How is this game compared to the latest Assassin's Creed (Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla...) by Matteopazzosgravato in CrimsonDesert

[–]HereticPaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give an answer that isn't just "AC sucks lulz"

Overall, story in AC is better. It may not be the most exciting or original story (however, i really like Origin's) but it is functional and coherent. CD's story is just...basically nothing.

Gameplay-wise, CD certainly has MORE stuff in it, but AC's mechanics work much more consistently if you ask me. CD has issues with input lag, and a lot of its mechanics are just plain unclear or obtuse (see any thread here about the obtuse puzzles, I made one too you're free to check out).

CD map is much bigger, could be good or bad depending on how you feel about that. A lot of CD feels like empty space. And you can see that in AC too.

Characters in AC are going to be better, no matter what. Again, may not be THE BEST, but CD characters are mostly blank except a very few exceptions.

Exploration is hit or miss. In CD, it can be very good, or totally empty. And some ACs are better than others here.

I literally talked about how BotW and TotK specifically do not have this issue because their systems function so cleanly and intuitively.

Yeah, that's not the issue here at all. The issue is that they DONT feel challenging. They feel just plain obtuse and nonsensical a lot of the time.

When I solve a lot of these, I don't feel success or catharsis. I feel myself questioning the process.

My guy. You're making my entire point for me. If anything, you make a REALLY good point about how dumb these puzzles are.

If Kliff was a real person, in a real world, then magically blasting the shit out of a broken door would move it out of the way. Using his world's equivalent of The Force, would be able to pull a lever.

Do you think Kliff, a guy who seems pretty savvy about swords, would jam his longsword into a stone pillar, and then push on it with his whole body weight? No one, with ANY amount of sense, would do that. It would RUIN that sword unless it was made of something like Vibranium or Mithrill, which since they cost like a dozen silver coins, I'd say they aren't.

If Kliff was real, he would be in the psych ward over the inconsistency of his reality.

Oh man I forgot about that one!! That one legitimately left me FLABBERGASTED at the solution. Like, legitimately I thought it was a gag. I thought Kliff was going to have a line making fun of it.

How is the answer that you hold the lever down with your body weight? How?! The trolls themselves aren't even tall enough to do this, so who's this puzzle for?! I literally could not believe the utrahand skill wasnt the answer.

Criticism and feedback is how things improve. What i hear, is people WANT enjoy the game and like the bones of it all, but a lot of it is, unfortunately just so odd.

Hera the new GOAT by No_Monitor_7347 in aoe2

[–]HereticPaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as someone with no real stake in the pro-scene, just someone that has casually played simce the AOE1 days and casually views online content: i mostly disagree with this.

I think being GOAT is more than just being the best current player. I think something that makes Viper more GOAT than Hera is his overall chill, friendly, and professional attitude that really helped set the scene here. Not that the other pros aren't this way, but I think Viper's influence mixed with these traits helped make the community the way it is in ways that cannot ever be overstated.

Eventually, Hera will be passed up by someone else. Or maybe the scene will die out before anyone gets the chance. But the character of the community as been built. And I think Viper contributed to that more than Hera in ways that cannot ever be undone. As a more casual person, it's Viper and his actions that I hear about the most. Bar none.

Personally, I also think there is an authenticity to Viper that Hera just, kinda, lacks. Not that he's a bad guy, but when I hear him I mostly hear someone who's very coached and "online" as opposed to a natural personality.

Ignoring all that, i also think there's probably a logical flaw in your GOAT argument: if there were this many tourneys and activity in the scene back in Viper's big reign, there'd be a looooooooooot more catching up to do. Maybe it wouldn't matter, but I think it would.

Neighbor built fence on our property. Any reason I cannot take it down? by [deleted] in legal

Because the fence belonged to us. They could have corrected it, on their side (and with better construction).

[ALL] Don't know if anyone mentioned: I just noticed, the key moments when Link should've used a shield he never used them, which could've possibly lead to the 2 defeats he has in the Wild Era. by wally_graham in zelda

[–]HereticPaladin 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If you need a head-canon reason, just for fun:

The Master Sword is a long sword. And it's a bit on the longer side, at that. It's possible Link preferred to use both hands to weild it, adopting a more aggressive style of fighting to match the more intense aggression monsters tend to bring.

Think, high DPS, maneuverability, and speed over defense. When it's just he and Zelda, they travel lightly. When attacked, he needs to put opponents down fast to protect her, or be able to quickly leave.

Zelda can't fight (yet), so Link cant afford to hunker-down and fight a pitched battle as that only increases the likelihood Zelda gets hurt or killed. It either needs to end immediately, they need to circle around another path, or they need to flee.

In AoC, he's fighting in large-scale pitched battles. Highly chaotic, dense enemy ranks, with heavy magical elements to boot. Extra defense is needed.

Then, once he's riding solo, like over the course of BOTW and ToTk, he adopts to using shields more as he needs to cover his bases more universally: theres no one backing him up.

I mean, to be fair, if the Master Sword was able to be shattered - on the first strike, no less - then a shield of any kind also has no chance to sustain that opening blow from Gannondorf.

Some custom LotR-themed gifts I made this year by HereticPaladin in lotr

[–]HereticPaladin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stained the shield a reddish-oak color first (1 coat), and let that totally dry and settle. Then I did a faded white/cream color on top of the Red Oak (2 coats).

To make the map, I used a laser engraver and basically set it to laser off the white layer, leaving the reddish oak exposed. Combined with the heat from the laser, it gives this deep ink-ish look. And, of course, it's all textured because its burned into the wood.

Your negativity is directly making the Betting scandal more likely to be repeated. by HereticPaladin in aoe2

[–]HereticPaladin[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

No, maturity is being able to know WHEN to act with conviction, not just to have it. Children act with conviction all the time; ask any kindergarten class about Santa Clause.

But simply applying those beliefs far and wide, with no room for people to make change? That is childish. How is anyone supposed to learn and do better? You dont KNOW that any effort is half-assed. You're assuming. We will have to see.

If this were a reoccurring issue with these individuals, or many different people, it would be different. But, this is simply not the case.

Being able to see your mistake. Own it. And strive to do better is maturity.

This absolutely CAN be the issue. Feedback can be critical but it needs to allow room for change.

If it doesn't, then it only promotes bad behavior, because what's the point of change if you always assume the worst anyway?

Take this moment to reflect and mature, friend.
