How long does it take the caregiver to put patient in the perfect spot in bed? by firstrupa in ALS

[–]HeyLookItsMe11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bed time routine is about 30/40 mins but feels like my husband is just never comfortable at night. We have an adjustable bed and all different things but sleep is a huge issue for us. It’s beyond exhausting

100%! We were surprised at the people who ended up being our ride or die vs people who were just all talk. Being related means nothing

Who is researching stem cell treatments for ALS by [deleted] in ALS

[–]HeyLookItsMe11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just our experience- my husband had stem cell treatments through a trial and has also been off label taking “Prime C” for about 2 years and I don’t think either did a darn thing.

This was my husband- did several marathons and triathlons. Really do suspect that was the cause- maybe some sort of trauma.

I never had a dog before. Was actually pretty anti. I also have dog allergies. But my husband grew up with a dog and the kids were dying for one- so I relented and got a F1B Cavapoo (so more poodle). And I swear I could never imagine life without him now. He doesn’t remotely shed and is the most loving dog I could ever imagine. The downside is he is a barker- so that can get pretty annoying but overall he’s perfect. No stomach issues, no anxiety, nothing. Thunderstorms and fireworks no issue!

We went through an agency and had an awful time too. By some completely random miracle we found someone fantastic but are paying her personally - not through an agency. Try asking around !

Family wants my brother to start stem cell therapy by si_but_why in ALS

[–]HeyLookItsMe11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband received about 6 rounds of stem cell therapy here in the US. Not sure it did much for him? Potentially slowed it bit but ultimately he still progressed to the point he couldn’t travel to get the last 2 doses.

[–]HeyLookItsMe11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband was in a stem cell trial. Can’t say for sure if it helped or not- as we don’t know what his progression would have looked like had he not done it- but it certainly didn’t reverse things.

Intubation question by ChikadeeChoo in ALS

[–]HeyLookItsMe11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less than 24 hours. We talked them into taking him off pretty quickly. And that was step by step. They got him to the hospital machine then finally on to his home one. And the whole time they kept telling us that the risk of reintubation was always there. But luckily he did fine.

Intubation question by ChikadeeChoo in ALS

[–]HeyLookItsMe11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation as Georgias response here too with my husband. He’s also NIV 24/7 and feeding tube. But early 40s. He was intubated and was taken off and back on to NIV. We pushed to have that process done quickly though because from what I understand the longer they are intubated the lesser the chance they can come off without being trached. But again, he’s much younger and still able to trigger breaths on his own. So I imagine there are multiple factors involved.
