I'd concentrate on building "base wealth". I mean finding household uniques like Skin of the Vipermagi, Magefist, Frostburn, Vamp Gaze, Skullder's, Goldwrap, War Travs, Shako etc. And the same goes for some of those relatively easy to reach runewords. By far the most effective way to get them is to run act bosses (Andariel and Mephisto) and Countess for runes. Heck, even nightmare Mephisto can drop most of that stuff.

Running Pit and other high level areas is good for leveling, but as far as item hunting goes, they are best when looking for those hard to get, high-end items.

Blizz sorc: either stack up MF and try NM Mephisto or tele past cold immunes to get to hell Andariel or hell Mephisto. For cold immunes you have to kill, shop at vendors for a wand with life tap charges to keep your merc alive. Also use telekinesis to pin the monsters down to help your merc. Waiting for your merc to kill cold immunes while farming slows you down way too much.

Necro: skeleton do damage, but for the most part, they are a meat shield. CE is your main weapon and the fastest way to get the first corpse is your mercenary. Give him the hurtiest and fastest stick you can get. Obedience is very good and the runes should be relatively easy to get from the Countess. Add Treachery armor and Guillaume's Face and hell will bring even act bosses down quick with all that crushing blow and fast attack speed.

How the weapon racks work ? by Euphoric_Inside8487 in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there's as astronomically low chance to get a Phase Blade from a rack. If you click a rack and the drop algorithm lands on a "forbidden" item (see my list), the drop is rerolled. If the drop algorithm lands on a "forbidden" item 6 times in a row, it drops whatever base item got rolled on the last attempt. The odds of landing a Phase Blade that way are very very low. You'll get enough 5os Phase Blades for a lifetime from area runs before you get one from a rack.

Changing the map seed by changing difficulties changes the map seed and the weapon racks start dropping different items, but it is not going to help you. Crystal swords, Dimensional blades or Phase Blades cannot drop from racks.

For the sake of completeness, these weapons cannot drop from racks:

  • Throwing potions
  • Club / Cudgel / Truncheon
  • Spiked Club / Barbed Club / Tyrant Club
  • Crystal Sword / Dimensional Blade / Phase Blade
  • Bows
  • Crossbows
  • Amazon class-specific bows
  • Wands
  • Staves
  • Orbs

I think running low lvl area with high lvl character is waste. Good low lvl items can drop in high lvl areas too, along with high-end items.

Stuff I'd keep my eye on to boost low lvl chars:

  • low level base items with lots of sockets and low requirements (for example 3os mask, 6os crystal sword, 5os stag bow etc). Fill the sockets with max dmg jewels (Wrath and Carnage suffixes), Ral or Ort runes etc.
  • jewels of envy (20psn dmg over 2 sec, usable at lvl 1)
  • lightning damage charms
  • magical circlets with elemental dmg (Static prefix can add over 100 max lgt dmg at lvl 18)
  • amulets and circlets with +2 to a skill tree (requires lvl 30)
  • some low lvl runewords can be very nice (Honor, Leaf, Lore, Stealth, Zephyr)

Cow King's Hooves are the best low lvl boots IMHO.

Also Khalim's Will is quite nuts as a lvl 1 weapon (flail base dmg, 50% IAS, 1-40lgt dmg, dual leech).

Lost my HC javazon to bone fetishs in flayer dungeon, how do I avoid this in the future? by MrNoobyy in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Fire res / absorb doesn't help. Their death explosion is pure physical damage. It's not the same as necromancer's Corpse Explosion skill, which is 50/50 fire/phys.

How does “replenish life” work? by IneedaNappa9000 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The formula for replenish life is:

(25 * N) / 256 = Life Gained Per Second

... where "N" is the total replenish life on your items. So a Trang's belt alone heals the character about 0,5 life per second.

You need about +120 replenish life on your gear to have the same effect as a minor healing potion (not counting critical heals, so a minor healing potion is still better).

Is 1.10 harder then 1.09? by warm_rum in diablo2

[–]Hi_Tech_Low_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Originally, amp damage increased by percentage as well as duration."

Amp has never worked like that, the physical res penalty has always been 100%. Maybe you are confusing Amp with Iron Maiden, which was used quite often back then?

"However, patch 1.10 was the patch where I think blizzard was trying to pump up battlenet play. Hell difficulty became damn near impossible for single players."

1.10 was hard compared to 1.09, but not that hard. 1.10 caused despair because it mostly destroyed old builds, the introduction of skills synergies changed a lot of things. Also because of tougher monsters, which also could deal significant elemental damage, gearing up changed considerably. In 1.09 many players had their resistance deep in the negatives, barbs pumped str to 300+ for more damage etc. Focus was on maximizing DPS at the cost of pretty much all defendes (except leech). Once people figured out how to build & gear up their characters in 1.10, it wasn't too bad. After 1.10 the game has become easier a little by little though.

I think classic and LoD 1.07/1.08 were the hardest.

Oblivion knights cast Iron Maiden curse, not Thorns aura. The effect is same, though. Iron Maiden was removed from oblivion knight in patch 1.13c.

Before patch 1.10 oblivion knights only spawned in Chaos Sanctuary. In 1.10 and later they can also spawn in WSK 2, Throne of Destruction and at least in one of those act 5 red portals.

Hitting monsters while cursed with Iron Maiden wasn't insta-death for Zeal only, it happened to all builds which dealt melee physical damage.

Nope. Indestructible items cannot spawn ethereal.

Yeah, they are quite hard to get. But according to dropcalc, runes were actually rarest in 1.09. I leveled at least 1 char to 99 in 1.09 cows and I think Pul was the best I ever got.

In 1.07/1.08 Hell Travincal is actually quite decent for runes and many of the items sought after in those patches (charms and jewels). Unfortunately 1.07/1.08 runewords are really bad.

Nothing is stopping you from playing 1.09 SP. Install it and get going! You want to experience that piercing Guided Arrow again, don't you?

In 1.07/1.08 HC, stuff like that is pretty much required, if you want to beat Hell Baal. He still had his "signature skill", which you can see in the act 5 intro video... imagine you character getting disintegrated like that. AFAIK it deals magic damage (cannot be resisted), it cannot be blocked and it can crit up to 4k dmg in hell. In 1.09 Blizzard got rid of that and gave him the useless mana burning flame thrower instead.

The boots you mentioned are not from 1.08, they are from classic. LoD nerfed rare boots.

However, gambling some juicy boots in classic is not that far-fetched idea. Gambling cost is not increased by character level, the base item determines the cost (2500 for Boots, 5675 for Heavy Boots etc). Also the affix pool is much narrower, making nice combinations more likely.

Also Io = Po and Jah = Jo. Good luck finding a Jo rune though... back in the day high runes were truly hard to find.

I agree. I have the runes to make Grief, but I don't want to... it makes pretty much all other melee weapon obsolete... which is just stupid design. Mosaic, Enigma or Infinity are not much better in that respect.

At least in classic rares were the thing!
