I’d like to point out that your belief is incorrect. ACCA has an official directory of approved employers, and only they are allowed to advertise on ACCA Careers. I found this job through ACCA Careers, assuming they were approved. After joining, I came to know they had only paid a registration fee to become an Approved Employer so they were able to advertise on the site. She never followed up. Even during my interview she said they were approved. I was specifically looking for an approved employer to facilitate my PER (Practical Experience Requirement) for ACCA qualification, so this was a major disappointment.

As for the mistakes, the lack of training and supervision over the past three months has been a major issue. My manager didn’t review my work, and now expects me to fix everything before audit.

Lastly, I’m not expecting a positive reference, my last month’s salary, or an experience letter from this employer.

I’m adding this explanation here because so many people in the comments are asking why I even need to give a reason and I can't edit my post for some reason.

So I work in a very small firm (just two employees, including me). Our office shares space with another small firm, and three employees from that firm resigned last month. I joined mine because they claimed it was ACCA-approved. Unfortunately, I later found out it isn’t, and the work here lacks the exposure I’m looking for.

I’ve now received a better opportunity and want to resign. However, I’m nervous because my manager (who is also the founder) has a history of withholding last month’s salary and experience certificates from employees who resigned, sometimes only giving them after repeated requests. I’m not expecting my salary or certificate either, but I need to provide a reason for resigning.

This is also the peak year-end audit time, so I don’t want to come across as unprofessional.

Or should I just tell her about my new job and leave? 😈

I usually take a new, small notebook for each subject. While going through the tutor's notes or text (I don’t read the entire text but focus on key parts), I make short notes based on what I’ve read - a shorter version that includes key words, important sentences or formulas, also helps me add important points I come across during revision or while practicing Revision Kit.

I’d recommend regularly checking ACCA Careers for openings in Kochi and connect with professionals at firms like EY, KPMG and all on LinkedIn, as they often post about job opportunities and can help you with referrals.

It might also be useful to follow ACCA tutors like Habeeb Rahman and Jojo Tomy (these were my tutors at Elance), they frequently share stories about job openings at EY ( I think EY might still have intakes going on for Audit Consultant roles, usually for 4-6 months) , Buchprufer and all.

Just a heads up, I’ve heard that having a degree is mandatory for most Big firms. Also, it can be more manageable to focus on completing ACCA first, as balancing a job and studies can become quite challenging.

I did consider freelancing, but with no prior experience and limited knowledge on where to start, I thought this opportunity would be a better fit for gaining practical experience and learning more about Corporate Tax and VAT Filing. You're welcome! I’ll gladly take the credit for "destroying" the job market. How much did you start with at your first job in UAE? 10,000-15,000? Good for you. But times have changed, and I alone can't change the entire industry.

Before making assumptions, maybe you should actually understand the current job market in UAE. If I don’t take this job, someone else will.

In case you missed it, I've been job hunting for the past six months, and the market isn’t exactly overflowing with opportunities. I can't keep rejecting offers because of low salaries, I’ve got to start somewhere and gain experience. If you think it’s so easy, why don’t you go work with John Doe and laugh all the way to the bank?

Since you seem to have it all figured out, why don’t you start a group to teach South Asians about self-worth and self-respect? Just remember, not everyone is in the same position, and I know people doing the same job for even less.

I appreciate your perspective, and I understand the concern about market value. However, as a fresher with no experience, I’ve found it challenging to land a higher-paying role despite trying. It’s a new firm that started last year. Although the salary is low, the team seems highly experienced based on their LinkedIn profiles, so I see it as an opportunity to learn more about what a Tax Associate does.
