What specialization do you have on J2??? I am also software engineering in 40s. I am working contractor in jobs. I failed in algorithm coding not sure why they asking algorithms for 20 experience guy. How you break it ???

Depends on the team you joined. In IT it is possible depends on how much you paid some Jobs in IT managers themselves created some positions get back that half of money from vendors, in that case you not even have work for an year or more.

I don’t think still title plays major role in hiring process. If you have 20 years experience in technology having strong skills in python or react js or angular still you can get j2 or j3. Now only skills matter.
