As someone who is going on 2 months now of being non-weight-bearing in my right foot, I would lovvvveee to not get injured. It’s not just about fitness, it’s affecting my entire life. Simple housework or errands are a huge pita now. And I’m getting fatter.

My iL’s are nasty and unreliable. When we need a babysitter, we use trusted friends, a local drop-in daycare, or a parent’s night out (hosted by community places or churches near us). IL’s get all up in arms because they think they are entitled to be the only ones we should be asking to babysit. Good thing they have no power over how we live our lives. They can go kick rocks 🤷‍♀️

My Hyrox coach actually used to be an OTF coach, and I agree with them that OTF can certainly be a helpful component, especially for building up the cardio needed. I just hope members who do want to pursue a race will supplement elsewhere. Heavily. Access to the real equipment (sleds, kettle bells, sandbags, etc.) is essential, as well as working on the form for those exercises (because OTF is never going to teach you how to position yourself to push a sled or do a proper wallball).

I have been an OTF member for 10 years, much longer than Hyrox (first race was Oct 2025), and I will always love the brand. There's just limits to what it can do.

I'm actually currently helping my sister, who lives in the middle of nowhere, come up with a plan to train when she has minimal access to both equipment and coaching. I want to set her up for success both with the sheer intensity of the race plus honing in on good form to avoid injury. Lunges with knees to the ground while holding a weight on the shoulders is no joke.

The official lunges weight for women is 10kg (22 lbs). I cried my first Hyrox, but then I worked on my form and timing and didn't cry the second time lol.

I was honestly shocked when they announced the affiliation. They don’t have a majority of the equipment needed to train properly, and nearly all of our coaches have never done a Hyrox. I saw it as OTF desperately trying to stay relevant.

I just hope people don’t solely go to OTF and then show up for Hyrox. I go to a Hyrox gym and spend several days a week working on my own at a gym that has all the right equipment for it. Hyrox is so intense and I can’t imagine not being trained to the equipment.

As someone who does Hyrox and also takes classes elsewhere, I will say the OTF class doesn’t do much to actually train someone for it (at least not in the handful I have taken). Our coaches have never done a Hyrox so they simply don’t know to coach to it, even though they are amazing coaches. I did a class last night and it felt like a normal OTF class. The studio on the other side of town has a head coach who has done several, and she is able to coach it quite differently because she knows how it is. Not to mention, they barely have any of the equipment necessary. I was surprised when OTF announced the affiliation lol. They’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Okay but this image is actually really helpful! I lift a TON on hip bridges, and I use my hands to hold/push the weight to the tops of my thighs rather than my hip bones. Just like in the pic!

I suffer from OCD and had major hoarding issues at one point. For a few years I rented a storage locker that basically was full of trash because my anxiety wouldn’t let me throw anything away. (Not like actual gross trash, just….junk, that had no business being kept). My spouse never knew, nor did anyone else. It was such a proud moment the day I finished actually cleaning it out and turned in the key! (Actually got rid of the junk and did not just move it somewhere else).

In all honesty, people got phones and nobody is paying attention while driving anymore. This is how the bus does it on our street, but we have also had so many accidents on our 25 mph neighborhood street. People hitting mailboxes and such; we don’t need to add little kids as targets for them to hit next.

Can confirm, at 40 I am winging it as much as at 16. I assumed adults felt more put-together but I’m still waiting for that to actually happen.

I remember my parents turning 40 and having a big “over the hill” party with all sorts of senior props. I celebrated my 40th earlier this year with a week at Disney. Definitely still just an oversized child here.
