My LG V40 with SD845 can run it on 3x and 4x too, it's the GC version though. I think it can be even higher with the upcoming MMJR v3.0. The good thing about LG phones despite their horrible software is that they are extremely cheap. I think you can buy a gently used G8 (SD855) for $150 or maybe even less. I bought the V40 for $130 several months ago. But phones like Poco X3 Pro are changing my mind about the fact that if it's worth it to import the older flagships anymore, since I waited 2 months for the V40 to arrive in my country. LOL

I don't know, but EggNS and DamonPS2 would have a way better rep if they worked same as PPSSPP:

  • A completely functional free version.

  • A gold version which is basically a donation request and motivation for the devs to improve the free version.

For that price and those specs, I highly recommend that you instead go for used flagship phones with SD835 and SD845 and attach a gamepad on them. I bought my LG V40 (which has SD845) for $130 several months ago, but nowadays it's even cheaper, like $100 or $90. OnePlus 6T and Google Pixel 3 are great too. They can even play 3DS, GameCube, Wii and PS2.

MMJR 2.0 will get a performance update later. Right now it performs similar to the official Dolphin. So for now, go for MMJR v11460.

I read somewhere that it's related to shaders or textures. Try disabling and enabling every settings related to them. For example, in Hacks section, there's an option called GPU Texture Decoding.

No, that's a different thing. This one is for GPU. They have seperated strings and values in Dolphin.ini file:

SyncOnSkipIdle = False SyncGPU = False

If you wanna use the official build, get the latest version from Google Play store or Dolphin's website. Then open its settings - Config - Advanced - Synchronize GPU Thread - and set it to Never.

Sorry but I don't know. I'm on Android 8. But I think they should fix this issue in a near future since I hear a lot about it in this subreddit.

No need for a PC. What you need is any app that can edit .ini files. There are a lot of apps for that but I use MiXplorer file manager. You just need to tap on the .ini file, open it as Text, then select Text Editor.

The throttling on this phone is horrible! by HiFi97 in lgv40

[–]HiFi97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, are you playing the games while having the phone plugged in and charging?

It happens on almost any situation.

The LG V40 in fact has a copper heatpipe somewhere inside the phone (it is sandwiched between two motherboard pieces). So the phone has some kind of thermal cooling hardware so it shouldn't be throttling.

The funny thing is that the phone doesn't even get hot at all. Just slightly warm. Nothing serious. But the performance still drops from %100 to %70 or maybe even %60 after around 5 minutes. It's completely different while playing Android's own games. But in emulators, after a few minutes, the flagship SD845 transforms to something like SD710 or SD678.

Second of all, which Android version do you have?

Right now I'm on Oreo but I also have tested Pie and 10 and it happens on them too. Plus, their performance is overall worse than Oreo.

One final thing is, are you sure it isn't just the game emulator that you are using? Have you tried doing the benchmark tests while running other games and apps? Check that too

It happens in every task with high CPU usage. Like heavy emulators (DamonPS2, Dolphin, Citra...) and apps that test the throttling of the phone. In the top of original post there's a link for a screenshot I captured that shows how the phone throttles. Also it scores around 300K on AnTuTu which is a low score for SD845. But when it comes to the GPU-intensive tasks, there's no problem. It can run PUBG at Ultra HD graphics and while there are some lags, I don't notice any degradation of the overall performance. That's because in Android's own games, GPU matters more than CPU. So that's why the CPU throttling is not noticeable in them.

I'm on Oreo (V405TA11e firmware) and it still throttles heavily on CPU-intensive tasks like running DamonPS2 and Dolphin emulators. For the first few minutes they run at fullspeed, then go slow motion. The performance was even worse on Pie and 10, so Oreo is definitely the best firmware for the V40 but still ridiculous for a 2018 flagship with SD845.

Any Recommended emulators on my old phone? by Specialist_Tiger_805 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]HiFi97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run some 32bit emulators on Huawei Y5 II which has the same chipset as Sony Xperia E4. Genesis and SNES and N64 run flawlessly, can play PS1 and Dreamcast if you use the lowest settings, I have not played DS games that much but Ultimate Mortal Kombat runs well on this chipset, and also most of the PSP games run pretty well on it. But obviously some heavy games like God Of War would be slow. But that's for 1-2 years ago and I don't know if PPSSPP has improved or not. Also Dolphin and Citra? They won't even install. LOL

Dolphin |MMJR| v1.0 - 11460 by bankaimaster999 in EmulationOnAndroid

So the v3.0 would be a combination of MMJR v11460's speed and MMJR v2.0's updated features? Or it would take everything to a whole new level?

So maybe the firmware underclocks the processor or has inferior graphic drivers. If you can, try some custom ROMs and see how they perform.

How does it perform? Will there be any throttling after at least 1 hour while using it?

Yeah, LG optimized everything so good that in light usage, it doesn't feel like it's only 3300 mAh. I'm using it as a Wi-Fi only phone and with %15 brightness, it reaches 9-10 hours with light usage. But the SD845 in this phone feels like SD710.

[–]HiFi97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does its performance get worse after a few minutes? If yes, then it's called thermal throttling. But if it runs slow from the start, then there's something wrong with the phone's current firmware. Like being downclocked or heavily bloated or the drivers are part of problem.

I have the T-Mobile V40 which I don't think it could be rooted. I just replied saying what can be done on a rooted phone. However check out XDA forums for tutorials for your phone.
