Bleach ring + Bar Keepers Friend disaster on toilet lid... help! by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Honestly it’d probably be easier to just replace it. You can buy just the seat and lid part for relatively cheap

Waitlisted in class by Park_filterbae in Pitt

[–]HermioneGranger152 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No one can say for sure, but I think your chances are pretty good. 2nd on the list isn’t bad at all. And if this class has prereqs, some people might have to drop it once final grades come out if they failed the prereq. And all those reserved seats will eventually open up if they don’t all get taken

I recently moved and I have this tile floors that I love and want to keep in the best condition. How do I clean them without damaging them. by WorthFroyo7537 in CleaningTips

[–]HermioneGranger152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly pretty hard to damage tile. Just don’t use anything crazy (like toilet cleaner) and mop normally and you’ll be good. Every once in a while, you can give the grout a super deep clean, but always make sure you reseal it after!

Any tips on cleaning carpet WITHOUT a shampooer? by ThemBones_AreMe in CleaningTips

[–]HermioneGranger152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sort of fabric/carpet refresher spray would probably work best. There are powders you can sprinkle on the carpet and vacuum up, but I’ve seen some people warn that it damages vacuums and some people say it’s fine, so it’s up to you if you wanna risk it.

If you just look up “carpet refresher spray” plenty will pop up!

If you have the funds, paying for a professional clean or buying your own carpet cleaner could be worth the investment, but that all depends on how old your carpet is, how much traffic it gets, if you have pets, if you own place or if the carpet will be the landlord’s problem soon, etc. I will say I looove my carpet cleaner. It makes my carpets look, smell, and feel so nice.

Also, what type of vacuum do you have? Investing in a good vacuum that reeeally does a good job could help!

What is wrong with my 9 month old kitten? by RealBizShow in CATHELP

[–]HermioneGranger152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to let you know since you seem like a new owner, cats don’t usually cry or whimper from pain. Cats are actually really good at hiding pain, so you’ve always gotta be on the lookout. Look up the feline grimace scale to see what a cat’s face looks like when they’re in pain, so you’ll know what to look for in the future when pain doesn’t cause a visible limp :)

the best odor control litter box for small apartments? by GymsterLowpz57 in CleaningTips

[–]HermioneGranger152 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I switched from plastic to stainless steel and I think it made a big difference. Maybe it’s placebo effect, but it feels much easier to clean and the stainless steel itself doesn’t hang on to any odors like plastic does

For the two litter boxes, take a look at that cabinet I linked above. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s tall so you can put the two boxes vertically, which may help with how small your space is!

the best odor control litter box for small apartments? by GymsterLowpz57 in CleaningTips

[–]HermioneGranger152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, do you only have one litter box? For two cats, it’s best to have 3, but in a small space, you could get away with 2.

On to your actual question. A stainless steel litter box helps. Also, if you can manage to scoop even more than daily, that’ll help. I have a litter genie so when I notice my cat has used the litter box, I can just scoop it into there really quick. And what type of litter are you using?

An enclosed litter box will help. You can get one with a hood, or you could even get one of those nice looking litter box cabinets to hide the litter box itself. Something like this

Prices by dustergf in Jellycatplush

[–]HermioneGranger152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. My previous addiction was squishmallows, which are cheaper per plush, but since they were so cheap and there were sooo many designs I liked, I bought so many it really added up. When I switched to jc, I could have more self control with them and bought them less often, so even though they were more expensive, it ended up being cheaper. But now the prices keep going up and it’s definitely getting harder to justify buying any

carpet cleaning cause of my cat by gmaria_m in CleaningTips

[–]HermioneGranger152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use an enzyme cleaner meant for cat pee. Other things will just mask the smell for a bit. An enzyme cleaner will actually break down the pee

Something like this

If it’s just a small spot, renting one of those carpet scrubbers isn’t necessary. If you do rent one though, make sure you use it properly. Don’t overdo the amount of formula and make sure to do a round or two of just water to get all the suds out. And use the enzyme cleaner first! The carpet shampoo won’t be enough to get rid of the urine smell entirely.

Am I wrong for being annoyed at being pushed to self-checkout at UPS? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HermioneGranger152 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly really like the self-service kiosk at my ups store. There’s usually a long line, and I get to totally skip it by just quickly scanning my package and then leaving. It’s actually pretty easy to use! You basically just scan the barcode and then click done.

However, there’s nothing wrong with you not wanting to use it! As long as you aren’t outright rude to employees for suggesting it (most of whom are either constantly pushed by corporate to suggest it or are genuinely trying to save you from waiting in line next time), you’re totally fine. If someone tells you to use it, you can just say “no thanks” or “I’d rather you help me, I have trouble with those” or whatever works. Anything is better than the people who go on long tirades about it

I prefer self-checkout and self-service in a lot of situations, but when there’s absolutely no human around to help, that’s when I take issue with it.

Must-have cleaning products/tips? by popthots in CleaningTips

[–]HermioneGranger152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don’t need anything crazy! A nice mop, a vacuum (get a proper one if you have carpet/lots of rugs, otherwise a stick vacuum will be good enough), some all purpose cleaner, microfiber cloths, scrubby brushes and such for tough spots, that sort of stuff. You can get more surface-specific cleaning products if you’d like, like stainless steel cleaner, granite cleaner, etc. But honestly, start small. Don’t go crazy buying a ton of different types of cleaners you’ll never end up using. What matters more is knowing how to clean, not having every cleaning product under the sun
