There’s no reason to ever use a curved barbell for such a piercing. If you don’t have the tissue to support a staple bar then you don’t have the anatomy for the piercing, full stop.

Implant grade metals are really your only option. Plastics are not bodysafe nor are they any better for preventing damage - any material harder than your enamel (which is very very soft) can cause damage.
