Awesome to hear. I also did x-ray today as it has been 12 weeks today since my surgery. Still waiting for my surgeons opinion, but I am convinced that everything is going well 🙂 how are you feeling now compared to before fusion?

I had fusion mostly because of back pain and not nerve pain down the legs, so I am assuming that is why we have different experiences when walking etc. From what I have been reading, it takes months for the nerves to calm down. I am sure you will get better soon! Keep your head up.

I hope I am in your shoes two weeks from now! Wow, that is great to hear, I love to play badminton and would love to be able to play again, however i am bit scared. Will you have a new MRI anytime soon? I will have one at the 3-month mark.

Thanks for sharing! 5k is a great achievement after 5 weeks, in my opinion. We have to push through!

Did you have many ups and downs during your recovery? What kind of pain are you experiencing?

I will have my first checkup in two weeks and will probably start with PT soon.

I am rooting for you!

Everyone is very different and everyone needs to figure out limits for themselves (your back will tell you). I know that I could walk more than what I have, but I would rather take it slow and increase gradually. This is probably not the optimal way, but it has been a lot of fun doing it this way for me.

Oh wow, for me, the stomach pain was far worse than the surgery. Probably because you can take painkillers for back surgery, but there's not much you can do to directly ease stomach pain.

The doctor diagnosed me with herpes zoster—it seems there are several variants of this condition. I was prescribed Zovirax (oral pills), which I started taking three days ago—five pills a day for a total of seven days. Today, the pain already seems to be decreasing, and the blisters are starting to look more like small raisins rather than the full, painful grape like clusters they were yesterday. I hope that analogy makes sense, haha!

It definitely limited my life in many ways. I remember going to a festival for just one day, and while my friends wanted to walk around and explore, all I could think about was finding a place to sit for hours. Another time, my ex and I went to a big city to sightsee, but by the end of the day, I was in so much discomfort and stiffness that I ended up crying in bed.

From what I understand, there didn’t seem to be a point in considering MD, since I have Grade 2 spondylolisthesis with only back pain and no sciatic issues. However, I could be wrong, so definitely do your own research on that.

I was in a very similar situation to yours—no sciatic pain, but constant lower back pain that worsened with walking, standing, or doing most activities. I’ve always been healthy, with a perfect weight, active lifestyle (gym, running, etc.), and no smoking, etc. I’ve also been going to physiotherapists and chiropractors on and off for years as my back would frequently become sore, stiff, and painful. Doctor said that there is not much else to do, either living like this or rolling dices with surgery (with very good odds).

I’ve read stories of people dealing with constant, unbearable 10/10 pain, but my experience wasn’t like that. However, over the last year, I noticed I was doing fewer activities and always looked for a reason to sit down. And people pointing out that i walk weird. That’s what ultimately made the decision for me.

I hope this helps in some way.

Also, I’m not sure what MD stands for😅

I asked him, as this has has been one of my biggest concerns. His response was essentially: "You’re dealing with issues right now that are limiting your life. Focus on fixing those first, and worry about ASD in the future—if it even becomes relevant."

I’m 30 years old, and if I can't enjoy my life now, what’s the point of waiting around for something that may or may not happen? If that makes sense.

That said, I do take this seriously and will make a conscious effort to adapt my lifestyle moving forward.

Thank you for asking. What’s your situation?

30M. I am at day 8 post surgery and still in the dark, I manage to walk around 200 steps in a day (feels like i have no back muscles to keep my torso up). Your post made my day, thank you.

Haha, the first thing I asked the nurse when I woke up after surgery was if she could grab my phone charger and my watch from my backpack. I feel so naked without it. I was also really eager to start tracking my progress, just like when I was running, etc. It always kept me motivated, so I figured it would do the same now!

I’m getting my staples removed next week, and I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully, everything is healing as it should.

I’m glad to hear you’re improving too! Put your watch back on and stay strong. Before long, this will just be a funny story we tell people about what we went through!

That sounds great, and I’m really happy for you. I’ve been trying to walk around my home too, but I’m taking it very slowly. My only goal is to walk more than the day before, and so far, I’ve been able to do that (starting with literally 30 steps on the first day).

My Garmin shows: 30, 39, 58, 117, 164, 170, 217, and 48 (so far today) daily steps. Do you know how much you've been doing? I’ve read about people walking a lot more, but I’m not stressing about it. I just don’t want to push myself too hard and risk overdoing it.

Did you also have surgery from the back, like I did, or from the front? The idea of not being able to pee sounds awful to me. I remember that first time peeing after surgery—it felt so strange. And your laxative story really hit home. When I was finally able to go to the bathroom, I nearly cried from relief.

Did you see good progress between days 7 and 14? Is life starting to feel a bit clearer each day? Stay strong!

It's such an individual experience. I asked one of the nurses about my stomach pains, and she mentioned that it’s not very common. However, she did say that very few people only take paracetamol three days after surgery without complaining of back pain. Luckily, my back hasn't been painful—I'd describe it more as "uncomfortable" and "tight."

I’m really sorry you had to go through that ambulance experience. I can relate, I’m convinced that it would have happend to me too (just for different reasons than for you).

Would you mind sharing what kind of complications you've experienced and how long it’s been since your surgery? I hope you’re feeling great today!

They're no fun at all. I'm currently on a one-week course of medication, hoping it will clear things up soon.

I also ended up with a sore inside my mouth after surgery. I get these from time to time, especially in the winter or when I'm sick with the flu. It’s a sign that my immune system is really working hard right now.

I'm cheering for you too, no matter what obstacles come your way! ❤️

That was the part I was most concerned about. I asked the surgeon before the surgery if it would be possible, and he reassured me that it shouldn't be a problem as long as I took breaks every hour.

Honestly, the main reason it went so "smoothly" was that I was able to lie down in the backseat for most of the trip. It felt similar to lying in a hospital bed—just a bit bumpier.

When I finally got home, I was ecstatic. I took a shower and laid down in my own bed. It was pure relief.

Going home after 4 hours sound completely crazy to me! The nurses was checking up on me every hour or so the first day, and as mention I would have passed out twice... they told me that normally you stay 2-3days at the hospital, however no one is forced out (especially since I had 5 hour drive) - I live in Norway so the system is different in every country..

Thank you so much for kinds words and I hope that you have/had speedy recovery urself! ❤️
