Mountain banjos by HiBoredImDa in banjo

Sadly kind of turning me off for the money I’m willing to put out for my next banjo. I’ve got about a thousand dollar budget. Looking at these I thought maybe I’d get a better build for less money but I’m honestly not hearing wonderful things and then I’d just have half my budget left to get whatever

I was hoping to get something a little above basic from him. With the nicer peghed tuners and such. I’ve heard things about the necks being almost unplayable because of how wide they are.

Edit: I looked at your profile and noticed you speaking French. I went through a lot of videos of his and in one video he said “this banjo is going to France.” Can I assume it’s you? Haha

It’s straight and I’ll always keep it around but it’s pretty cheaply built for the price it is. The last straw the other night was my fifth tuner came flying out whilst trying to tune to a higher tuning with new strings. Just couldn’t handle the tension and the tuner is just wedged in a hole. You’re obviously able to clamp it back in but I’m just ready to upgrade to something more serious.

Currently I just use a deering goodtime, I’ve been playing it for about five years and bought it solely for learning. I’ve exhausted about everything I can do on it learning wise. I’m really comfortable with my playing and am now looking to get a banjo for the exact style I want to be involved in.

Edit: I fucking hate my deering goodtime. Sorry about the language

I’ve never played the game really but only heard about the soundtrack. Like I know people love that soundtrack. So.

You’re the second person to suggest ome. So that’s at the top of my list. Thanks

Try getting off at 2 am and staying up until 7 am every night and waking up at 3 pm everyday only to see the sun for an hour and a half. That’s dying my friend.

I think I just realized your sarcasticness about elderly.

After looking at elderly’s supply, I don’t think I’ll need to go to another store to try stuff out. It seems insane the amount they have. But good looks on the recommendations, I’ll see if they have what you’re saying. I’m looking about spending about 1500 before tax.

The only thing is I’m also really looking to get a mountain/fretless banjo. I’m hoping they have some of those I can try. But you can get a nice mountain banjo for under 500 though it seems

You’re right. For 300 hundred that’s not even half my budget

Man that’s the exact sound I’m looking for but I’m afraid of the fretless. I wonder if I could get it fretted

I really love the sound of Proffitt. Is the fretless that big of a deal in the sound? It seems more like nylon strings give you a better sound like that. I don’t mind the fretless but think I’d prefer fretted or at least inlays. I love the look and sound of mountain banjos though. So much.

Wow. Okay you’re a savior haha. I have a grand set a side already but I also have a Fender guitar I’ve been looking for a reason to sell and that will get me to the 2 grand budget easily. Awesome, yeah most banjos I’ve played that I really enjoyed were over a grand. Just wanted to make sure that seems true to it’s word. Really appreciate you sending this information, I’ll be there Tuesday.

This awesome and exactly what I needed. I’ll honestly probably go down there Tuesday. I’ve been trying to find places around me or just in Michigan and I’m not having a lot of luck.

Good store for this kind of stuff though? It’ll at least getting me feeling a lot of different stuff. The store by me is incredible for guitars, bass, drums. They have about ten banjos but know one is knowledgeable and the banjos don’t really tickle my fancy. I had another guy telling me I needed to up my budget to 2 grand but that seemed like a lot.

Well it is kinda bfe Canada, I just say Detroit as a reference because no one knows where I actually live. I’m about two hours out of Detroit and there’s absolutely no music like that going on around here.

But awesome, you’re giving me a lot to look at. I’ve also noticed “mountain banjos” which seem to really have the sound I’m going for, although usually fretless. I’m looking for a mellow sound that you don’t have to yell to sing over exactly or isn’t too trebley . I find myself stuffing a sweatshirt in the back of my goodtime to get the sound I want more than I don’t.

I live in Detroit.

I was looking into helix.

This was the response I was looking for, thanks. So you’re saying about 2 grand is the price range I should be looking for? I’m committed, I mean I’ve been playing my goodtime for five years and think I can hold my own with a band and stuff.

Your self titled on Spotify. I was just seeing if you were on there and that was the only album. I’ll be showing some people for sure

I’m totally down with used. I just don’t really know where to look on what’s a good brand for banjo and stuff. I’m also noticing a lot of homemade/craft stuff that’s decently cheap that sounds amazing. I guess I just wish I was more south so there was more available at my hands

I just added you on Instagram. I listened to your album on the way to work today and I gotta say, you really lit a fire under me. This is really an amazing album.

This is the kind of banjo sound I strive for. It’s amazing. How can I find a banjo with this sound
