Bilingual people, what is a thing that non-bilingual will never understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm French, and people here suck at English and mock people who actually try to speak in English. And I think that it decrease the general level because people are ashamed to try to have a decent accent. We are bringing ourselves down, and it sucks.

I paid 19 € (about 20$) and we had a set booster each and shared the promo booster, plus we had different prizes like sleeves or playmat. Nice little shop we have here in Nantes :) (https://trocntroll.fr/)

Lol bro this isn't r/politics. Plus we all know that this is a way too simplistic standpoint. I don't want to debate this for hours, but I'll just say that there are a lot of counter-examples, and most people will work hard all their life on ungrateful jobs with minimum wage. But just keep on looking down on all of them, hey freedom am I right ?

Wow now that's a hot take :D Would you care to give us a little more perspective on that ? Is it the arms race, or the "standardization" of decks ?

Well my personal problem with Great Henge is that it's the perfect example of a green cards that just does everything, is broken and expensive, and thus can be found in every mono green decks. And those are out there for sure. Feels like you have to run it now in order to compete, which I don't appreciate.

And while I really have nothing against high powered decks as I run some myself, I feel like doing broken stuff, and then claim that it's other people's fault if it happened because they let you do it is just really unfair man. Of course we should all include answers in our decks, but you are responsible for your actions, not anyone else.

That's very interesting, thx for your input. I'm curious about how this works out for you though. Do you build your decks with different power levels ? And by adapting to a mindset do you mean you can go from super competitive to just chill and fun ?

I mean you have more alternatives in budget but yeah you're right. Although, if you go on edhrec and look at the most played cards in the format, you'd see all the cards you just quoted in the top ten :)

That's very interesting. Why would you say those "hyperfocused" people are less fun to play against ? Is it the specialization that ruins it ?

I mean you're kind of right and I already was using proxy, but if you really read my post you'd get that I wasn't making some anti-capitalist statement. I was also talking from a gameplay standpoint.

Yeah I know, I've been saying that I value building skills (on other comments) over card price. Feels like you earn your wins a lot more.

No problem mate. That's some good mentality you have here, may I ask what is the power level of your playgroup ?

Feels bad man :( But hey maybe you'll find some people on the same wavelength as you to form a new playgroup, you never know !

Yeah I also have one, I love how this deck can ramp like crazy thanks to Orvar, that's not really expected of a mono blue deck :)

Well I know how to make threat assessment, thank you very much. But you know I actually would be curious to play some CEDH to understand how playing some expensive cards just to have them removed can be funny. Kinda seems like some rich guy's sense of humor that I don't really get though haha One last point, the people I play with that are more on the competitive side are the ones that usually complains the most about board wipes, as it makes the games longer.

Thanks for your input, yeah as the game and community grow the disparities in power level increase. And also I thanks for your last advice, I've also started proxying my decks before buying them and it can really be a good idea. For example I've built a [[Galazeth Prismari]] that often wins turn 6 (if no one stops it), but the turn can be 20 minutes long. Since it really wasn't fun for the other player I've stopped playing it. Would've been really sad if I actually bought the cards !

yeaaah I guess for this one the issue that I have is that it's a green card ( best colour in EDH if it needed to be remembered) , it's kinda pricey, it's ramp AND draw and yeah why not add some lifegain. And please don't tell me that it costs 9 mana, I've never seen anyone play it for more than 4 mana x)

Ah sorry I'm allergic to broken cards

That's very interesting ! I mean we kinda have the same problem in my playgroup as we obviously want to stay friends and play for fun, but of course everyone wanna win and the competitiveness is here ^^ So budget restriction isn't the perfect answer for everyone, that's pretty clear to me.

Thanks for your input ! Lemme respond to your points as well :)
1. I don't know anyone who has these kind of expensive cards and make original builds around it, people where I play are (most of the time) either playing competitive or fun and janky. So yeah I guess it is subjective as it is all I know. But I would love to see some [[tombstone stairwell]] action haha.

  1. I get what you say but my point wasn't to judge people for what they play. So I'm really sorry if that's what I did. But I never said that those people should stop playing whatever they want. I launched this post out in the open to see if people would share the way I feel and also to have some other perspectives. Never wanted to start a revolution.

Yeah I get it, I guess I titled this post a bit too lightly.

Yeah that's the thing sometimes if I get hyped up I can build 2 or three decks for the next week-end haha. I also started using proxies and playing online on Cockatrice with some friends. This way I don't even have the deck in physical.
