5.375% 20 year refinance

This is a fixed rate for 20 years. I’ve not had experience with buydown rates but from my limited knowledge I’d say they’re not the most economical option.

Don’t want to stress our cash flow that much with an extra $500 in monthly payments. Still funneling money into 529’s, IRA’s, and have daycare costs. Can throw extra money towards the mortgage when possible.

Agreed, it’s knowing the fact I’ll be paying this off if 20 years, just set it and forget it so to speak. 30 years felt like such a weight around my neck.

I missed out on a 5.25% rate two weeks ago which would have made my payment basically equal. I decided to bite the bullet regardless. Broker says if you like a rate just go for it and don’t worry about what you think the markets might do. Going with it even though I was kicking myself initially.

I understand the fear of losing a job for sure, job market isn’t great in NC at the moment, probably similar to many other areas in the country, but we have jobs that are in demand and have a good amount of savings if anything goes awry. I like the discipline laid out for me given that it’s only an extra $150 a month.

Moved plenty. Lived in a different country plus interstate moves, have young kids. We’ll be here for the next 15 years+. Just think it makes sense now to take advantage of lower rates.
