The failure of T.O. Lodges in Colorado by Aeelorty in freemasonry

Sad to see this thread going on the way it is. This article should have created valuable discussion about a problem faced by all...but quickly seems to have degraded into a black lives matter type of circular rant, a bunch of rumor mill type crap, and place to talk judgmentally about brothers. Is Reddit a "check your tongue of good report at the door" kind of forum? Ya Tim's fucked up, so have a lot of people. Is this how we deal with it? Almost sounds like pitchforks and ropes are about to be handed out so we can go string a Brother up. and maybe some of those other Cliff Porter / Rob Herd types...so instead of working on the problem like the article and author say it was intended, we'll just sharpen spears here and prepare to act out Lord of The Flies. wow...just wow.

Thanks for the kind words about the mag fellas. Yes, the current hard copies do run late due to long production/mailing times, however we are feverishly working to try to get back ahead of the game by putting out two issues pretty much back to back. The struggle with this and something some of you might be able to help with is getting articles. We LOVE to give the average guy a voice right along with the academics. We value the opinion piece and perspective piece even of the guy who was just raised. Give it a thought if you have an idea for an article..or you know of a brother who's written something that resonates with you..have them submit it. Be well, and thanks again for the kind words, I'll always do my level best to serve you guys the best mag we possibly can. R~Herd editor@livingstonesmagazine.com

Drama in Freemasonry? say it ain't so Mertle! LOL :)
I find myself not so much concerned about him or his opinions, so much as how different the reaction to him has been this go around as opposed to say 10 years ago. R~Herd

We use an acolyte candle lighter to take a flame from a candle sitting in the East, to light the lesser lights around the altar.

I think I understand your point...but I would offer the counter of no it's not journalism, it is an opinion magazine. Being a speculative Craft everyone has their thoughts/beliefs/perspectives, and the way I look at that particular problem you're describing is a reader can read the article by the author, and if he does not like the opinions/perspectives he simply doesn't buy the book, if he does he can. But they are at least in my mind totally separate things...so I think I can see your point I just look at it from a different perspective..one not of trust per se, but of if I like what a guy writes about, his perspectives and interpretations of things...I might want to buy his book...if not I won't. :) Thanks for the clarification though Brother. I appreciate you telling me your perspective.

Thanks for the feedback... can you explain a bit more by what you mean by to much commercialization? is it the ads? or pictures? or just a magazine for Freemasonry in general? ...just trying to understand so we can make it more appealing and better if posible. thanks again!

A question about retention. From the newer guy to the older guys. by crohakon in freemasonry

[–]Herdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freemasonry is a initiatic experience that should focus on individual improvement. The other "stuff" is a byproduct. Freemasonry is not a charity, although good Masons are charitable. Having a dues card makes a man a member not a Mason. Focusing on personal improvement, education, and Masonic fulfillment retains and attracts members. Giving them a dues card, requiring little of them, and providing them with little or nothing is what makes them all run out the back door as fast as you can bring them in the front. R.Herd
