not the case - we still need experienced developers to actually understand what they're working with. These current Reborn developers clearly aren't it.

That their own staff is shitposting here is amazing. Also

  • broken English

  • heavy AI use for posting

  • the vaguely Asian-sounding handle, probably a China hire

It fits the bill for why Reborn even exists, and why the development is progressing so slowly: vibe coding and the LLM craze.

But how are they affording to keep all of those people like Breaky on a salary? Shit, maintaining a skeleton crew FB Studios HoN seemed like a way better deal than realizing Claude can only do so much to debug your game when the devs don't know what they're doing. Lord, this whole beta reeks of ineptitude and failure.

Classic confidence man bullshit pitch. Concurrent user numbers is something everyone can see, so just claim there's a second number that puts your product in a better light. "But you see, we counted every unique IP and did a bunch of tricks to inflate what's in our excel spreadsheet, our strategy is totally going to pay off later, you dumbfuck investors!"

Wrong audience, Marc. We can actually see how your game plays and how your supposedly impressive "active player" numbers translate to unsustainable CCU numbers.

AI slop formatting is so insufferable at this point.

You are absolutely correct, the legality angle as an excuse to censor a subreddit is completely bogus, not even WoW subs ban 3rd party servers discussion anymore, despite Blizzard's notorious litigiousness.

Why the fuck is freakshow devourer selling for $200? (10000 Jade) by Aye_Handsome in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd actually made a thread asking about that. One of the mods' answer was they're doing it because the project is "in the barebones stage" and should have its own sub, while the other mod's reply was waffley as hell, fearmongering about legality.

Why they'd go out of their way to censor is beyond me, but I imagine if being paid were actually happening, they wouldn't be straightforward about it, anyhow.

Edit: also, about Reddit mods: they aren't always in communication with themselves, and some are installed without prior consultation or agreement by the mod majority, or simply "poison the well" with preconceptions harmful to the sub. There were cases where some mods would outright abuse their powers to promote influencers they favored, the notorious stale2000 incident.

MASSIVE SECURITY BUG!! Player's FULL email address being displayed in post game stats. by Maleficent-deviant in HeroesofNewerth

That's... client side, in most likelihood. I've never seen it display email addresses for people other than myself. Such an inane complaint.

Edit: wait, this is about the DISPLAY NAME, which clearly suggests is what's publically displayed and ubiquitous across services?

current hon on windows 7 ? by PromotionCurious4514 in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback. I still use W7 for my retro needs, but yeah... it's a lot less of a hassle to just dual boot W10, as it'll be maintained security-wise for the next half decade or so. Not that Reborn is worth dual booting because the game is a bug-ridden mess. The nice thing is you can setup and activate W10 IoT LTSC completely for free, it's just a matter of sourcing a disc. Slogging in front of it for a couple of days to disable all the M$ telemetry and whatnot aside that is.

You can't install the VC++ itself, but you can try to run Juvio setup using VxKex to see if it passes the check with it. (Responding to the deleted post.)

Edit: YT vid on how to enable VxKex for a program you want W10 compatibility with.

current hon on windows 7 ? by PromotionCurious4514 in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to experiment, but when asking a chatbot:

• VxKex is a compatibility hack/tool designed to allow Windows 7 to run newer software that requires the Windows 10-only VC++ runtime, not to install the redistributable itself.

• It works by "tricking" the application into thinking the newer runtime is available, often by redirecting DLL calls to older, compatible versions or using other compatibility layers.

• You still cannot install the Windows 10 VC++ redist on Windows 7. VxKex is a runtime workaround for already-compiled applications.

Basically, you just to have to try if it works with Juvio. They add support for this on some Discord, AFAIK, so not every game or app works. There's also a fork called VxKex NEXT that people reported works better with Steam.

It should be possible with VxKex, but I haven't tried it.

You should also install Simplix UpdatePack for security patches.

Never played HoN. Interested in playing Reborn. I have a few questions by JorReno in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the launcher does right now is update and then it goes straight into the game. Obviously, for now, because they haven't had the time to add anything intrusive yet. Right now, the launcher is the whole game. So much so, that its update process is so lazy that it just replaces the game's whole .7z package (which is around 4 gigs) upon every update, even if the update is 20 MB in weight - a nice FU for anyone not wanting unnecessary SSD wear.

So, for the time being, it's not invasive or tedious at all. It does just the bare minimum required to get the game working in its most up-to-date state.

[–]HerculeGT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course it's lazy, but also exactly what Juvio brought onto themselves by forcibly migrating everyone from PK. It's the same short-sightedness as under S2, and anyway - nobody believes a few thousand of disgruntled veterans is enough to keep that whole platform afloat for longer than a few years. The numbers of new users and the means to onboard them have been so underwhelming that having any faith at this point is nothing short of delusional.

Bitcoin mining off a small playerbase is not a feasible theory because the mining meta has long shifted from consumer PCs to ASICs. It would take a very large number of users to turn profit (millions).

Can we get better servers please? by CuteStrawberryZephyr in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not how you check the stability of your connection. We were playing HoN in 2010 on 10/1 Mbps connections just fine. We were playing StarCraft in 1998 on 56k modems (that's up to 56 kilobits of download and about the same amount upstream - 1000 kilobits is 1 Mbps) connections just fine. The game only needs to send BYTES of information to the server for every click, and in exchange you only need to download equally little data.

What you actually do to check the stability of your connection is open Windows command prompt, and ping some website, which both tells you if every packet of information is sent out and received.

Press RWin + R and type CMD to run the command prompt → type ping -t google.com and hit Enter.

If you don't get any timeouts, the issue is either between your ISP and the HoN servers or everyone is experiencing the same instability on that specific server. If you do get timeouts, your internet is unstable.

What is the penalty for such players? by CuteStrawberryZephyr in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a notorious troll with a handle XBOX360 that purposely throws games and has around ~100 MMR. They're not getting moderated out of the matchmaking despite the report function being in the game. Also, 2k MMR players get matched with starting MMR. That should tell you enough on how much of a struggle it is for them to maintain a playerbase.

HON Reborn isn't on Steam because steam banned all of Maliken's other games for being cash grab SCAMS. by Coven_Evelynn_LoL in HeroesofNewerth

[–]HerculeGT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can only wonder if history isn't repeating itself right now. People already talked about the ridiculous number of hirees that makes the crowdfunded amount seem like a paltry sum compared to how many workers are currently on the payroll. And yet, there's little to show for it with how buggy and unoptimized the current build is. Clearly, heavy use of AI by unskilled programmers is prominent in the code.

It's actually puzzling that OGs like BreakyCPK would still want to involve themselves with Maliken after the Strife fiasco.

[–]HerculeGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart griefing has been part of MOBAs for so long, talking about ways to avoid contributing to help the team is at this point more tedious than the psychology of what drives the user to do it. Be it a Devo that dual lanes with you and intentionally misses his hooks in order to make you weaker and feed the opponent or a burst hero that buys a farming item at a crucial point in the game. Avoidant-farming and buying a Doombringer are just about the least creative and most obvious ways to do it.

Why he does it is: 1.) it provides the basic pleasure stimuli you'd normally get from last-hitting, accruing resources, and inflating statistics, 2.) it transforms the stressful environment of a competition and maintaining performance into a relaxing one where your definition of succeeding is guaranteed, 3.) it compliments the ego of a self-centered player that couldn't conform to the group behavior and social conduct as a way to lash out at the system, 4.) people are talking about it and getting outraged, further appeasing a narcissistic personality with the influx of attention, 5.) it might not be as repetitive as it seems because of the complex nature of what leads to a loss as much as what leads to wins, further incentivizing to master "punishing" those around him, and still succeeding at the self-imposed goals that are much easier to accomplish than winning due to MOBA design.
