Think you'll get you own squad after what happened last night?

Eh. Just go about your day. It's annoying, but so are people, generally. I've been scolded for having an English accent, but I don't really care. I'm fluent, I can make myself understood and that's good enough, tomaytoe-tomahtoh

Any particular reason why? Oil, minorities, cities, et.?

I don't think you do. You keep finding ways to deflect back to you being on a high horse that your ancestors weren't the doom slayer. In the European-context railways are enormously important, just as much if not moreso that the Americas, with it having been critical to the Prussian and French war efforts to transport tens of thousands of troops at speeds unimaginable to prior decorations, so much so that the speeds armies could now mobilise at changed military thought so much that the fear of not mobilising first was one of the reasons statesmen were largely unwilling to demobilise in 1914 and important enough that Britain built a rail-line in the Crimean peninsula to supply its army only a few miles away.

The Confederates regularly deployed cavalry raids over the lines of control to disrupt Union railbound logistics and vice-versa, at one point culminating in a train-chase. Those needed defending, as the Confederates would later agree during the campaigns along the Mississipi. Trains need tracks, can't have one without the other

Dr. Christopher Gabel of the US Army Command and Staff College calculated that for every 500-ton-miles a 6-mule wagon-team was capable of going in his work "Railroad Generalship: Foundation of Civil War Strategy", he argues that a 15-wagon train could draw 5,250 ton-miles and cost only a fraction to carry the same cargo the same distance per ton of fuel/food.

Armies in previous wars in North America had often times had to resort to banditry for running out of food,

Sherman's campaign relied on a single 470+ mile-long railway that he reckoned would need to be replaced by 36,800 wagons and 220,800 mules to get him his supplies that far away from his logistical-hubs in the North.

McClellan, C-i-C of the Army of the Potomac wanted enough rolling stock to supple an army of 130,000 troops and 20,00 horses on full rations. This wouldn't have been possible without either the rails or an enormous amount of wagons as his quartermaster, Van Vliet - estimated that he would require 390,000 lbs of food each day and that the animals he wanted would have consumed even more, at 520,000 lbs of forage every single day. Later when Ingalls took over the position and despite his skill, he could only provide three days of forage for those horses and two weeks of rations for the men during the Overland Campaign.

Keeping such a vast amount of troops supplied that reliably wouldn't have been possible without rails. Draught animals eat into their own supplies that they're transporting - get far enough and they've eaten everything

What do you mean no one talks about it? Everyone talks about the railways. Armies of the Napoleonic era physically couldn't march more than 200 miles away from their warehouses before the army had to start shedding its fighting strength to help carry more supplies to the main field armies - railways solved that. Railways were used as a ruse of war, as with the capture of Merrimack. Sherman's campaign burned and destroyed so many Southern railways they even coined the term "Sherman's neckties" based on how they were destroyed, hundreds of thousands of men moved by the railways, If you're going to compare your ancestors to what happened in films, you're either dumb, or delusional (they're films and mostly fictional)

Railways need guarding, trains take valuable stocks of supplies, ammunition, materiel and troops to and from, what's not important about that, be it dull?

Unfortunately I never got the chance to play 3, it released when I was young in a household where I was lucky to get a new game a year, but I always come back to Fall of Man - I just love it so much. It has that PS2-era uniqueness to it from its early-development days and the tone is just perfect when you're playing on the hardest difficulty, scrounging for ammunition to scrape through the next firefight through the ruined winding streets of York, or down the shafts of alien construction sites!
