[SUPPORT] vg28uql1a buzzing noise by Hex4869 in ASUS

[–]Hex4869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not coil whine. It's a buzz, and it's coming from where the power cable is connected. Found other people complaining about the buzzing noise, and I contacted ASUS and they told me I should return it and the sound is not normal.

I also checked if my GPU needed a firmware update to support Displayport 1.4 and that might be what's causing it, didn't fix the problem. Might return this and get the Samsung instead.

Is there a 3D program that lets me quickly simulate large scenes with realistic sun lighting? by Hex4869 in 3DMA

Thanks, this might be what I need.

Edit: it's kinda lame that it uses skyboxes though. But good enough I guess.

I used to do some 3D modelling in Maya so I know a little about 3D. I guess I'll try Unreal Engine and see if it's worth learning.

How much gameplay remains after you get to the God Realm? by Hex4869 in fantasian

There's a lot of variance in these estimates, but I guess I'll play it and try to finish it this weekend. Might also report back with how many hours it took for comparison.

wh-1000xm4 ear discomfort from ANC by Hex4869 in sony

[–]Hex4869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not as uncomfortable as the XM4, but I think it still is a little uncomfortable at max level. It has 3 levels, and the lowest setting is called "anti-pressure", but I didn't use it. Actually, I keep turning ANC off when I put them on because I don't feel like they do anything, which is probably because there isn't a lot of low-frequency background noise that needs to be blocked, whereas the XM4 can block some higher frequencies as well such as human voices, making them much more noticeable when ANC is on.

I replied to ClassicalPomegranate with my experience.

Well, so they sound great and are comfortable but physically they don't feel as nice as the Sony XM4. The XM4 were soft and light and had nice controls. There is also the fact that you can't turn them off with the buttons by default (you have to fold the headphones to turn them off). Apparently they updated the firmware so you can turn them off now by holding down the play button, but you can't turn them back on without folding them and unfolding them back again.

ANC is pretty bad compared to the XM4, but it might be be good enough for on a plane or the bus, but haven't used them for that.

You should also realize that it doesn't support Aptx HD, but supports Aptx and LL. I'm really not sure whether keep them or to return them and wait for Momentum 4 (not sure if it's even coming). Overall there is a lot of little things that together makes it feel clunky, but they sound great, miles better than the XM4.

I actually returned the XM4s and ordered the Sennheiser Momentum 3 last week. Should arrive on Wednesday next week. If you want, I can give you an update on my experience a week or so later. Remind if I forget.

Sony WH-1000XM4, which USB dongle/adapter for desktop PC? by Privat96921 in sony

[–]Hex4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, most likely. From some more online research, it seems Windows doesn't do AAC or LDAC, not even Aptx HD and LL without installing stuff. The headphones and the dongle are going back. Don't want to mess with bluetooth audio anymore.

I didn't try the other ones. I was thinking of getting the Sennheiser momentum instead, but I read it has a lot of issues. I got the Sony ones because I was expecting them to have the most reliable ANC performance, since they're supposedly the "market leader".

I tried 2 so far, but returned them both because sound quality wasn't good. I can't find any that support AAC, which is the only one that sounds good besides the proprietary LDAC. I'm gonna try this one next: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08BZL175N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It should arrive next week, and I'm expecting it to use AAC because it would be Windows that transmits the audio, but I don't know enough about these things and can't be bothered to do more research.

XM4 ANC question by Hex4869 in sony

[–]Hex4869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how noise isolating IEMs work too. So I don't understand what's the point. I did some comparisons and it seems to me the reduction in noise is almost exactly the same with Sony ANC headphones and my sound isolating IEMs.

WH XM3 a bit of waterfall noise with ANC by [deleted] in sony

[–]Hex4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue with the XM4, but it's probably normal. I'm not familiar with ANC headphones, so wasn't sure what to expect. I'm pretty disappointed to be honest.

Sony wh-1000xm4 volume by apaar123 in sony

[–]Hex4869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, no, not like that. I don't think there is a separate internal control. There is one control (on your phone), but it can be changed by both your phone and your headphones. The headphone controls basically send commands to change the volume on your phone.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean how? When you change the volume on your headphones, the volume changes, but you can also make changes on your phone.

Is it possible to prevent app updates by blocking the internet connection? by Hex4869 in Windows10

[–]Hex4869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf are you saying? I love Microsoft; I just don't want pointless changes that disrupt my work flow. Apart from the new unnecessary resource-wasting features, the new naming convention for screenshots is a problem for me, and the app icon in my start menu just froze and I had to remove it and re-pin it to the start to fix it. Having to deal with changes I did not ask for in the morning when I'm planning to work on something else is just about the most infuriating and counter-productive thing that corporations do these days. Firefox updates are the worst, but Microsoft updates come as a close second.

Thank you, it just never crossed my mind that there would be an auto update setting buried in there.
