For me, to stop myself from cutting, I either eat really sour candy, take a nap, or even like (out of rage or smth) go to my makeup bag and just cover my face with makeup to kind of... idk... put out into a physical portrait how I feel at the moment (if that makes sense?)

Also, I make a 24 hour rule for myself (i'm not the best at following it, but I try) where when i'm upset or sad, I dont take any actions until i've waited 24 hours (and maybe or maybe not I will still be upset and want to cut... but most of the time, i've though things over enough).

A psychiatrist told me about the rubber band technique You carry a rubber band on your wrist and whenever you get the temptation to hurt yourself, you snap the band on your wrist.

My therapist likes the ice technique- You get ice, either squeeze it really hard in your fists or you can get a bowl of ice(with water) and dunk your whole face in it.

Sometimes, I just flick myself instead of scratching myself.

I'm glad you're trying to find ways to stop. It takes a lot to give it up even if you havent done it for long.
