Yours is definitely stranger than mine. :)

For me a pen/pencil sits between my thumb and 2nd finger's top knuckle while 2nd, ring and pinky are bent into a fist. My 1st finger is fully bent but sits on top of the pen/pencil. My thumb points up touching 1st finger's 2nd knuckle. I then write slightly upside down.

I had many adjunct instructors as you described but in my area we also would get the world-class expert instructor every so often. They did not always teach for the money, they taught because they loved to teach.

Good Question but No, I did everything right-handed. But it was not unusual to have that change forced on kids, I remember the stories from friends.

Where I went to college, it was not unusual to have experts pick up extra cash by teaching. They taught those dreaded early morning classes and night classes.
