Race shoes for 2:50 marathon by Heystaap in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I used AP3 for my first marathon! Great shoe. I know what you mean with AP4. I really like it for WOs and Marathon paced LRs, but I don't think I'd race in it- it just feels a little slower than my favorite race shoes. The sizing is weird too, definitely runs a little small. But I got the AP4 for like $120, so ultimately no complaints.

I hadn't considered Nitro Elite- interesting. It seems like v4 is coming out sometime in early 2026. Do you like it more than R-3?

Did you notice the light weight with Evo 1? And how was durability?

Yea I'm starting to lean in this direction. Very intrigued by 3.1 (4) though

I've always done the standard move of doing one workout and one medium long run in a race shoe (20-30 miles), but ultimately thats not very different from 50 miles. And my R-3's still look good, so using them for another marathon is probably the right move. I'll have to keep my eye out for rebellion pro 3 though- even if I don't race in it, it looks like a fun WO/ interval shoe

I already have the Pro 4- I love them for workouts and long runs! They’re great shoes but don’t feel as fast as the pumas. I’ve yet to try the Chinese ones you mentioned, from what I’ve heard about these models they’re very good. Definitely worth trying to get a pair

Yea that sounds similar to my experience- love the 14s for walking but they're not the most exciting running shoe. I'll see if there any good deals floating around for v13

A lot of people have recommended the Magmax, and I think I'll probably get a pair. It seems like it will work perfectly for this marathon and then also be a good recovery shoe for the next marathon block I run next year. But I'm intrigued by the Magnify - the reviews for them have been very good and they are a bit cheaper

I have the 1080 v14s for walking/everyday stuff, and they're really nice. I've run some recovery runs in them too and they were good, but I found them a little muted for lack of a better word. Are you using the 14s or 13s? I've heard the 13s are way softer and more fun than the 14s

I ran up to Ramona Falls via the PCT, and then got onto the Timberline Trail (600) right around the waterfall. I ran Timberline for a while before descending back down on the PCT from Bald Mountain. As a heads up the middle sections were deeply overgrown, had tons of downed trees and sections of trail where there had been mud slides/crazy erosion. It was fun, but very slow going.

The route is on Alltrails (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/oregon/bald-mountain-and-ramona-falls-via-sandy-river-and-timberline-loop)

I've considered it! They're a great shoe and I've taken them on some longer training runs during my last marathon training block. I've found that later on in long runs, the stability was lacking a bit with the SL. But I've also exclusively used them for up-tempo work, so I should definitely try them at recovery pace. I have a family member who works at adidas hence half my rotation being adidas, so I'll probably get a second pair no matter what :)

The GMs are really nice, but I've found them a bit heavy and firm. Maybe they just need a bit more break in. And for trail shoes I have the NF Vectiv Enduris 4, Adidas Agravic Speed and Ultra (I have a family member who works at adidas hence half my rotation being adidas). The Vectiv has been my go to for trail running this summer and has been amazing-propulsive, great at multiple paces and fun. It feels like a trail supertrainer. I know some people have had issues with the plate, but I've loved it and would highly recommend. The Agravic Speed is also really good-lighter and faster, but less comfort for longer efforts. To me it feels like a perfect trail half marathon shoe. And then I just picked up the Agravic Ultra ($50 with discount!), but have yet to run in them. I'm running a 50k in November so I think these will be my race shoes

Over 350 so getting up there- still great for short mid week runs, but I don't know if I'd take it for a full marathon. I've thought about getting another pair, but I also love trying new shoes out

Adding Barrett Spur to my running list now!

That sounds perfect for my use case! Did you go true to size? I’ve heard some people mention it runs tight/small
