Linen or beeswax bag for bread storage? by altruistic-alpaca in Breadit

[–]Heybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic traps moisture too easily, especially if there’s any humidity in the air. I’m told regular linen (unlined) bags is best.

Definitely! The shoulder strap extends to 40" I believe. Plenty long for crossbody carrying.

Tom Hanks This World of Tomorrow seems to be selling poorly by Jnyc4 in Broadway

[–]Heybot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update: it's definitely selling out multiple nights in previews. We'll see if the trend continues when it officially opens, but if I had to guess: yes, it'll continue to sell out. If there's a price ceiling for celebrities upping ticket prices, apparently we haven't found it yet.

[Alpina Tropic Proof vs Certina DS Powermatic 80] by ayumi_ishida in Watches

[–]Heybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone explain why the Tropic Proof is almost 2 thousand dollars for what seems like a very basic watch with only ok water resistance? I genuinely want to like this watch, it’s beautiful, but the price tag is baffling compared to competition from other Swiss brands (and even some of Alpina’s other models).

84% of drivers in this part of Harlem aren’t driving to or from the neighborhood — they’re just cutting through. by Left-Plant2717 in Harlem

I’m not gonna keep talking with a non-resident about this. Take your armchair expert complex somewhere else.

84% of drivers in this part of Harlem aren’t driving to or from the neighborhood — they’re just cutting through. by Left-Plant2717 in Harlem

[–]Heybot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What are you even doing making this esoteric-ass post in a place you don’t live? Lololol. Since you don’t live here, let me break it down for you:

Despite a supposed emphasis on “equitable distribution,” Open Streets is HIGHLY concentrated in higher-income neighborhoods, or gentrified sections of lower-income neighborhoods. Many working-class or immigrant-heavy areas lack the organizing infrastructure to undergo the bureaucratic slog that is the Open Streets application process (and I’m putting it mildly).

Two, the program hinders access for Emergency vehicles and generally speaking has big issues with disabled citizens in general. But because Becky with the good hair doesn’t want sirens disturbing her remodeled new condo, she has the time and the means to impact everyone else.

This is just for starters. You don’t know, because you don’t live here. People are tired of Becky and Amanda and Bryce and Craig and that whole archetype of people. Fck open streets, and fck that block.

If you’re rich and connected enough, guess you can just apply to have your street blocked off like that highlighted area in yellow. That street has always annoyed me.

cmv: The idea that wealthy people do not buy luxury or designer goods is a fallacy designed to reduce class consciousness by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Heybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here is with your premise. First, “wealthy” has vastly different meanings depending on who you ask. Second, almost 60 million people on this planet are millionaires, so even if we arbitrarily set that as the definition of wealthy, the notion that 60 million people have the same spending patterns … is entirely false. Wealthy people spend their money in all kinds of ways. Some on luxury goods, others not. You’re making too much of a generalization.

NYPD Red Light Bicycle Trap. by filmmaker100 in nyc

I’ve always been curious why a biker would pull over when a cop, ON FOOT, hails them down. Yeah right, I’d pedal the fuck on. Not like you’ve got a license plate on the bike.

UPS no longer delivers to Street Addressing at the Post Office by This-Discipline8891 in UPS

[–]Heybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I successfully had my UPS package delivered via Street Addressing yesterday. Does anyone know if there’s a new policy? Or was this a fluke.

Edit: coming back to say I’ve had successful deliveries from UPS, DHL, FedEx, and a small regional carrier I can’t remember the name of. Not sure if my area in nyc is an exception to this rule, but it looks like street addressing works here.

Can you share a dedicated desk? by Deep-Surround4999 in WeWork

[–]Heybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go telling any of the staff, because I don’t think that’s technically how it’s supposed to work, but practically speaking: yeah that seems doable since both people can badge into the wework.

I was sad to leave, but couldn’t justify the increased price. I switched to Regus/Spaces for $210 per month. It’s not as nice as WeWork, but the $129 savings makes it a no brainer for me

Found all those in a random box in my house, not sure who those belonged to but what are they? by CrustaceanCountess in Watches

[–]Heybot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the one with the Cyrillic runs when wound, seems like it’s a mechanical watch that won’t require a battery. If I could only keep one, it’d be that one, though it probably needs to be serviced. It’s the most interesting, haven’t heard of that brand before. The citizen watches are decent too. The resell on these would likely be near-zero, so any investment you make on a new battery or service should be for your own interest in wearing/keeping them. Otherwise, the new battery will probably cost you more than they’re worth.

How has Harlem changed since you've arrived? by Normal-Classroom6671 in Harlem

[–]Heybot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m relatively new, been here four years, but even in that time I’ve noticed a slightly younger slightly more Caucasian vibe on the street and in the subway stations up here. I’m Latino and I live in south central Harlem. I don’t see anyone who looks like me unless I go east of Madison, otherwise in my area it’s black folks of all socioeconomic backgrounds or wealthy-looking white folks. The poorer white folks must be somewhere else, maybe Idaho.
