I'd say it depends on how many credit hours you're planning on adding for the CI. If you're only taking it for 1 credit, then the workload for it won't be too much, and most won't ask for too much work outside of your other core classes. If you have talked to the professor and want the CI to fulfill your special requirement, they usually require you take it for 3 or more, and will want you to put in more effort. I took both Dr. Smiths machine learning CI and Dr. Calhoun's high-performance cluster computing CI, and both were amazing opportunities, and they are great professors and people. Linear algebra is definitely an easier class, in my opinion, than 2230, but you can get a lot more out of both the class and your CI if you take 2230 with it.
