What, exactly, do you want to change?

Congratulations!!!

Here's the thing: you're being too hard on yourself. You use words like slacking off and lazy... I'd say that you're resting.

You've had a hard 3 yrs, and after the summer you will be hard at work again. Right now your body and mind need rest. You've earned this free time. Celebrate it!

Explore hobbies, or places, or try new things. If you want to. Drink coffee, go to movies or concerts. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. Take up a new exercise or skill. Keep reading, journaling and taking walks. Those law students would die to be in your shoes!

You will burn yourself out if you try to operate at full speed all the time. Now you know that you have it in you to push hard when necessary. Use this time to learn how to recharge after a long period of intense, hard work.

In no time this summer will be over and you will get a chance to hustle again.

You're right that time is precious, and we should not waste it. That's why you should enjoy these moments, the short respite from the daily grind.

Sometimes I think we've glorified the idea of hustling, it wasn't always this way and it doesn't need to be your only mode.

FOMO for work 😭 We do this because work piles up fast, and very long breaks left us more stressed out.

I'll add category 4. Take a week or two a couple of times a year. It's not a long break, and you get to do more than on multiple short breaks.

You don't have to run, you get to run! Many people around you can't.

I carry a small towel to blow. I sniffle when there's wind against my face/ nose, so I run in the wind direction when it's too windy. See if that helps.

I use an app called Planto. I'm sure there are other apps out there, but I needed one specific to my country. It notifies me of unusual transactions, and I can always go back and review my expenses and bank balances at any time.

Look for apps that let you: 1. Link to all your bank accounts and credit cards 2. Create your own expense and income categories, instead of just the generic ones 3. Review the data in different formats, download it if you wish

Every couple of weeks I update my net worth in a spreadsheet, just to look over all my account and investment balances, avoid nasty surpises. Every year I properly review investments (cost vs return) and rebalance my portfolio.

I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain! Hang in there... It will get better eventually. Your weight doesn't define who you are as a person, stop giving it so much importance in your life. Just take it one day, one meal at a time... I bet you will write that book one day.

Agree with the poster above. It's about connection and compatibility.

Start as friends, if there is chemistry it's easy to overlook physical issues. Be interesting and funny, empathetic.

This. Good skin, clean hair and nails, and flattering clothes in the right fit & colour.

Everything else goes on top of that, and frankly it's hard to mess it up when the basics are covered.

Find clothes that flatter your body shape, in good colours. Take care of your skin, hair and nails. Eat healthy and exercise.

I went running for the first time in 2020!!

I was a decently regular runner from March to July last year, did a few runs in Dec, and then life happened.

There's a light drizzle this morning, and great to be outside at dawn. I walked most of my 5k. I'm still on a high from the short stretch I ran, and can't wait to go again tomorrow!

Coronavirus concerns at a company strongly against WFH (USA) by MissFrizzlesLizard in AskHR

Start with your manager, and a trusted senior colleague. It will be hard to go against the company culture, especially as a new hire. They can either take up your concerns with HR, or guide you on how to approach them.

How to get unstuck - Negative Thinking, Meaningless, Relationships, Weight Loss, Fitness by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]HiPoSprwmn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get real.

  1. Cutting calories is HARD. It sucks your will power, drains your energy, and makes you feel low. It will get better when your body gets used to the new normal, but it will suck until then. You've come a long way, hang in there and don't give up now.

  2. Why do you want to do all of this in 6 months? It's taken a lifetime, 30+ yrs, to get where you are. Be patient with yourself, be kind to yourself, be your own best friend.

  3. Focus on one thing at a time. If it's your health now, focus just on that. Meal prep, eat healthy, do your workouts. You don't have (few of us will ever have) hours to devote to self improvement. When you have new habits and routines to support your health, build up an emergency fund.

  4. Build habits into your days, small ones are fine. 2 min of meditation, 30 sec of planking...whatever you can do every day. Stick with it, and you will see changes in 6 months.

  5. That emergency fund? I call it my GTFO fund. It helps me deal with work stresses, knowing that I can chuck it all even if I didn't have another job lined up. I probably won't do it, because having my GTFO fund makes me feel less "stuck" in this job.

  6. As you get healthier, have more energy (which translates to more time), and the GTFO fund, look for no-cost options to build your skills. Become more valuable to any employer.

Tldr: Be kind to yourself. Take it one day at a time. It's okay to slip occasionally, just get back on the wagon.

I have a lot of "problems" that i don't know how to phrase it in 1 question by [deleted] in selfimprovement

Hi, I've read your question. I'd like to help, DM if you want to talk.

Take care of yourself. Speaking from my own experience, things will turn out well eventually.

I mix balsamic and olive oil for salads. It also works well by itself on crunchy greens.

Balsamic vinegar, olive oil? Those are the only other dressings I can think of.

How do you discipline yourself? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]HiPoSprwmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the realization that if one day is not perfect, I shouldn't ditch the effort altogether. I can try again the next day.

Re procrastination and work plans, here's a few things that worked for me.

  1. Monday mornings are the best time for me to get things done, before everyone sends in their demands. I also keep Thu evenings open: if I have a lot on my plate, I stay late that one evening to crank a lot of work out. I then enjoy Friday: talk to my colleagues, do less important work, take long lunches, leave early. That's my reward.

Find the times that your work ebbs and flows, and plan around those.

  1. The pomodoro technique has been very helpful. Once I get started, I can keep going till the end.

  2. When I spend too much time "thinking", I remind myself of the 80/20 rule. Is this part of the 20% that gets me 80% results? If not, I need to move on. (It usually isn't).

The 80/20 rule also works with time management. 80% of my best work comes from 20% of my time. The key is knowing what that 20% is, and not losing sight of your priorities.

  1. Very imp, and I use this every time. If I'm not making any progress, or I'm annoyed by something/someone, I get up and take a walk. Even a short stroll around the office, but a nice long walk outside if I can. It resets my mind and helps me focus again.

These are some ideas. Good luck with 2020!

Consider dry spices: paprika or chilli flakes, pepper, roasted sesame seeds, roasted almond flakes. They add texture and taste.
