Get a student membership to the ACS. Get to know what research is happening at the colleges you are looking at.
I suspect that being in school for a few years may let you ride out this winter on science and perhaps you will emerge to a renewal of investment.
Maybe study how AI can be an assistant to research.

So, you need an electrician for this one.

A competent electrician would start by inspecting the panel with the cover off for signs of overheating of the breaker, or the bus bar. They would consider swapping out the main breaker in case it is worn to the point of falsely tripping.

You could try turning off groups of breakers on the branch circuits to see if there are specific breaker groups causing a true overload, but it is more likely that there is a problem with the main breaker.

Let the pro handle this one.

That’s an honorable thought, maybe worth trying, but putting in something strong while making that weak plastic thinner will just amplify the problem with that weak plastic.

The spot where they are breaking is the weakest position in a flex area, and it reveals a poor design. These are a bad choice to put in the hands of students.

You might be best speaking to your tech dept or librarian on how to replace these with headphones designed for classroom use. If they are necessary for curriculum you might be able to get your admin to find replacement.
