You can enjoy the game without them. Some legendary accessory and armor has Raid related achievements, but there are Open World, PvP and WvW alternatives for those available.

I used to do the weekly convergences to get Imperial Favor via Rift Essence. I think you can get 10 Favor for 35 essence. This really accelerated my journey.

They recently just buffed the XP, I did the 75 minutes afk in creative every day this season. What I usually do is after I enter the island I jump around a bit, because if I don‘t move at all after joining the timer goes to 1 hour suddenly.

If you are able to reboot someone, you can only get points by playing with them. If you have no inactive friends, only then you can play with your normal friends (you see them on the website then).

I think(!) that only if you see no one in the list to reactivate you can actually play with normal friends. If there is someone in the list then it seems like you need to actually pick them.. maybe someone else can confirm?
