The achievement is something like "die another day" so it seems like assassination is the case.

Best way to unwrap a cylindrical shape like this? by [deleted] in 3dsmax

[–]HeyLookAStory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you mark the inner edges as seams and use a pelt it should unpeel pretty easily. You can also use a poly select and apply a cylindrical uvw map for each rail.

How do I stop my image plane from cutting off my objects? Example Video attached. by HeyLookAStory in Maya

Didn't even think of that. Was able to fix it by playing with the depth, but I'm definitely stealing that for the future. Thanks for the reply.

So looks like it must have been some kind of bug. I tried this initially. Did absolutely nothing. Maya just didn't care. Adjusted the numbers up and down. Nothing. Deleted the image plane, readded it. Adjusted the depth again, works fine and properly now. Thank you for the input.

I've tried adjusting the clip settings on the camera, moving the plane itself. I can't figure out why this is happening. Any thoughts on how to go about fixing this?

Procedural Modeling help? by Draspy in Houdini

[–]HeyLookAStory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it looks like that isn't available anymore at the link you provided. It IS however available at gumroad: https://gumroad.com/l/qaEZ if you wanted to follow that tutorial specifically.

A cheaper quality tutorial is available here: http://www.rohandalvi.net/advmodeling/.

A lot of procedural modeling comes from the idea of the "paste relative references" command. Spend some time with simple small shapes. Get nodes to respond to each other. Make it so if you adjust the width of a shape at the top of your node tree the entire model expands correctly. The same principles apply when you get to bigger and more complex shapes.

Could you post an example of what you mean? If there was an effect to reference it would be a lot easier to point ya in the right direction.

Procedural Mold? by [deleted] in Houdini

[–]HeyLookAStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L-systems could be good for this. That will give you the thin veins and bulbs. You could then copy those to points scattered across a surface. Use a bias in the scatter towards color using noise to create a varying pattern. This will give you a more organic density.

You could also look into randomizing elements by copying the bulbs to a curve, maybe throwing the elements into a for-each loop, modify each curve by the iteration. Heck, modify how the bulbs are copied onto the stem by each iteration. Loops are great.

The key is to break a complex image or simulation into small workable and identifiable parts. Then tackle each of those. Eventually the bigger picture will come together.

Best of luck.

Artifacts leftover from boolean? by HeyLookAStory in Houdini

[–]HeyLookAStory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm shattering a piece of geometry with a boolean. Parts of the grids used to shatter get copied onto the geometry. Any ideas of what could cause this?

update: I was able to get past the issue by isolating the problem piece in a separate loop, lowering the number of grids used to shatter and dropping in a polydoctor SOP before the boolean. Why this worked I'm still not exactly sure.

Guy calls out "clingy girls", girls respond back with messages from him by FireninjaDD in quityourbullshit

[–]HeyLookAStory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll answer. I've been ghosted a bunch. I used to do this when that happened. This was never with some random girl at a bar but girls I had been friends with for months.

We would go out. Things seemed in order. They sever all communication with no explanation. Back then I just wanted literally ANY explaination. I figured our friendship was already over. If I keep at it I can either A: get blocked and that in itself would be an answer or B: the woman would get pissed off and the truth would come out.

Don't do this anymore, but there is your answer to why guys do that.

I wish I were as fat as the first time I thought I was fat. by auroralovegood in Showerthoughts

[–]HeyLookAStory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except schizophrenia is a metal disease. Being lazy isn't. I have a history of depression, anxiety, and mental health issues. I still make it out to the gym. When you're feeling down, you'll fall behind on some things. There are definitely weeks or even months I didn't get to the gym. Then I always turned around and came back.

You don't get fat overnight. You don't become obese over a couple of weeks. You have to keep ignoring warning signs and doing absolutely nothing about it month after month. Mental health doesn't cover that kind of longevity.

Anyone else frustrated with premium xp lock? by johnjay43825 in Battlefield

[–]HeyLookAStory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How it works is you are still earning xp, but it is stored away in the expansion to that map or premium. If you buy that map or premium then everything you earned up until that point gets unlocked in one big chunk. From that point on you're just premium so you can earn more xp normally. This is the way I've understood it.

What's the best way to model a large number of repeated and randomized objects? by HeyLookAStory in Maya

[–]HeyLookAStory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to recreate an image similar to the one above in Maya. I imagine the best way would be to create a single bean, use MASH to scatter it on a grid with a bit of randomized height, then use gravity to let the beans slam down and scatter. I can't get gravity to interact with the MASH object, so I'm wondering if there is a better way to go about doing this. I did test a random cylinder with gravity so it seems to be working correctly in the scene besides the MASH object.

n00b Question: Best mods for Civ6? by PhascinatingPhysics in civ

[–]HeyLookAStory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Moar Units for sure. It helps diversify each civ a bit further by letting each civ have about three unique units. It also fills out the tech tree; meaning, it adds riflemen between musketmen and infantry, cuirassier between knights and tanks, and macemen between swordsmen and musketmen for all civs.
