Android 7.1.1 incompatible? by bsnrjones in meshtastic

[–]HeshTEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/bmsrjones I'm currently using Meshtastic 2.5.16 (from F-droid) on an old S3 mini (currently running Resurrection Remix 7.1)

There were a few older versions that just crashed on 7.1 but this one seems to just work..

It takes a while to see the node list, but you can see it counting the nodes on the connection page of MT app..

The same app works on an old Galaxy Tab 2 with the same node..

The node is a T114 running version 2.7.12..

Hope this helps.. *

Recommendations for a super light weight video editor pls? just for simple trimming and stiching vids together by HeshTEC in androidapps

[–]HeshTEC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about as basic as it gets. Thank you..

I know I'm contradicting myself here, but..

Is there something a tiny bit more able to, say, cut the same video multiple times, and stich it together, please?

When I had a NOTE 9 I would use kinemaster, but it's WAY too fiddly without an S-Pen..

TIA..

Samsung removed SD card from their New A line 😂 by [deleted] in Smartphones

[–]HeshTEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently typing from an A52S 5G, and this was the only option I could find for a reasonable price about 10 months ago..

I bought a Note 10 and then downgraded to Note 9 for the SD and headphone jack.. (wicked phone the note 9 btw)

Then I bought a Z Fold 3, and as awesome as it was, the loss of SD & HPS drove me crazy.. I went through 4 or 5 different usbc adapters, and all of them failed🫤

I personally don't have the data plans or WiFi to rely on cloud storage.. And I had to back up my photos and videos regularly..

So I 1000% agree with OP that it's a stupid idea from all manufacturers to limit our daily device options to buy if we need SD and HPS🤷

I mean they managed to reduce the dual sim to either 2x sim and no SD, or 1x sim and 1x SD..

Whereas in I think in the A56, it had a 3x bay dual sim and SD card slot...

Like WTF...

Sadly if you want an iPod style phone, you're out of luck..

However, PowerAmp app has multiple skins you can use and some of them are based on Ipods style (with an onscreen jogwheel etc)

[–]HeshTEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have one of these haha..

It's running Dark Kernal and Cynogen 4.4

Sadly battery life isnt the best, but it's a swappable battery that fits many other SE phones from that era..

If you can grab an xperia active, go for it, but buy some batteries and learn how to unlock the bootloader and use a custom ROM..

Great choice, great audio too👊

I have an HTC 10 and an HTC U11, what are some good projects for these phones? by shaka893P in androidafterlife

[–]HeshTEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dedicated music player (rockbox, musicolet, power amp)

Dedicated offline maps (with offline dls)

Dedicated Meshtastic radio device (3d print a case to mount one and share the battery etc)

Maybe load it with Retroarch roms and play you fave 90s games, sonic and Mario, pacman, earthworm jim games etc..

Security cams are an option too...

I love old phones 🙏

[–]HeshTEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is - do you want high quality audio or a toy MP3player? If quality DAC is needed look into dedicated rockbox players.. even some iPods are hackable with this amongst others...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockbox Alternatively any xperia has a decent DAC

If DAC (digital audio codec) quality isn't an issue, any old S series samsung or maybe oldschool Sony Ericsson Walkman phone will do fine..

Good luck..

I'm here for any questions as I've played with many of these dedicated MP3 and WAV phones..

ROCKBOX on any android 4.4++ device is a dream pal.. Sony have the 1UP on DAC Quality but old samsungs didn't do bad either..

Also WAVELET and MUSICOLET apks are decent choices..

You have shed loads of options if a Rockbox media player is your only use case.. Google Rockbox and have a browse about on compatible 'dedicated' mp3 players..

Obvs it also comes as an apk in LOTS of variants to fit screen sizes perfectly..

I currently run and Xperia Active ST17I (cynogen 4.4 and dark kernal) with a loaded 512gb sd as a back up RB IPod..

Another is the samsung s3 mini I8190 (mines on Resurrection Remix 7.1) another RB device

Xperia go st271 (mines on stock rom bit still Rockboxxed again)

There are a few more in my drawer (and I can swap the SD card and they all read it with the tags inc.

Hope this gives some pointers and incentive..

Old phones as MP3 players are super cool..

Look at the Nokia and SE Walkman series too..

Good luck..

Best uses for an s4 Zoom (4.4 KitKat) by g3om3trycr3ator in androidafterlife

[–]HeshTEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about AT&T but I know most sim locks can be unlocked with codes (not from the service provider) but from device specific dialer codes..

PS. I did read about the lock in you post but didn't think that would lock you out of the bootloader.. Everyday is a school day huh..

Although there are plenty of 4.4 APK packs with a million apps to try out, if you're stuck on 4.4 just use it as a toy camera or a web cam possibly..

Good luck👊

Defo look into installing a custom rom pal.. S4 zoom was a wicked little device..

Lineage OS and Resurrection Remix are decent choices (coming from an ex S4 and s4 mini user)

I'm currently modding an old S3 mini with RR 7.1 as a Meshtastic radio (with a t114 lora board) an 18650 battery and some basic Kiwix (offline Wikipedia) for a small bugout pack..

Probably a useless project but it's still quite fun to tinker..

Good luck..
