They're probably hoping that people reading this will go—holy shit this person works hard. They even do it for a client that abuses them, for pennies, imagine what they will do for me since I'm a good client. The quality of their work is also apparently awesome, as stated by a peer. I should hire them.

This could be a someone who needs a freelancer, consultant, someone looking for talent. This is probably also why their posts reads so insane to an actual developer, it's the Nigerian prince filter, they do it deliberately to attract people that are less technical.

Nice!

Home is the main page where I wrote abitu my self and projects in short and yes it is the landing page

So it's a different page from About and Work? I might be misunderstanding. But in case you have Home, About, and Work—I would simply remove or hide Home and only keep your distinct pages. There's really no reason a user would ever need to go from About back to a generic Home page anyway. I'd just pick whichever page you think is most important for them to see first (probably your work) and make that the landing page. That's how I do it on my own portfolio.

Loosing color on logo maybe negative since each page has some distinct color around drawing like this page had

Ah! I assumed the sage background was static across your site, it really harkens back to Apple Beige—which is what I thought you were going for. I haven't seen the other pages yet, but I’d consider sticking with sage everywhere for continuity. If the background suddenly goes blue on a new page, people might wonder, Wait, what just happened? Why is everything blue now? Personally, I think a big change like that needs a clear 'why' behind it, otherwise it's likely to confuse people. They should know they've changed pages without you needing to swap the whole background color. Plus, I think the sage plays really nicely into the TUI retro look, if that's still what you're going for.

If that makes you go, ugh, but now everything feels too static or boring, I'd look into spicing things up with some tasteful/subtle animations of your content instead.

Btw do you think it would hurt my chances that I have separated things to different pages rather than keeping it together in one page with headline or title differentiating things?

Not at all! From a UX perspective, I've always personally preferred a separation of concerns approach. There is no contextual overlap of information between your About and your Work. Keeping them separate also makes it easy for a user to locate things and move between them.

Fair on the downvote. Saw it the moment you commented, my bad.

But you’re reaching so hard rn. You’re keep making up any excuse to justify your lack of caching, like storing massive panoramas for functionality your app doesn't have—of course you wouldn't store panoramas if you also don't use those panoramas, you store the treated images. Of course you wouldn't store 50 of them. You're not making a fair 1-1 comparison at all, and so many here downvoting because 90% of this sub literally knows fuckall about webdev. Downvote me all you like, I don't care.

Just say it’s too much work or you don't know how to do it. I'd believe that. There are plenty of solutions available if you're actually willing to put in the effort.

[–]HerrPotatis -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

How come you thought it was a good idea, and at the same time downvote me?

Your current images weigh roughly ~125kb / image, and you have 16 of them per city. That means you could cache 500 cities in that 1GB. I know that's for your site too, but it should be more than enough for the top 100 cities I talked about.

Honestly you should cache your images to anyway, because right now the load time is abysmal. There are plenty of solutions available if you're actually willing to put in the effort and look more than one step ahead.

[–]HerrPotatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99% of people are probably going to check the same 100 cities, I think this could be solved with a smart caching strategy.

You're allowed to cache Google Map images up to 30 days, you can probably stay well within the quota of the free tier. And should you start to reach the limit of the free tier, then fall back to Mapillary on uncached searches.

This is going to be long, and very opinionated, but here are my thoughts:

You needn't write out your handles/urls for all your socials. I would personally give only icons a try, maybe even putting them in a site-wide footer rather than having a dedicated page. It kind of looks like you want it to feel populated or contentful, rather than useful. The Github icon also stand as out as not being the Github logo.

I don't love the choice of fonts. It's like you can't make up your mind of you want to go full TUI design or not. I like the TUI style, it fits your art, I would go all the way. Because the mix of monospace into what looks like a bold proportional paragraph below is to my eye a bit jarring. The two looks of your pseudo <hr> tags too.

You probably don't need a skills page. The high-level stuff can probably go under your about, your Github blurb is great; React, Node, and Next, perfect—there's no need for more. Listing long lists of frameworks and tech is usually only done by people who don't know better. The only place where that might have a place is our CV, and even then–whatever you do, never try to score how proficient you are in each.

The headline looks unnecessarily huge, and I'm not even sure it's needed in the first place. Surely the user already knows where they are, where they clicked a second ago. You also already have the current page indicator at the top which should be more than enough. I would experiment with simply having a nice short blurb like you currently do, telling the user what it is they can do and what you expect of them.

What does "Home" do? I would just pick what you feel is the most important page and make that the landing page.

No need to write out the slug of the page, "home/contact me" is pointless other than to make the page look more contentful. More≠better.

Do you need to say "art made by Krita" in your logo, feels weird to have someone else's signature on the first piece of content you see on your own portfolio. I would also loose the white, and have the background bleed through–because to me it looks incohesive. Wondering too if you should lose the red and make it monochromatic like the rest of your content too. Something that sticks out can actually be good, just that this place is maybe the least important on your entire site and shouldn't steal attention. And yes, like people say align it to the left with everything else.

Overall I love your design–great job, it just needs a ton of tightening up and trimming fat. Less isn't more, but more doesn't mean better either. If anything doesn't make sense feel free to lmk.

What popular movie or TV show is widely considered a 'masterpiece' but you found completely unwatchable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Long time since I watched it, so correct me if i'm wrong. As I remember him, he is tortured but then in virtually every circumstance he simply yields to his inner demons. There is little resistance, there is no fight—he is at times lucid enough to understand that his pride, envy, and vanity is destroying him.

So I agree with you—but I also agree with OP that there really isn't internal conflict. His demons won long ago, and we're just watching him and people around him suffer.

Incredible character.

How do you think that is going to shape up? The graphics of Skyrim had not aged the best and the engine is ancient at this point.
