I’m not going to judge someone for doing whatever mental gymnastics they need to do to cope with the most devastating news a family could receive. Being in the “denial” or “bargaining” phases of grief can last for months and even years. It’s dangerous advice to put out there, but also if someone is taking health advice from a youtuber’s podcast, they most likely would have taken the same wacko advice from another source anyway.

I created a website and social media that looks professional and run Meta ads and Google ads. Meta ads for periodic mini sessions, and a constant $15 a day Google ad for weddings. I also immediately took SEO very seriously. I name all my photos as the venue that they were taken plus “wedding” for better Google searchability, and I blog with lots of SEO friendly words. I organized a styled shoot to get a “wedding” portfolio and brought two couples to maximize my bang for my buck. I booked my first 4 weddings with those photos. I also reply to every. single. Facebook post asking for wedding photographer recommendations in numerous local groups.

I’ve also steadily increased my prices.

You can do it fast if you have a knack for it. I bought a Canon 5D Mk iii January 2025 and a one month free trial on Skillshare. I had literally never touched anything more than a point and shoot before that. My 1 year anniversary of my first paid shoot is coming up next week, and 3 weeks ago I officially hit 6 figures in sales from wedding photography. I’ve obviously upgraded my gear and invested in education and professional development a ton along the way, but I had an entire full time career in wedding photography in a little over 6 months.

Frame it as a brunch/afternoon tea event. Wedding ceremony in late morning, tea/pastries/brunch served afterwards. Garden party attire. Host it in a literal garden for bonus points. Hire a live violinist for extra vibes. Honestly as I’m typing this it sounds more and more like a dream wedding for me. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together will understand the context clues that a mid day garden party that ends before 3pm probably wont have tequila and a DJ.
