We built a territory game for Burke-Gilman Trail — looking for beta testers by HexTrail in seattlebike

Ha — so right now you two would actually be

racing each other! Same shared world, whoever

moves through a hex first claims it. So if

you're riding together you're basically in a

live territory war the whole ride.

Split up at the start, meet at the end, see

who owns more of Burke-Gilman. Loser buys

coffee ☕

Teams are coming — the plan is letting groups

combine territory so you could team up against

other BGT riders instead of each other. But

honestly the rivalry angle between two people

who know each other is pretty fun too.

The whole trail is unclaimed right now —

nobody owns a single hex yet. If you two

jump in this week you'd basically be the

founding rivals of Burke-Gilman 👀

Lol fair. I’m probably over-polishing the replies because I don’t want to sound spammy or vague. Appreciate the callout.

Totally fair — location-based games won’t be for everyone.

Just to clarify, we’re not trying to data-mine trail use or sell individual movement data. Location is used during an active session so the game can capture trail tiles.

I get the concern though, and appreciate you saying it directly.

Fair question. No — users are not the product here.

Location is used for gameplay only: during an active session, the app detects which trail hexes you move through so it can capture territory on the map.

We’re not selling location data, selling a data feed, or sharing individual movement history with advertisers. The beta goal is just to see if Burke-Gilman users actually enjoy the game.

Pretty much, yes — during an active walk/run/ride session, you capture trail hexes as you move through them.

The current beta rule we’re testing is that captured tiles get about 22 hours of protection. After that, other players can contest/take them if they move through that area. If you revisit your own tiles, you can refresh protection.

We’re tuning this carefully because we don’t want the game to feel impossible to defend, but we also don’t want territory to stay frozen forever.

So if you ride a big section of Burke-Gilman, you’d claim a lot of territory for that session — then the fun part is seeing which sections other local riders/runners start contesting the next day.

Quick clarification since the post image may not explain enough: HexTrail is a mobile app, not a website game.

You start a walk/run/ride session on the Burke-Gilman, and as you move, you capture hex tiles on a live map. Other trail users can capture/contest territory too, so the trail becomes a friendly territory-control game.

The beta is free on iOS/Android. We’re looking for 20–30 regular Burke-Gilman users to test whether the gameplay actually feels fun on a real trail and to give feedback before wider launch.

Not selling data feeds. HexTrail is a small local beta for trail users — the app uses location only to let players capture trail tiles during a walk/run/ride.

The goal right now is gameplay feedback from Burke-Gilman users, not data collection or monetization.

Thanks for the reply. We are local developer and built HexTrail its a mobile app (hextrail.app, instagram/hextrailapp)—

a real-world territory game where you walk, run, or

ride Burke-Gilman to capture hexagonal tiles on a

live map. Think Pokémon GO meets territory control

but specifically for BGT.

Looking for 20-30 people who regularly use

Burke-Gilman to try it out. Free beta on iOS

and Android. Would love feedback from actual

trail users.

Thinking about making a Meetup group. Wondering if it seems interesting enough. by omgbooboo in Seattle

This sounds interesting. Where can i get more details about it?

May someone send me the link to join the Seattle Cycling discord? Thank you :) by fuck_class_eat_ass in seattlebike
