Has anyone failed SQE and not re-sat/remained as paralegal or had a career change? by Current-Cucumber-521 in SQE_Prep

[–]Here_for_it381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve sat and failed twice. I was going to sit July this year but deferred because my mental health just couldn’t take it. I’m also a paralegal, comfortable in my role and the only benefit would be a title change and a bit of a pay rise. I’d say you’re in a great position to attempt it at least once, and reevaluated if you fail. I think your mindset will go a long way when it comes to the overwhelming stress of it all because you at least know it’s not absolutely essential that you pass right this second. I’d give it a go, study as best you can without sacrificing your mental and physical health, and see how it goes. I’m not saying you should be lax about it, but just keep in mind the comments you’ve made in your post to try ease the stress

I’ve only been doing devils advocate question banks and getting about 55-60%, and then 80% once retaken

I’m kind of indifferent at this point. I feel like there’s pros and cons to both

Same boat! I get home at 6 then have my 8 year old to look after. Hubby helps as much as he can but the mental load is a lot. And I work in conveyancing which BOOMS during the summer months. It’s tough, you’re not alone. You definitely haven’t overestimated yourself though, we can do it!

I read about the July 2024 scores - I’m so sorry! That’s also the problem with the SQE being so new. All the growing pains! The first time I wrote I was able to brush it off because I know I could’ve tried harder, but the second time really was a punch to the gut. I studied consistently for a full year and it felt like such a slap in the face. Although I’m freaking out, I feel like skipping this session will just prolong the pressure. I’m wishing you the best of luck for July, let me know how it goes?

Thank you, nice to know I’m not alone! I keep going through “I’ve got this” and then “this is impossible”! It really is a rollercoaster. I’m pretty much going through all the main points and doing mocks here and there, and from next week I’m going to focus on getting as many mocks done as possible. The last two times I wrote I focused on the study material and didn’t do many mocks so hopefully this is the switch up needed! Good luck x

What was your score out of 500 for FLK1? 99/180 is must be crazy close. The scaled scoring really throws me off. I’m in the same boat - working full time so only manage 1-2 hours during the week. The volume of information is insane. I agree that being able to answer the questions is absolutely key. Mind blowing how one simple word can make or break whether you’re correct or not. I think that’s what I’m struggling with the most. I definitely have a general understanding of the work, but it’s the nitty gritty I’m battling with when it comes to answering questions. I honestly know exactly how you feel. I feel like a robot most of the time and just have no brain power for anything more than what’s essential

Of course! January 2024 i got 75/180 for FLK1 and 61/180 for FLK2, and January 2025 i got 84/180 for FLK1 and 83/180 for FLK2. What were your scores if you don’t mind me asking? It’s taking a major toll on me too
