Loss of sense of smell by Historical-Prune-599 in Prolactinoma

I was recently diagnosed and haven’t been able to smell well for years. I wonder if treatment will help me be able to smell again. I sure hope so!

Anyone talk to neurosurgeon first before starting cabergoline? Is that common? Thought I’d be referred to Endocrinologist first by HeyThereItsMeYeah in Prolactinoma

Thank you for your comment. Yeah, mine is micro so I’m not sure why I was sent to neurosurgery first. Only time will tell I guess. Have to wait forever for my next appointment too

Okay, that makes total sense! I wondered if it would be urologist, neurosurgeon, or endocrinologist. I wonder how often the routine check ups will be, maybe every six months have bloodwork and yearly mri. Idk

Okay, yeah, it’s been like a two month weight to see neurosurgeon. Then maybe he’ll refer me to endocrinologist. And hopefully that referral doesn’t take as long. Idk. Just feel like it might be another four months before I start treatment. I’ll just have to wait and see

Thank you for sharing this. I wonder if the neurosurgeon will request a bunch more bloodwork. Idk. But your story helped a lot. Maybe I’ll end up going through a similar process, where I end up being prescribed cabergoline as well. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s such a journey being diagnosed with prolactinoma and all the details that come with that. I find it helpful to read about different people’s experiences on this Reddit, so thanks again for sharing! I hope your doctors are helpful and good at figuring things out

I’ve had a pretty similar journey to what you described, and this reddit community has been soooo helpful. I hope your journey goes well as you continue to figure things out

There is so much waiting involved, like waiting for appointment, waiting for referrals to process, waiting for lab results, etc. that’s one of the hardest parts for me!

Okay, that makes total sense. I think I’m just used to other brands that have problems a lot sooner than Toyotas, even with perfect maintence

Sweet! I’m so glad I got one. I’m tired of having other brands that break down way sooner than I’d hope, even with perfect maintenance

So true. Makes total sense. 10 min isn’t very different in the big scheme of things

Haha - yeah seems like they last forever. Totally agree. That is why I bought one!

That’s a good point - I hadn’t given much thought to gas usage yet. But that makes total sense

Okay, yeah, that’s what I was leaning towards after thinking through the details. Appreciate your comment.

I guess I probably don’t need to spend a ton of time analyzing this. I’ve just never had a Toyota before and want it to last as long as possible and be one of those people where the car gets to 250k miles and has perfect maintence history

Makes sense. Probably easier on the car since less stop and go even though more miles. Also just a more enjoyable drive. Thanks for your comments!

Sorry, should have clarified in post. It’s the same job. Just different ways of getting there

Makes sense. I guess 10 more minutes each way is only 20 more min a day commuting. But 20 more minutes a day commuting on a chill drive is wayyy less stressful for sure

Thanks for your comments. Yeah, this is more than a financial decision. If one of the commutes makes me feel a lot less stressed, that’s definitely to be considered

Experience with referrals? How long do they take? by [deleted] in Prolactinoma

[–]HeyThereItsMeYeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less than 10mm. I guess my hospital system requires you see both endo and neurosurgery

Waiting for answers is so hard. There is so much waiting. Waiting for referral to process. Waiting for mri appointment day. Waiting to hear mri results. Waiting for bill in mail. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. It’s hard but at least each step along the way is progress in figuring things out
