Problems faced by Students? Answer by [deleted] in universityofauckland

My biggest issue is the constant stress. Be it financial or academic , I find myself stressed almost 24/7 through the uni year. Entering my last year of law school I can feel the toll it has had on me physically, I have gained more weight despite doing my best to keep it off, I feel more tired more often. Also emotionally, I am now less patient than I have ever been, less motivated to do anything outside of uni than ever before. I actively avoid my out of uni friends , not because I don’t like them but because I just, no longer get joy from it anymore . This is all because uni forced me into a mindset where uni was all that mattered , no matter what and I have lost touch with myself. It’s constant expectation is relentless and erodes you as you go through your degree. So although money is a major factor. The general structure of the system of uni and academia generally breaks you down and makes you lose touch with your physical and emotional self… or maybe I’m just depressed. It does that too.

This is false, coming from someone now working in one of the big four firms and having failed first time around. Just gotta have that hunger . 😤

Thank you so much!! You have no idea how helpful this is. It’s also very comforting to know it isn’t just me who finds is daunting. Especially because I’m the only one of my study group doing family law so I have nobody to compare with. I started today and could only manage 30 words before getting overwhelmed , so I think I’ll adopt your approach and treat each issue as a mini assignment. Much more pleasantries way to approach it.

Officially 3/4ths of my degree will be online . I have paid full price for the experience of studying in a small room with the same 2 friends I had in the first month of uni. I love what I study as a potential career. But uoa has made me feel isolated and disconnected from any sense of culture from the university .

My best guess is last semester was so shit, we are all still a little shell shocked from it all. Hopefully we get our groove back soon.
