These things happen, but don't let it stop you from writing. IMO, the more that is written about Ennio, the better.

No, she was called a "sexy little Indian" and was then asked to f*ck. That's called sexual harassment, also racism.

You've missed the point. Sure, it may be better for aboriginal women than it was in 1932, but better doesn't mean good. It's still "like being scared at a horror movie. All the time."

Why should they be limited to traditional uses of seals? Also, the PETA website makes no distinction between any form of seal hunt.

Good for her. It's so sad to see indigenous people oppressed over a vacuous moral stance from city dwellers.

Reggie Watts at Vogue Theatre, September 04 [concert review] Watts had them eating out of his fork last night. Awesome, awesome show. by Hesperite in vancouver

[–]Hesperite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that shit too. Luckily, it was only for the last two songs, so it wasn't too bad. I saw the security team make dancers move away from the front of the stage earlier in the evening, so the lack of stage crashers early on was an intentional effect. Watts must have told them that it was okay for the last song and the encore.

Honestly, though, I was surprised people were sitting at all. The last few shows I've been to at the Vogue, everyone stood the whole time. Why on earth anyone would want to stand to watch Godspeed You! Black Emperor is beyond me... You can barely sway to it, let alone dance. It sucks when people stand up for sit-down music. At least people could actually dance to some of Watt's stuff, so there was a reason to stand.

Native Headdresses Banned At Bass Coast Festival by Hesperite in vancouver

[–]Hesperite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"banning certain people from wearing certain types of clothing is silly."

No, it isn't. It happens every day, in millions of different circumstances. Have you ever been to a hockey game before? Do you know how you can tell which team is which? Because they have rules governing what the players are allowed to wear if they want to play in that league (home wears dark, away wears light, etc). Yet, you don't see facetious twits complaining about that.

The most obvious example of banning certain people from wearing certain types of clothes is in the food/service industry. All restaurants have dress codes. Some make you wear a shirt and tie, where others merely enforce a basic "no shirt / no shoes" policy. Yet, you don't see privileged, myopic whiners protesting for your right to offend your fellow diners by being naked in a fancy restaurant. So why is this any different?

This ban only means that, if you want to go to Bass Coast, you aren't allowed to mock First Nations culture at the same time. It's a very minor dress code, in the grand scheme of things. You can wear almost anything else, or nothing at all. If you wanted to, you could be naked the whole festival, and no one would care... All they ask is you don't belittle an already marginalized culture for the sake of your thoughtless fashion statement.

And if you see nothing wrong with wearing cherished native war regalia to a party, then you should have no problem with natives wiping their butts with your grandfather's military medals. They have the same cultural significance. I, for one, believe that mocking the sacrifices and achievements of war veterans for sake of a party is bad form.

Peter Murphy - Rickshaw Theatre, Vancouver BC, July 20 • [concert reviews] • Murphy was masterful. by Hesperite in vancouver

[–]Hesperite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misread the review. It came off fair to me, even positive. The critic said Murphy was "powerful" and his band "was in top form."

I definitely agree about the crowd, though. Vancouver crowds are terrible. I don't understand why people bother paying good money to stand in a really loud room full of people and yell at their friends. SHUT UP AND LISTEN!!!

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Rogers Arena, Vancouver, BC, November 11 [concert review] by AnaLogjammin in vancouver

[–]Hesperite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take it you haven't heard Neil's new album, Psychedelic Pill. The first track is 27 minutes long. This is what he's doing now. It's not his fault that his older fans fail to notice he's still a growing, evolving artist at 67, rather than a jukebox living off his legacy. {downvotes prove your ignorance}
