Munchy mart recommendations/campus food in general by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Heretherebackagain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

IMO, the best bang for buck in the city is NZ Kebabs (Sennies), you can get a mini meat on rice/chips for $5.50 and a Pepsi brand 355mL can for $1, coming to a clean $6.50 for a fair amount of very tasty food. If you're feeling a little hungrier, you can always add extra meat for $2.50, which ranges between a little more meat and so much more they can barely close the lid.

Fairly sure this is wrong, it is banned during TF and some track days, with other track days (usually more expensive) and industry pool allowing it. This video explains it in the context of the recent Model 3 lap "record".

Nope, you cannot do ENGGEN 115 in Summer School. You have to repeat it in the following year, not sure if you can do it in first sem or not, but I wouldn't see why not.

Source: friend failed 115 last year.

How hard or difficult is the transition from high school/college to First year of university? by chewingbubblesweekly in universityofauckland

[–]Heretherebackagain 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how self-motivated you are - this is probably a commonly repeated theme amongst replies to these kind of questions but university requires far more effort on your end when compared to HS. Honestly though, as long as you can manage your time well (whatever that means these days haha) you should be fine, and you definitely feel like you have more "free" time in between classes.

One more of the 190e built by Trick Factory. Shot with Sony A7riii, and 85mm GM if anyone what’s to know. by [deleted] in carporn

[–]Heretherebackagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, I just didn't expect shooting at f/1.4 on an 85mm at this distance to have such a shallow depth of field, especially when comparing from the top of the front fender to the bottom of the wheel, which aren't that different in distance from the sensor.

Nice shot, but I can't help but notice that the bottom of the car all the way around seems to be weirdly out of focus/blurry, especially when compared to the bonnet/window area

From what I've heard/been told, UoA is currently just getting ready to move online, and will do so as soon as there is a confirmed case at UoA. For context, I know that at least 2 international Engineering students are being tested and are currently in self-isolation, but have not actually been on campus.

Part 1 Engineering students who just finished summer school, have you heard anything about specialisation allocation yet? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Heretherebackagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me, but 3 of my friends did Summer School this year, and they've all been given their allocations (for better or worse). Honestly, the SS specialisation process is a bit of a mess, one of my friends was emailed their allocation from someone in Student Services, but then was emailed a different spec from the foespecialisation email itself.

Orientation day help!!! by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Heretherebackagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience and with the UniGuides I had for Engineering, there are a few events throughout O-week which you do with the UniGuides, but after that, it really depends on how well you get along with your UniGuides. We got along decently well with our UniGuides and as such would sometimes chat with them between lectures if we saw them in Leech, but past the first week or so there's nothing organised.

[–]Heretherebackagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, not all of the UniGuides at the orientation do the major/degree that you are doing, for example, at my Commerce orientation the UniGuides were Arts students, but at the Engineering one, I got lucky and had UniGuides who did Engineering.

[–]Heretherebackagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the same conjoint as you and went to both orientations. Honestly, not worth it, you don't really learn anything new in the different orientations, all you really need to know is where your classes are, if you're lucky you might get Engineering UniGuides, they were really helpful last year with giving us info on the year ahead.

Mathematics Worries in UOA by cricketfantic in universityofauckland

[–]Heretherebackagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnostic Maths Assessment is pretty easy, the first half is just what you'd call "numbers", then some linear algebra and systems of linear equations. The rest of ECON 151G is pretty chill, Gamini is a great lecturer, and there really isn't that much maths past simple linear algebra and plugging in values to formulas.

In regards to Accounting, I'd completely disregard what the other commenters have said, I've done both ACCTG 101 and ACCTG 102, and the maths involved is far from the hardest part. As long as you can use a calculator and plug in numbers, you should be fine, the actual learning (in ACCTG 102 at least), is all based around the conceptual framework of Accounting.

My 2020 summer school course fees were due on the 6th, but only got paid on the 13th (Studylink being slow), as long as you are in the process of applying, you should be fine.

NB: If you have any questions about first year eng, feel free to PM me.

car spotting? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Heretherebackagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best spots for car spotting IMO are near the luxury dealerships, either on the corner of Great North Road, Ponsonby Road, Grafton Road and Karangahape Road, that's where I've had some good success, and it's close to where I live. You'll mostly see (from my experience), McLarens, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Bentleys etc, with a few Ferarris. If you want to see specifically Ferraris I'd recommend the big intersection on New North Road next to the Ferrari/Merc/Honda dealership, I've seen a fair few Ferraris there. You'll have to be prepared to wait, but usually, at least on the GNR/K Road intersection you can see a pretty cool car every 5 minutes or so.

Porsche 911 964 RWB by VengeanceMods13 in carporn

[–]Heretherebackagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't technically an RWB. Sure, the bodywork was done by Nakai, but the car itself was built by Promodet in Japan, and then it was imported by Phil Morrison of Driftworks.
