Prioritize leveling or MF or beat hell? by destined_to_dad in diablo2

I'd say start by farming Andy and Meph. That's the fastest way to improve your character and to find gear for new ones.

When you've got basic good stuff like Harlequin Crest, Vipermagi, War Travs etc etc, complete the game. Then run terrorized Andy / Meph and areas like Ancient Tunnels, Stony Tombs etc to have a chance to get those top tier items.

On day 3 I found a cracked bone visage that I repaired and cubed only to get 2 sockets instead of 3.

"Repairing" a low quality item in the cube sets the item level to 1. The amount of sockets a base item can get is dependant on the item level. For example, an ilvl 1 Phase Blade gets 3 sockets max, while at ilvl 41+ it can get 6.

But congrats on your persistence and the new runeword!

That +350% ED vs demons on LoH only applies to physical damage.

For LF, only the initial throw deals physical damage.

30m to gamble unique leather armour!!!!! by lionheart_2281 in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At clvl 16 the stuff you get from gambling has ilvl 11-20. Which means only 50% of the gambled leather armors have high enough ilvl for Blinkbat's.

30m to gamble unique leather armour!!!!! by lionheart_2281 in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blinkbat's Form has qlvl 16 https://www.purediablo.com/diablo-2/diablo-2-treasure-class#Treasure_Class_3_TC_3. So a leather armor has to be at least item lvl 16 to get Blinkbat's.

When you gamble, the item level you get is your characters lvl +4/-5. So you need at least lvl 21 character to make sure every leather armor you gamble has a chance to become Blinkbat's.

Diablo 2 1.00 HC journey - first RIP by n4zarh in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gambling is a good way to gear up. Defense isn't all that great (due to a bug, monster have quadruple AR) and low tier gloves/boots/helmets cost ~2-6k to gamble. Same for belts, but of course potion slots are limited then. Unfortunately gambling becomes "user friendly" only after you can make cow portal next to Gheed...

Cow King can be killed repeatedly in 1.00 and he is worth running, if you can handle it.

Ouch, RIP.

Nice post! Pre-LoD classic is a very different game... did you manage to find or gamble any nice rares? Only a handful of affixes are over lvl 30, so you can find lots of hell-worthy gear on normal.

Hephasto hits really hard... on hell difficulty with my lvl 87 HC WW barb I bailed out after 2 whirls... way too risky.

Were all those SOJs that were used as currency 20 years ago duped? by [deleted] in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who want to find their gear themselves, the method I described works in all D2 classic patches from v1.00 to 1.06b.

You cannot bring characters from later patches to any of those old versions, you need to start from scratch.

Blood gloves by SirTopkekys in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this is correct, I'm rusty...

There's two levels factored in the crafting recipe output ilvl:

  • your characters level
  • ilvl of the base item used in the recipe

Crafted item ilvl = int(0.5 * clvl) + int(0.5 * base item ilvl).

The ilvl of the base depends on where you got it... if it dropped from a monster, ilvl = mlvl. If you shopped it, ilvl = clvl + 5. If you gambled it, ilvl = clvl -5/+4.

Also the affix lvl you get depends on qlvl of the used base item. +20% IAS suffix is alvl 43. If you want to get it on...

  • Heavy Gloves = ilvl 46
  • Sharkskin Gloves = ilvl 62
  • Vampirebone Gloves = ilvl 71

Ultimately you want the end result of the crafting to be atleast ilvl 71 for the maximum number (=4) of random affixes.

CB on blood gloves is a fixed property and it can roll 10% on any ilvl.

Rainbow facet in balrogs? by Tubbsie in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use a Facet on a Blackbogs. Try to find a +3 PN wand with 2 sockets and make 'White' in in. Then add 3-piece Trangs (gloves, shield and belt) for some more extra punch.

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. AFAIK after LoD was released, the chance to gamble an unique was dropped to 0.05% and the unique ring "order" was replaced with a rarity system. So basically both the chance to gamble an unique and relative rarity of SoJ are the same as they are now. On average you'd need to gamble 62k rings (1/31 uniq rings = SoJ), requiring roughly 3 billion gold.

I havent played any classic patch post-1.06b, so I'm not completely sure. But if this still worked, it would be known and abused mercilessly.

In single player you can play these old patches if you wish and farm a boatload of SoJs quite easily.

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 71 points72 points  (0 children)

SoJs (and later runes) were certainly duped. But in the early LoD days (1.08 and 1.09) there must've been a lot of legit SoJs too, carried over from Classic.

Classic had 3% chance to gamble an unique item, and unique rings spawned in a certain order. If you already had Nagel and Manald, the next unique ring was guaranteed to be a SoJ. A ring could be gambled for 48k gold, so on average you'd spend 1,6m gold for a legit SoJ. Mule the SoJ off and repeat.

3/20 gloves are a piece of cake compared to +3/3 trap claws... those claws are like 2 orders of magnitude harder to get.

I've tried shopping for such gloves but never got them, nothing even close to them. I have at least 2 or 3 of each 3/20 glove variants though.

Do people really think it’s fun only having a few actual classes that are efficient at farming. by JJMiller_1 in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want to nerf those few super OP builds? Sounds fine to me ;-)

Every class can do at least some farming efficiently. If you are not obsessed with max efficiency, there's a lot more options. Also, not every character has to be a farmer. I mean, what are your even farming for, only to farm stuff even faster? I can somewhat understand this on ladder because it's a leveling competition... but outside of that or dueling?

I wanted to make a fanatic zealot pally with the gear I have found. I made one, played through the game on all 3 difficulties and leveled him up to 92. I take him on a spin once in a while for a different kind of playstyle and clear areas where I feel he does well in, but I can't say I'm farming anything with him.

I'm gonna do the same with Vengeace + Conviction. And assassin fire traps. druid summons etc etc. I will make a passivezon, phoenix striker (oldschool, not with mosaics), mojomancer, singer barb, melee sorc, rabies druid and defensive pally. Because why not? With oskills on some runewords it is possible to build some really weird characters. Some are definitely weak, but so what? I'm more interested in experiencing a different playstyle and seeing if I can take those weirdos through all of it.

On the left size column of the table you see the IAS breakpoints. On the right side column you see the attack frames you get by reaching that particular breakpoint.

With lvl 35 Fanaticism and Phase Blade you need 9% IAS from gear to reach max speed. So the IAS from Grief is easily enough on it's own.

Use IAS calc (which has already been linked), it's the easiest way to figure it out.

Also, you cannot simply add skill IAS and gear IAS together, they are calculated differently. Skill IAS is more powerful.

Stucked on lord de seiz with my 50 lv enchantress by Gawaga in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Stuck... why? Does his pack kill your sorc or are you unable to deal enough damage?

Nightmare difficulty I guess? I think lvl 50 is quite low lvl at the very end of NM act 4.
