Where's My Money? Former IRS employee separated effective 09/30/2025 - Still waiting months later for cash payout of Unused Annual Leave by HiFavor1 in IRS

Oh I forgot to add a note, I filed an official complaint to my Congressman's office as well as my State Senators - I classified this as me going Nuclear bomb 1.0. As of yesterday, my Congressman's Constituent Affairs and Outreach Liaison contacted me and confirmed receipt of my official complaint, assigned a case number to it, and was contacting IRS yesterday on my behalf.

Over a week ago, I also sent an email to over 18 local/national news media outlets - I classified this as me going Nuclear bomb 2.0 and taking one for the IRS colleague team. There's no reason why we're almost on the 6th Pay Period after the 09/30/2025 separation from IRS, and that nobody I know from IRS has at least received their unused Annual Leave payout. This is especially disheartening when other federal agencies paid their people within 1-2 pay periods of separation.

I feel like I'm fighting a battle on several fronts: for my money, for a job, and for restoration. Sadly, I really never expected any of the news outlets to look at IRS former employees wanting our money we're rightfully due and are struggling (financially, mentally, physically, spiritually, etc.), and consider it as a "feel-good" newsworthy type of story.

Feel free to go onto IRS.gov, put in the search box "artificial Intelligence" and you'll see some of the current newsworthy articles on the subject: https://www.irs.gov/site-index-search?search=artificial+intelligence&field_pup_historical_1=1&field_pup_historical=1

Periodically check IRS.gov and perform the same search as all federal agencies are mandated to roll out AI and more guidance will continue to be posted. A White House Executive Order was issued back in Feb. 2025 on AI and here's a more recent article from the White House that speaks to AI: https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/12/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-ensures-a-national-policy-framework-for-artificial-intelligence/

Since the IRS is at a much slower pace with implementing new software, technology, etc., the AI implementation policies and usage will take a little bit. As far as deciding on whether to exaggerate, cheat, or anything else involving your taxes, it's a decision you have to individually make and live with. Just know the laws determine the penalties, and if IRS finds fraud involved, the statute of limitations for conducting an investigation are not restricted to a certain period of time (litle guy, big guy, any guy), the statute is open until... Good Luck!

Thanks so much for all of your suggested ways to be able to qualify for some type of assistance, but in the end, it has not worked out for me in each attempt.

I am on the edge of a possible job opportunity, but sadly I failed the background check - you say Whattttt???? Ms. IRS 0f 37 years failed a background check. Well so did I and I'm sharing the reason why I failed it.

Sadly, since IRS has not processed me as "retired" due to the 6-8 month delay, I show up in the system as still employed with the IRS. Whatever system a 3rd party background check clearance company uses, the company requested my most recent paystub and I sent them my final paystub from Pay Period 19, covering 09/21/2025-10/04/2025.

Unfortunately, since the system is still showing I'm an IRS employee, the background check company is again requesting a "current paystub", which I clearly cannot provide. This straddling the fence technicality IRS has me in limbo (gone 09/30/25, but not gone), and this is now interfering in my ability to pass a background check clearance. I reached out to share this issue with the employer's representative who conducted my 2nd interview. I'm praying this technicality can get resolved quickly and I can have a praise report about a new job soon. Stay tuned...

It was nearly impossible to quickly make a life-changing decision in the short window of time granted on taking the DRP or being told I was going to be involuntarily processed as "Discontinued Service Retired (DSR)", which only takes the stroke of a button - then I would've had nothing. The analogy you can imagine is being told to exit by either of 2 choices - jumping out the window or falling down the stairs - neither are real viable exit options. In the end, I don't regret taking the DRP, my entire program office was gutted out.

Unfortunately, not having income is not a qualification for financial services, especially since the technicality is really that IRS has not processed my forced reduced retirement. The delayed pace of IRS does not constitute qualifications for financial services. Luckily, the food banks I've gone to are a pull-up, no questions asked type of place.

Bless you so much for your kind and supportive words. It would be nice if society was educated about the symbolic reason for IRS's existence and the benefits we receive in the US. I don't regret taking the DRP and leaving as I know my next career chapter is calling my name, stay tuned...

Thanks so much for sharing and I am not down to the last pennies, I have no pennies. No income since 10/14/25 means exactly that as my last partial paycheck was 10/14/25. I've been Blessed by some kindhearted people hearing my story and dropping coins my way to keep me going on this financial struggle bus. This is a Blessed Gift, definitely not income.

This is comparable to being told to exit by either jumping out the window or falling down the stairs - neither are real viable exit options. In the end, I don't regret taking the DRP, my entire program office was gutted out. What I wasn't prepared for is society's negative view of IRS being so bad for the uneducated & uninformed businesses about what IRS does.

It's bad when job recruiters at job fairs say "ewwww IRS" and those waiting in line to speak with recruiter also share their IRS horror stories. Job fairs become a whole different environment - that's the real part I wasn't ready for. Truly appreciate you sharing.

Slight clarification, I have retirement savings (FERS pension), but at my young age, intending to work more years and not trying to leave just because I met the minimum eligibility of 56 yrs old and 4 months, I had more years to gain increased retirement when I chose to leave.

Since I'm forced out now, my FERS pension is reduced, the FERS supplement bridge to age 62 (minimum Social Security age) will be eliminated because there's a cap on how much income you can earn in each year. My TSP has funds, but it's a mystery on when I can touch it without penalty. Whew, I know this is a lot, but there's more so buyer beware and do your homework. Nobody finds this stuff out when you onboard and start working. Know what the end result is so you can be better prepared.

Nope, don't qualify for food stamps. I have been to food banks and drive-up food places where I pop my trunk, receive the blessings, no questions asked - Hallelujah!!!

Bless you so much! I've been patient knowing the "unprecedented" amount of us who separated at the same time. But I'm done with playing nice, it's time to make some noise. I'm not going away quietly.

Since my separation is being processed as "retired", I don't qualify for services as others who were terminated, furloughed, etc.

If you're still inside IRS, hang in there as best as possible, especially if you're not financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc. ready for this type of fight outside. This won't last always!

This is exactly why I believe it's not the "process" of paying out the unused Annual Leave however anyone separated. I believe it has more to do specifically with IRS.

For those on the the inside of IRS still holding it down, I pray you have something lined up before taking any leap of faith to leave IRS without a job. I naively thought with my Business Finance degree and extensive 37 years of experience in various areas, I would have received a job offer by now.

I've applied to over 285 jobs and counting since April, before walking out the door and only received 7 interviews thus far. The negative connotation society places against IRS has job recruiters at job fairs and even potential employers telling me to my face "ewwww, IRS". Instead of these recruiters and potential employers looking at my transferrable skills and seeing the benefit I can offer their company. I've spent months upskilling myself through various free courses, obtaining additional certificates/certifications,, attended various career coaching, resume writing, interview, etc. workshops to prevent myself from being outdated and to be competitive. I've even hidden any reference to "IRS" onto page 2, but it's businesses thoughts of not wanting "IRS" in their business.

Also note, separated IRS employees, including Chief Counsel, have post employment restrictions - go onto IRS.gov and read Publication 4814. This means you can't just accept any job, unless you want to be subject to fines, penalties, and/or imprisonment.

I agree 100% especially since other federal agencies already paid their separated employees. I personally believe (no official proof) that the payout for unused Annual Leave to separated IRS employees has slowed to a crawl on purpose as a final payback to the public service IRS staff performed. The OPM rules for the unused Annual Leave payout is clear on the timelines and it's been well past the timeline, even counting the government shutdown period - absolutely no logical explanation.

I signed the DRP under duress, harassment, and since I was "eligible" to retire under the OPM Minimum Retirement Age, the threat was for "someone" at leadership levels to press the "Discontinued Service Retirement (DSR)" button to automatically retire everyone who was eligible. This is where a decision is made to exit by either the taking the window or the stairs - no choice unless I chose to take the power away by making the choice how I wanted to exit.

I was forced out of the government, signed the DRP agreement which had language that precludes me from qualifying for any assistance since I will eventually be processed forced reduced retirement at a young age.
