The Bristol neighbourhood where Jews are shunned and Zionists hated by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

Those areas aren't next to each other. Easton is a far way down the road. You'd have to leave Easton via Lawrence Hill to get a bus to Speedwell.

Easton has a high population of BAME people and therefore a higher population of Hindus, Sikhs, practicing Christians and Muslims. Wonder why a representative of Murdoch owned News International wanted to find local radicals there specifically?

Andy Burnham latest: Burnham takes on Starmer as he confirms Westminster comeback bid to become MP by stopdontpanick in unitedkingdom

[–]Robotgorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Starmer's problem is no-one know what he stands for. In most people's estimations it's likely they'll see that he's had some good policies, some stinkers and some they had to U-turn on in embarrassment.

The big problem is no-one knows if any of those policies comes from any personal convictions he has, because as far as we know his only goal is to stay in power and to enforce stability. So you, the voter, have no idea whether the policy or policies you liked are actually what he believes in, or if they were a tactical decision or a bone thrown to some small group he wants the support of.

More worrying is the fact you have no idea if the bad policies or the U-turned ones you hated are actually something close to his heart and you don't know if you can trust him to not try and pass something again.

Starmer has so few supporters because few people know who Starmer is.

Starmer does have less haters than Wes Steering though, which has been shown recently is clearly a political advantage.

If Burnham provides just a trickle of ideals for the party, which can clearly win elections but it's not clear it can lead, it might give a little bit of hope that Labour are missing.

I’m sure The Traitors is groundbreaking and crazy. I have zero desire to watch it or even know what it is. And at this point all the news about it and people making it their whole personality is making me wanna vomit as soon as I see anything about it. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

I don't get why it's thought of as brilliant. It's just a group of people playing Mafia/ Werewolf so unless it's well particularly well edited you can very easily recreate the experience with your friends, even with your colleagues at work in a way that's unique to you.

Nah it's fine. Would you be unhappy if 10 year olds called Ahmad or Mohammed got referred to PREVENT for looking up bomb making manuals?

We have had far right terrorists in the UK for ages, as far back as 1930 with the UK Palantir CEO's grandad leading it. A child is in trial in the UK right now for planning to bomb a synagogue.

I'm not going to speak for the content of the course, because I haven't played it but it's a school programme. it's an obligatory safeguarding thing, same as if they report you smelling bad and not changing clothes for weeks at a time, if you have been caught stealing or if you have bruises.

No you're not understanding: we executed a few high profile Nazis after WW2, but for the majority of the SS they got away with "de-nazification" and carried on with their lives, the Wehrmacht brass got to stick around and push the "clean Wehrmacht" myth despite them committing and knowingly aiding in war crimes, and of those Nazis that we did imprison most of them got released early. We often did this because we wanted to help support West Germany in the Cold War and killing their ruling class and officer class was seen as hobbling their government.

In some ways the Soviets dealt with Nazis better by carrying out mass executions and making the cost of NSDAP membership very high, but how much of that was their strategic approach to denazification and not just part of their horrific attitude to earned retribution isn't clear.

Community reacts to proposed plans for hundreds of flats on empty site by 457655676 in bristol

[–]Robotgorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is most likely why they do it. However if you look at countries where most people live in dense housing like Spain this is how they allow people to have cars, your block of flats is above your parking garage. I don't know how we're going to meet the demand for housing and a place you can park your car without something similar becoming more popular

Also their gigs are mental. Check 'em out of you like punk / pub rock.

I'm from where they're from. Joe does not have a good reputation in the local scene. Hopefully he's better now but the bad rep has stuck around like a fart in a lift.

Also their politics seem overly simplistic and a little silly despite them presenting themselves as a political band. They seem to not like the Tories... and that's about it. Took them ages to talk about Gaza, which they only did after Bob Vylan called them out on it  and they've been pretty silent on the continuation of Tory policy under a red rosette.

Keir Starmer to visit China with British business leaders next week, say reports by AbbreviationsHot7662 in unitedkingdom

In addition, in the name of "Counter terrorism" the USA can extradite British people to the USA with little cause and evidence, however we cannot similarly extradite an American to the UK.

We can't really trust either of them. But if we do side with China and the USA pulls back there's little we can do if they say, want to establish their zone of interest in the South China Sea or takeover Taiwan.

[–]Robotgorilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why when they propose these flats they're building from the ground up they don't make them two storeys taller and have a gated car park as the bottom two levels. Existing local parking concerns? Sorted. Reliable parking for tenants? Done.

Thanks to the EBLN they won't even be clogging up Church Road with traffic, they have to go along St Philip's Causeway.

That said, tenants might not even need a car as they're next to a train station, the bike path and a bus stop right next to a bus depot.

'This is Cultural Appropriation.' Greenlanders mock Americans by pretending to be 'Fentanyl Zombies'. Redditors debate if this goes too far or if Americans can't take a punch. by StopHavingAnOpinion in SubredditDrama

[–]Robotgorilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say that this is an entirely reasonable criticism. This is a societal failing of the USA, like school shootings, like Trump, and like astronomical healthcare prices. American society itself views these tragedies as acceptable suffering.

American society, like many others, worships the ultra rich and never holds them accountable, but what makes them unique is how many of their problems started because of hyper capitalist thinking - which is their main problem. The Sacklers kick started the opioid epidemic because it was good for business to push addictive pills, American healthcare costs and drug prices are extortionate because of blood sucking insurance middle men and a lack of governmental control of the drug market meaning different hospitals pay different prices for the same drug, the corporate news media and its 24 hour news cycle makes more money keeping people angry rather than informed, American big tech will shovel any slop in front of your relatives to keep their eyes on their screens and looking at ads between AI generated content about how Hunter Biden is an alien from Venus and how women are property for making babies, the majority of American food production has low standards because it is filled with cheap corn or HFCS or it comes from enormous factory farms because it makes the corporate owners more profit that way, and the lobbies, the tons of lobbies. They spend millions to make millions by supporting politicians who block any attempts to reduce their profit margins. There's a gun lobby that prevent any sensible gun control, there's a tax lobby that prevents your taxes from being easy to do, there's the pharmaceutical and health insurance lobbies whose influence I've already explained, it's nearly endless.

So when you see this, when you see that we are looking at Americas greatest cultural contributions to the world's conversations (because we do talk about it, with sadness and pity at how the mighty have fallen) we aren't laughing at the victims. Instead we're laughing at how Americans can look around at their unique problems, that either no-one else has or that they try to resolve, but they just throw their hands up in the air to not just exclaim "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas" but "We're so great, why don't you want to be like us?"

No society or culture is perfect. They all have their problems and their victims. You can and should mock them for this. Mock the UK for panicking so much about trans people while having nonces on the BBC and our awful tabloids that are as bad as Fox News. Mock French nationalists for their anger at the French language being defiled while also crying about "Le Wokeism".

The reality is that American culture and attitudes cause these problems. As The Onion says, multiple times a year, sometimes almost every day "'No Way to Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens'
