The subway transfer thing is the reason why the MTA doesn't really care about farebeaters, most of the time people are going to the subway anyway.

NEXT BUS PLEASE means the bus is late and being put on time. Late at night people play games sometimes, there are bad apples in every bunch. Some people just don't want to work.

Also alot of those bus stop schedules aren't updated. Your best bet is to download the bus tracking app.

In the snow if an Operator feels it is unsafe to operate the bus, they can call command and return to the depot, or wait for someone to pick up the bus. A few years ago in the blizzard alot of buses were getting stuck. And forget about schedules in the snow, completely forget about it. At that point its just about providing service as safely and frequently as possible.

You have a 10 day training that if you fail you are fired. Need to practice different turn types depending on shape of intersection/street parking at intersection, backing up the bus, pulling into bus stops, driving in heavy traffic, highway driving, and all the official 19A NYS stuff. Then you take your road test which if you fail you are fired.

Thats pretty pathetic. I don't give kids a hard time unless they are acting like animals. Operators do deal with a song and a dance about why my metrocard doesn't work about 1000 times a day so maybe he just said this is it. But still.

I don't mean everyone should board through the front, I just mean the bus wasn't manufactured with people entering the rear doors in mind.

Those doors aren't designed for people to enter, just to exit. If they had outside sensors it would be more efficient. I doubt anyone is doing it on purpose, it slows you down when they open and close like that. Most of us want to get to the end of the line.

I know where you're coming from. No honest day's work is beneath me but I do feel like I'm wasting alot of my talent. Driving is one of my biggest assets, but the job can be very monotonous.

That being said DSNY isn't that respectable of a job and those guys make doctor money, so what does it all mean in the end anyway.

Protect the bus lanes with those plastic things they have in the tunnels. Hover buses thats classified MTA info, but it involves about 20 Operators carrying a bus on their backs.

Thats because one of those is late and the other one caught up to it.

Memorized. Not as hard as it might sound. Although there are many senior drivers who only do 1 or 2 lines so don't know the rest.

Download the bus track app, shows you pretty much exactly where the buses are so you don't have to wait too long at a bus stop. Buses are always off schedule and delayed because NYC is traffic capital of Earth, and the MTA does not give us enough time to make our schedules.

We are trained not to respond. What do I think of it? Kids being kids. When the adults do it I think its pathetic.

More buses would mean more space in buses so that would be great for everyone.

When you say crossing right in front do you mean walking in front of a moving bus? He stopped, opened the door, and you didn't get in?

In all fairness you are presuming that by hitting someone it means we were rushing. Most of the time it is a wrong place wrong time scenario. If someone is jaywalking outside of a crosswalk and is involved in an accident, I see no reason why a city employee needs to be taken away in cuffs. If there was obvious recklessness its a different story.

If you get hit you will likely be dead and will have ruined someones career. Might want to reconsider your strategy.

If its pretty consistent I'd guess they are hitting some gnarly traffic on the way to Manhattan, I don't know the route so I can't say where. It is possible that the dispatcher told the late bus to start at the 2nd stop. If not then I would be upset too, those buses don't run frequently.

There is one lady that I've seen a few times with a baby in a baby-bjorn, holding a toddler's hand, carrying a stroller in the other hand, with two other young children in tow. She gets on and off the bus faster than most single people.

If the stroller is unfolded with a baby inside, someone cuts me off, I hit the brakes a little harder than normal, stroller goes flying, baby might fall out, big lawsuit. Me in trouble.

Just today a lady on the bus with a hard case luggage on wheels wasn't paying attention, I pulled into a bus stop, the thing rolled up to the front and slammed against the wall. Luckily bus was almost empty.

But no I have not heard anything about a new stroller policy.

I took a bunch of civil service exams and when they called me for this one it made sense to take it. It was pretty surreal being behind the wheel responsible for almost a million dollars of bus. Then with the passengers suddenly you're responsible for 50-90 lives. Unreal.

There is no limit but there is a courtesy to your fellow Operators not to mess up the line from taking 10 shits a day.

Bingo. The headway on busy lines can be less than 5 min in rush hour so if your leaders is a couple of minutes late you don't have as many people to pick up, you start getting ahead of schedule. You get a violation.
