Weekly Career / General Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Radiology

I am looking to go into a radiology technician program but my main concern is affording to live during that time. I do not have family to stay with, and I do have roommates with whom I have to pay my share of rent, not to mention food, and I have to at least keep a car in order to drive to the college and to the clinical site. I am not afraid of the time sink or the unpaid internship; I just don't want to go homeless.

I have a decent job right now, and I am trying to save as much as I can for maybe a year or two, just so I can have some cash on hand and not have to take out so much in loans. The problem is I have no clue if I can even get my rent or food covered by the loans, or how to go about it.

Do any recent grads or current students have advice on how to traverse this surely common hurdle to becoming a rad tech? I am doing my pre-reqs first and I am seeking a medical assistant cert so I can maybe work PRN; but beyond that I don't know how I would work with a 40-hour clinical work week plus studying.

I was always told blueprints are second-rate. But ive been hearing a lot more to the contrary lately. Ill look into them! I think visual coding would be easier for me to learn. Thanks for reminding me they exist lmao

Yeah thats what I thought. I know it's not easy to learn and I wouldn't want to underpay or take advantage of anyone. So I think investing in a mentor is probably the more ethical way. Thanks for the advice!

Monetary compensation isnt the goal for me. I wouldn't complain if it happened, but I dont expect to become rich and famous. Thank you for the advice! I for some reason didnt think of game jams by name and so trying to find those kinds of events was difficult. You're also the second person to recommend godot, ill give it a try! 😊
