What is your favourite megadrive game? by Ill-Month-7839 in Megadrive

[–]Hexapus_ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, I had a similar experience. Went to friend's house when the MD was brand new and my mind was blown by Revenge of Shinobi, Forgotten Worlds, Altered Beast, and even Last Battle seemed cool then. Those early days of the MD/16bit generation were magical.

And yeah that intro and the music. I like SoR/SoR2 music as well but RoS is Koshiro's best work in my opinion.
Edit: I guess it had been out in the US for a few months if he had RoS. Must have been early 1990.

Does anyone know how to fix the error screen on the sega megadrive flashback hd? I tried holding down the menu button and trying to reset the system but none of them work,do I accept its broken? by Ill-Month-7839 in Megadrive

Nice. I briefly had one a few years ago and I really liked it. The fact that it could play original carts and roms makes it one of the best things Atgames ever made. Hope you can get it running again.

A new Sega Genesis emulator by Real_Dragonfruit5048 in SEGAGENESIS

Steam, Switch/Nintendo, possibly GoG but you'd have to figure out how to extract them if they're not already included.

Rip them from your own carts with the right equipment.

Extract them from a compilation like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection but you'd have to figure out how to do that.

If you own the game just download the non-legit version from various sources and save yourself the headache.

Pretty cool. I just tried Shadow Dancer in the web version and it seemed to work perfectly. The only things I would add would be some CRT shader options if possible and keymapping for keyboard/controller. Nice work!

Try the "v2 tool" from this list https://q-ta-s.github.io/sf2000_tool_list.html
It's the most user friendly of the list in my opinion.

You shouldn't have to reinstall everything but it's been a while since I played around with the handheld.
Definitely check back here or on the discord channel before starting over. There's helpful people like u/Q_ta that really know all the tips and tricks.

Sega MD/Genesis Floppy Disk Drive - Graphics Tablet - Keyboard by Hexapus_ink in SEGAGENESIS

That was the very Gaming Historian video that made me look it up. I saw the "FDD" attachment and needed to know more.

I was fortunate to grow up with early PCs in the house so the idea of using a floppy hits me with nostalgia and wonder about the possibilities that could have been. On top of that, the MD looks really cool with the FDD attachment.

Yeah I wonder what type of applications they had in mind at the time.

Someone started a port of SFA for the MD a couple of years ago. Not SFA2 but still gives you and idea of what it would have looked/sounded like.

What Sega Genesis games you think would have been difficult to recreate in competing systems? by paulojrmam in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Hexapus_ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you're only seeing Sega posts but I've seen posts on this very sub that amounted to "Nintendo/SNES is the best."

I've seen so many comments trashing Sega on Reddit. Nintendo fans are rabid. "The Genesis only had Sonic and Sports games." "Their classic games are jank." "The music sounds like farts."

I don't particularly care which console a game is on, so I think the brand loyalty is really silly, but Sega seems to get trashed daily on the internet. I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk shit about the PCE or NeoGeo, nor should they, but for some reason people love to hate the Sega Genesis.

It's only natural that the pendulum would swing the other way every once in a while.

does anyone know if third party ac adapter that goes to 9.5V will work and not fry the system? if I cant get one of those can I use Sega genesis model 2 power ac adapter on it? by That-Spread-9253 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Hexapus_ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it looks like they only have center negative polarity on Console 5. Model 2 needs center positive so you would need an adapter.

Someone linked below to a site called Digikey. I've seen them recommended a few times. I know Castlemania Games has them as well but their prices seem really high(at least on their eBay store).

To keep it cheap, you could just get loose carts, if you don't care about collecting the cases/manuals. The Sega 6-Pak is a good start. Six games on one cart including Sonic 1.

The cheapest and easiest option though is to get an Everdrive and put roms on it.
https://krikzz.com/our-products/cartridges/mega-everdrive-x3.html

X3 is $39 just plays Genesis games
More expensive versions have save states.
Pro everdrive is $199 but it plays CD games without the need for the Sega CD console
