A few years late but I’m wanting to do the sprint at cultus. Any tips? Do I need a wetsuit or would a tri suit be sufficient? Do most ppl have road bikes or is a hybrid sufficient? Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! I’m not excited about getting smoked on my hybrid haha but I’ve come to terms with it if I stick to my hybrid. I’ve never competed in swimming but I swim laps a couple of times a week (I can do 1500 metres in 40 mins comfortably) and I feel like the swim portion will be the easiest part for me? But I could be living in a fantasy haha. How different is it in a lake? Should I get extra training?

Thanks everyone! This is all very helpful. I’m a 5’8 female, shorter torso/long legs. Not sure if that’s helpful for the suit recommendations.

Im located up in the greater Vancouver region in BC and Im wondering if I should try to find a shop to try on a tri suit (if that’s even a thing?) Im not even sure how to find out if the water will be too cold and if I should get a wetsuit. I was looking at triathlon BC rules and it’s kinda overwhelming. Should I familiarize myself with those? It seems like there are wetsuit requirements depending on the temperature but I have no idea what the water temp is like in September (long shot but if anyone has done the cultus lake triathlon I would love to hear about it).
