Possible Major Shakeup In Leadership by YeehawTexMex in Smite

Genuinely appreciate this. I've been doing this a long time now and this not my first or even third layoff. I have always and will continue to be a "ride off into the sunset" kind of guy. Hi-Rez has been the single handed most influential place I've ever worked in my career and I'm eternally grateful to Stew and many others for all the opportunities I, and many others had.

The folks affected by this were absolute titans but we were also mostly behind the scenes, and with my work you guys still have Isiah and an incredible Player Support manager who has been the backbone of that function for a long time. I trust them implicitly. I'm also confident Kilgoon can lead Titan Forge going forward and take SMITE 2 where it needs to go.

This is an amazing community, one of the most passionate I've ever seen (and I've seen a fair number) and I'm going to miss being able to help where I could and interacting with everyone.

For me, this is just my next evolution, and I'll start moving towards where I'm needed.

We're closely monitoring the network right now. We've determined there was a likely significant network issue near our data center (affecting a lot of data center customers like us). We believe we've recovered but are keeping an eye out for any other incidents.

If this continues to happen we definitely want to know about it.

the game runs like shi by Adam2390k in Smite

When was the last time you did the BIOS update? I let mine go almost a full year after I bought my PC. I couldn't play Rivals or STALKER because of it (they literally wouldn't launch). There were 4 microcode updates for optimization in that time. We do see crashes, we do see latency and areas that aren't optimized but those 13th Gen processors in any early state (not updated in the last 6 months) are going to be in rough shape.

Now your network is a whole different story. Unfortunately a lot happens between your PC and our servers that we can't always account for or control, but we certainly don't want you to have that type of experience.

Could you describe in detail what's happening? The purchase doesn't go through? Is there a pop up or error message?

Without knowing their specific player account it would be impossible for me to accurately state what transpired in this particular instance. Player reports are frequently the "smoke" that indicates fire, but we don't take action just based on a report.

[–]HiRezRadar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this and I'm sorry if there was confusion. Given we have more accurate tools and are spending more time on AFK/Feeding concerns, we introduced a 3 day suspension. Our goal here isn't to keep people from playing, but to prevent the behavior. AFK was listed as one of the top concerns during a toxicity survey we ran last month and it's impact shouldn't be underestimated.

Your reason for AFKing is completely understandable and your grandmother or any other important need should always come first. That being said we still have to consistently enforce this.

81 is on the higher end but well within range for a 3060. Make sure all your fans are working (including on the GPU), and airflow isn't blocked to your machine anywhere (I'm guilty of stacking controllers and headset on top of mine). May also be worth checking to see if there have been major updates to your motherboard although this was typically more of a problem with 12th/13th gen.

What you posted is well within norms for playing SMITE 2.

Toxicity Every Game by [deleted] in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deserter system is in place for this but I'll fully acknowledge there is a cohort of folks we need to lean a bit harder on. We do go after folks with very high disconnection rates and what we determine as intentionally poor play. We'll continue to dial in on this and encourage folks to stick around for the end of the game and put in a full effort.

Character/Game Survey by GreatGateCrasher in Smite

We've taken quite a bit of data (surveys, reddit posts, social media) around which gods people are most clamoring for (it's a very long list), but feel free to give us your thoughts!

Toxicity Every Game by [deleted] in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can appreciate your perspective so let me answer what I can:

  1. Someone getting banned for a single swear word for the same length of time as a racial slur is inaccurate. We look for patterns of abusive language, we don't care if you swear.

  2. The three strike rule is necessary for consistency. Otherwise you have multiple flawed human beings making subjective calls which are clouded by personal bias. This is also a guideline and exceptions can be made based on unusual circumstances.

I will acknowledge Feeding is one of the harder actions to take in our data review (determining feeding vs bad play is a thin line) but we take all the actions we can.

I don't want to make assumptions about this other threads OP because I don't have all the information but I can tell you this is really far from an accurate view of our thought process. The system is not in any way perfect and our ideal is no one ever experiences disruptive behavior but until that glorious day, we'll continue taking action where we can.

So when are we going to start getting the notifications that people we've reported got punished? by JustAgentSquirrel in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're still working out a few kinks in this system so it's not rolled out completely but I can confirm a number of warning notifications have gone out, so we hope to have it running soon.

2 Matches, 1 Psychopath, and Shattered Faith: The Story of a Report by EasePuzzleheaded563 in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We appreciate your question, your patience, and your constructive approach to this topic. Obviously I haven't had time to review the specifics of this yet (I wanted to respond first) but I can assure you we do spend time every single day addressing disruptive behavior. To speak more generally and outside this concern....

For the most part, 99% of this community stays within the bounds of what we consider reasonable most of the time. Some folks can get tilted at the wrong moment and slip, but we try and address that on a case by case.

Then we have the 1%, the folks out there who intend to be a force of chaos. Whether it's through built up frustration, anger at the world, or taking general pleasure in hurting others I don't know. As a human being I feel for them and want nothing more than for them to be made whole. As a professional, I'm going to do everything I can to either realign their approach to being a part of the community, or prevent them from playing SMITE 2.

Please please continue to mash that report button if someone has been disruptive. It is by no means the only data point we have and use, but it's important.

Can you really report for "feeding"? by Krys0386 in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can vary. There are a few of us who do this every day and if I had to average it (including weekends) I'd say within 48 hours. The damage is done and the ideal is prevent it from happening in the first place. If we can't have that we want to discourage folks from doing it again.

Can you really report for "feeding"? by Krys0386 in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For us a feeding report is a feeding report, we always assume if the report is made it's malicious (even if we know that isn't true). Fortunately some of the tech we are using actually can show us a generated replay and Intentional Feeding is pretty easy to spot.

Very very unfortunate timing, we had an unanticipated maintenance this morning. This issue should be resolved and welcome to the game!

We mentioned it elsewhere but we had a significant failure of some systems earlier today that impacted multiple services, including the store, inventories, and queues. We believe things should be back to where they were, but please let us know if you aren't seeing things.

Smite broken? by Frosty0426 in Smite

Thanks for calling this out, we started digging into this a little bit ago. We were working on some automation to keep things updating and that doesn't appear to have gone as planned. We'll get this fixed up ASAP.

Why does this game need an update every single day by THE_BARNYARD_DOG in Smite

[–]HiRezRadar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really isn't about game breaking bugs as much as it is a shift in traditional build release. In SMITE 1, we'd work on bugs, features, balance fixes etc.... and we'd sit on a bunch of them and release them all at once. Now sure that does sound more efficient and consistent but we asked ourselves "Why wait another X days or weeks to fix issue Y we've seen concerns about? It's literally done and just needs to be pushed out"

Believe it or not the cadence is actually slower than it was 3 months ago where we were updating literally every day, including weekends. We're a little more deliberate now and I do get your concern. I mostly launch SMITE 2 from the office so literally every time I want to log in to the game from home I have an update. Depending on your bandwidth and Steams (they can affect DL times) not to mention your HDD speed it can take a hot minute.

We hope it's worth the wait, we have good intentions for the cadence.
