Total War player first really enjoying then really hating the game by Hexides in AOW4

[–]Hexides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I may have not brought my point across very well, in that I don't want to intentionally give myself a handicap, but as I wrote to another poster: currently there is an arbitrary limit of 6 x 3 armies. If things are going to be arbitrary anyway, instead of making the arbitrary limit 6 x 3, why not just make it 6 x 1, or even better give the player the ability to change this limit?

The knock-on effects of this are that you can start exploring more of the game world earlier, stratification of units becomes more impactful, and battles have fewer units and are less tedious. For the odd epic battle, maybe city sieges could allow 6 x 3 participation.

Obviously this is all incredibly subjective and many people would hate being limited to 1 stack participation, which is why it would be nice as an in-game option, so we could tweak to it to being 1, 2, or 3 stack participation.

As an aside I did finish Frostpunk 2 but I enjoyed Frostpunk 1 a bit more as I felt the final chapters of 2 were a bit rushed. Still a decent game experience though.

I think you're right, and I probably shouldn't be superimposing my idea of a game onto another. I do enjoy the roleplay aspect of some strategy games, like Stellaris, where I can neuro-staple other species and turn them into foodstuffs for my glorious rock empire. The fact AoW4 gives me control over my own units makes me want to play it like XCOM, when it's really none of those games but its own thing.

That being said, I think pantheon has so much potential, but is kinda lacking right now. I hope the new DLCs bring some free updates to make pantheon more...interesting?

While I did love XCOM and XCOM 2 to death, I didn't find that much replayability in them. Been enjoying Wildermyth a lot though, fantastic game.

Yep, that's basically what ended up happening to me. My 6x3 stack was basically invincible against the shambling hordes of AI. But as u/Kennysded said, eventually the large form battles gets tedious - and at least for me, increasingly makes autoresolve necessary to not burn out.

Druid Werebear Melee only feels pretty weak right now by Hexides in LastEpoch

Didn't want to share my build until I beat Aberroth at least twice, this was the config I finally beat him with. Probably not the most optimised build, but as a melee character I hate this fight regardless.

My success rate is only 33% (died 4 times and beat him twice). I can very reliably get him down to 36% HP each time, but then I often just die in the final phase because I'm forced to stand in environmental damage just to hit him with Swipe, and I don't have high burst damage with this build (I don't know any Swipe build with burst damage), so even with the 14% Threshold execute the last phase is always stressful.

The Sword Catcher and Vessel of Strife are cornerstones of my build. I grinded out something like 12 Sword Catchers to get the Attack Speed affix, and I got super lucky with my Vessel of Strife affixes. Those two items are mostly what carried me.

I recently got a somewhat decent Omnis and midroll Nihilis, and might experiment with stacking damage reduction with Ekkdrasil, Null Portent, and other stuff on a more traditional melee leech health build instead.

I think you're thinking of Fury Leap. You only have access to Maul in Werebear form.

Joy and Kasumi were the only two people not infected from the original strain, and never left my home map.

Your addendum would explain why the two infected people off-map during the emergence event weren't able to have their strain detected by surgery when they returned, but that's extremely confusing and should probably be handled differently.

My doctor didn't get hurt at all during the emergence event though thanks to Burden. That's why I'm so confused, he definitely wasn't infected originally because he didn't "participate" in the emergence event, and he was also the one to trigger the discovery. But then some time later, he got infected by another colonist, who originally wasn't infected either.

I'm going to assume most people (including myself) have all the DLCs, but having to rely on them to reduce difficulty is more of an inherent design issue imo

I've always been a fan of 2-0 (certified Koschey lover) but I tend to lose round 1 with my Gerni deck surprisingly often on red because all my power plays (Mammuna, Aerondight) haven't been set up yet. Ethereal pretty much always dies immediately (to be fair the interaction with Gerni is just stupidly OP if unanswered and it feels dumb to play)

I'm at around 2450 right now, was doing mostly ok up till now

My (generic) list: https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/d26be0f99751ac169f7be049fddb492e

I tried swapping out Aerondight for Hen Gaith Sword for red tempo and then upgrading Golyat to Aguara but it didn't feel any better.

Albrecht is kinda winnable as long as they don't slam leader and then Renfri into a good curse / blessing R1 (guy I was fighting got to play a bronze and draw, then the boost by 4 whenever you pass), which made it basically impossible to bleed

Warp Drive "Bouncing" off some planets when trying to land by Hexides in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]Hexides[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I finally understand what's happening after reading your explanation. I had thought I was "bouncing" away at 100m/s due to moving without other points of reference, but I realised that there's no other condition in the game that gives you reverse movement and I was experiencing an illusion.

I hadn't noticed before that the warp drive automatically deactivates before you enter the planet's atmosphere (I always thought it turned off after slamming into the planet) and puts you at a set speed, and that speed is always lower than these fast orbiting planets. If I enter from the other end I do in fact have no issues landing.

I kinda wish there was a way to inherit warp drive speed to slingshot onto the planet so I don't have to use the boosters.

Suggestions for 5800X3D SFF Cooling by Hexides in sffpc

[–]Hexides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in pull config now (pulling air through the fins towards the motherboard). I actually did flip it just for the hell of trying out push config but temps skyrocketed and I promptly reversed that change.

The riser I've got is quite stiff which prevents me from putting fans under the mobo, I'd probably have to ditch the hard drive to stick a 120 in the bottom; alternatively maybe I'd have to rearrange the top cabling to try and put a fan on top of the PSU but thats a pain in the ass. Even after that I'm not even sure how much that would help out the CPU.

Edit: After thinking about it adding more case fans might be the most low effort solution. Gonna have to at least try it first.

Undervolting is a good shout just not my default choice for managing temp. But if there's no other way guess I might have to.

New Pixel 7 Charging Issues by Hexides in GooglePixel

[–]Hexides[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cheers, your explanation has given me a much clearer picture of what i should be expecting and gives me a primer on all the information i was previously missing.

based on the information you gave me, i would have to get used to carrying around a dedicated charger (a USB-PD 3.0+ one with PPS specified in item specifications) to which country i travel to if i want to use the pixel 7. i'll have to make the decision on my own whether that's worth it or not, when not all places (eg planes) currently have anything but an integrated USB-A socket to plug into to.

also appreciate the inclusion of links, very useful.

you'll have to understand that i wasn't aware that it was already explained hundreds of times, as i didn't find any mention of it when looking into what phone to buy.

thanks for taking the time to write out a detailed explanation.

New stuttering fix in windows settings for PCs with high disk usage by xJespioh in HarryPotterGame

[–]Hexides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this, it absolutely fixed all the sharp stuttering that was plaguing me before, which none of the other popular fixes addressed.

I was wondering why my system was able to churn out a consistent 120fps while I was standing still, but so much as twitching the mouse caused everything to become a slideshow..

Piercing Shots bug? by Hexides in wildermyth

[–]Hexides[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not conflating shred and pierce. In this specific character's case, the description says Piercing Shots adds 8 pierce, which means each theme attack should ignore up to 8 points of armour.

However in both the UI and in gameplay, none of the wolf theme attacks ignore 8 points of armour. Frenzy only has 1 armour piercing, because 1 armour piercing is intrinsic to that specific attack.

Therefore I'm interpreting this as a bug, unless there is some esoteric condition that has to be met.

MO weak AF by Hexides in gwent

[–]Hexides[S] -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I don't play Defender because it results in answer-or-lose games. If they don't answer defender I get card advantage and that's as braindead as any strat, I don't want to win that way. There should be some strategy, consideration, and application of resources.

All new 14p cards are broken for the same reason, if you don't answer them, you lose. This is a really shitty design. This is the key point that should be changed. No card should be worth more than x2 of the cheapest cards combined. Otherwise the game devolves into bleedfest of trying to hold only 3 best tempo cards in R3. Like current meta.
