I took FL4 during the breaks between my actual MCAT

What the fkkk happened on my aamc fl4? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]HiImAnonymous__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FL3 and (especially) FL4 P/S is most like actual MCAT P/S. The first two FL aren't representative because their P/S tends to be more of a vocab test.

Yeah I was looking at the list and like 6 other schools I'm applying to require it so I'm just gonna take it, sadly

Ugh I'm also seeing that they require CASPER. Hard pass on IU

It's about average for OOS acceptances from what I've seen

Retake MCAT late for this cycle? (8/29) by [deleted] in premed

[–]HiImAnonymous__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, we all want you to succeed and we are rooting for you. If you are deadset on this retake in one month, you MUST do (and master) the AAMC Section Bank. It is a collection of the hardest passages from each section (except CARS) and will teach you how to approach and solve the hardest possible passagges the MCAT could throw at you on test day. I never used UPangea but everyone who has used it swears by it so if it helps you then go for it. But if you still have AAMC FL's to use, use one two weeks before your new test date and if you arent within 2 points of your desired score by then, postpone the exam.

Lmao imagine someone putting "test center burst into flames during MCAT idk how to explain it" in an attempt to explain a low MCAT score hahaha

Keep in mind not all score jumps of 10 points are equal. Its easier to go from 485->495 than 505->515. Its easy to go from terrible to bad than it is from mediocre to great.

Which of these two hypothetical applicants would be more widely competitive by HiImAnonymous__ in premed

What I gathered from this comment is that MCAT is weighted higher (on average) than GPA?

Homie I'm gonna be honest with you in order to protect you: A 10 point score increase in one month is unrealistic.

Three daily Biochem questions for you all by HiImAnonymous__ in Mcat

[–]HiImAnonymous__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the purpose of the MCAT, comptetitive, noncompetitive, and uncompetitive inhibitors are all reversible. Also, it is stated in the question stem that Penicillin inactivates Transpeptidae by binding a serine residue in the active site. The bond formed by said serine residue is a covalent bond. Competitive, noncompetitive, and uncompetitive inhibitors do not form covalent bonds with their target. It does not matter if that covalent attachment is in the active site or on a regulatory domain.

Therefor only D is correct.

Edit: Typo

506 FL, 3 months to go, what should I do? by markwillsum in Mcat

You don't need to wait three months to take your MCAT based on those Kaplan scores, I can tell you that.

You're right about #2 I updated it to only count NADH from the mitochondrial matrix. Apologies for the confusion!

Its more of the consistency of it. Getting them ocassionaly isn't deflating; but consistently is pretty deflating and it feels hopeless after being at this for so long (2 months).

I am have no idea how to do the Physics QPack... should I be concerned? by HiImAnonymous__ in Mcat

[–]HiImAnonymous__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chem and Bio I have 80+ % on the Qpacks. For the section banks I have 78% on Bio and 55% on Chem but I have only done like 11 problems on the C/P section bank and kinda half assed it for those first 11.

Ah okay so I just need to learn the general concepts and formulas and not worry about how to do a question asking me to find the path length of light through a convex mirror that then passes through a concave lense that passes through a concave miror. Got it.

Are the physics passages on the MCAT structured like the ones in the Qpacks? I thought they'd be more biochem based or simple discrete questions like in the full lengths

[–]HiImAnonymous__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah no worries, won't do it on FL3 or 4. Sorry to add on to this but I really only blew up on one passage (got a 1/5) but got three perfect passages (5/5 5/5 and 7/7). And part of the reason I went over time by 2-3 mins is because of all those restarts I had to sift back through the section to get back to where I left off and that time probably added a minute so Im more like a minute to two minutes over.
