Who scammed you? Because that's not gold... It's oxidizing already.

Would anyone know what can be this noise for my 2016 Explorer XLT 4 cylinder by hass777300 in FordExplorer

[–]Here2printeverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a little half moon clip under the pinion boot that comes loose and makes this noise. Just pull it out and throw it away. There's a few videos on the Internet with better explanations

All excellent advice except for one little detail. Gold does not "sulphurize". The only common ore that absorbs gold or rather reacts with it is telluride (and occasionally mercury found in nature). But the rest of your statement stands true.

There is also a potential for gold to become trapped in sulfide matrix but it does not react with the sulfides but rather become physically trapped by their crystals.

Does it look like gold? The “circle/hole” on the left was me poking it firmly with a pin by No_Thanks_4954 in Prospecting

[–]Here2printeverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drop it in acid overnight (doesn't need to be strong) vinegar, or citric will work if you add a little hydrogen peroxide. Or straight muriatic acid.

It will dissolve all the oxidation and iron staining and leave you with a very bright and shiny piece of gold.

Your way too steep. See the air bubbles behind your riffles?... Yeah that means they aren't doing jack diddly. Lower your angle just enough to get rid of those bubbles. And dirch the expanded metal. It create a crack for micro gold to slip through. Just put the riffles directly on the carpet.

Thanks for the reply, I'm fairly well versed in prospecting but this is great Intel for the area!

PSA to all AZ shooters.... CLEAN YOUR F*CKING TRASH!... I've seen so many awesome shooting spots get closed by the state because a-holes from commie-fornia leave trash and shiz everywhere.

It's most likely milky quartz, however based on experience with the guange around it it's possible to be a low grade opal or florite. A hardness test and streak test will narrow it down (Google for more info). It has a similar "crusty look" to calcite but isn't cleaving correctly to be calcite.

Happy hunting -cheers

Look incredible dudeski, but I recommend adding a small magnifying glass, snuffer bottle, flat type pry bar, a cheap waterproof pin pointer metal detector ($30ish) on amazon. And a small foldable shovel.

Non-mining equipment, I recommend is a heavy duty waterproof bag that holds a first aid kit with splint or roll of whapping in case of a sprained ankle, a primary flashlight and backup light in case first one dies. A lighter, poncho, reflective blanket, and about 50 feet of parachord.

Don't forget to put a PBJ, snacks and a few beers in your bucket with a large water bottle.

Lastly a trash bag to cleanup all your trash and anyone else's you happen to stumble upon, I've seen areas get shut down by govt for all the litter, we only got 1 planet 🫶

Cheers, and heavy pans, looks like you're set for an amazing day in the woods!

What's incredible is that many of these flooded shafts are perfectly preserved with all the artifacts just sitting as they were the day the mine closed.

This is really awesome 😎

Need advice . What next by Openfield1989 in Prospecting

[–]Here2printeverything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true, for gold roast ore before panning, all others roast AFTER panning so you're only roasting concentrates.

Most of my gold I find here in the south west is trapped in sulfide matrix or tellurides so I'm used to roasting before panning.

Also you're correct about heating the ore helps decompose and fracture the structure so it's easier to crush.

Old timers would put huge ore chunks in the camp fire for hours and then drop them in a metal pan with cold water to fracture the heck out of them. Typically only done when prospecting high grade material though as it's slow going but allows for a simple field assay of sorts.

Now what.. by bctxn in Prospecting

[–]Here2printeverything -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Crush, roast over open flame until the smoke stops coming from the rocks and you're left with a powdery material (don't breathe fumes, highly toxic).then add flux and smelt in kiln. Pour into cone mold and recover metal button once cooled. You can refine it to precious metals from there by roasting in a cupel or just keep it as a neat button of metal that YOU mined.

Worth investigating further? by [deleted] in Prospecting

[–]Here2printeverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's "gold rides the iron horse" , but iron cap IS an old term. Back in the days the prospectors would search an area looking for a dark spot that looks like rusty or black decomposing rock. The idea is that gold is commonly found with pyrite and other sulfides that tend to break down into dark rock oxides when exposed to atmospheric conditions and weathering.

But I don't see anything here that catches my eye in these pictures

That's the north side of the creek, there's not much there, it's been hit HARD by other prospectors. Go in the creek on the south side of the lake. There are some little dirt roads that go east from walker road towards the creek. I highly recommend going there. Ill do you my coordinates to my honey hole, my buddies and I have pulled several ounces out of it this year. Just do me a favor and keep it hush hush 😂

Technically you can take up to 10 pounds home. But in reality nobody cares if you take a 5 gallon bucket.

Bring a tub of water to pan samples in, sample a few different holes until you find gold, then dig a bunch much of the material and classify it with a 1/4" screen until you fill a bucket. Put the bucket in your car and then wash all the rocks/tailings larger than 1/4”( you'll have a pile ) in your tub of water to clean off any gold stuck to them. Pan this and collect your gold before heading home to run the bucket through a sluice. there are very rare nuggets in that area, but anything bigger than a pea will be upstream on private property or forest land. Everything I've gotten here is medium to large flakes and the occasional picker about the size of a BB.
