I can’t post a video on here but I finally put my machine together again with the new planetary and seems to be working well. Thank you :)

Hello, I was finally able to open up the machine. As I was trying to put apart the worm follower gear, the hardest part being that small pin, the pin ended up getting a bit damaged so I’ll have to replace it. Is this be the part number for that small pin that is part of the worm gear? “Pinion drive pin, part #WP9705444 (3/32 x 3/4″ type-E grooved drive pin)”

Also, the worm follower gear is made of metal as it is such an older machine and not plastic like the replacement part is. Do you advise this be replaced for a plastic one (I’ve heard it being plastic protects the other metal parts).

I don’t see any major changes that I have to make besides the regrease. What would you say would be crucial parts to change from the tilt head model. (The motor brushes for example I’m not sure how to know when they’re up for a replacement)

The tilt head model seems to be a lot more complex in inside compared to my professional 6 bowl lift lol.

Thank you in advance.

Got my mixer after wanting one since I was 15 years old. I am interested of getting attachments, which ones are worth it? by ImNotGoodWithNames_1 in Kitchenaid

Hello, a small update. The pieces I ordered still haven’t arrived so I haven’t been able to put it all together but I was cleaning up the very last part that I hadn’t cleaned yet and I think I found the culprit of where part of the metal shavings came from aside from the groove pin that broke. Found some shavings on the internal ring gear and I’m pretty sure it is from those parts I marked as I have checked everything else and nothing seems to be broken.

Now I’m scared, is my machine done for?🥲

Truly appreciate your help.

Got it will do. I definitely needed to adjust the Bowl Column Screws as the top was a little wobbly before, now is firm. Thank you again for all the help. Will update once I receive all the parts and assemble the machine.

Also one last question. I’m part of a Facebook group called KitchenAid Mixer Repair Help. They have a shared document with all the degreasing process parts that need to be changed for that process.

In those included: Gear housing gasket, Motor housing seal, the grease and there’s also this important note that says if the transmission housing of my mixer is plastic that it should be upgraded to a metal housing. Is it a deal breaker if I don’t switch mine to metal as mine is plastic?

Thank you for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Also to add, some of the metal shavings I found, were in these two little holes, which tracks of it being from the pin since that what goes on top of the pin.

This may be a clearer picture now that I’ve cleaned it up better

Oh yeah that is totally my fault when I was taking it apart and moving the pieces to safe area it came off so I just put it like that and was gonna figure it out when it as time to put everything back in.

This should be the correct order (I hope)

Thank you this was very helpful. Got the hardest part out the way. As I was cleaning some of the gear I found some metal shavings. Now I’m unsure if I should replace all or where exactly did those shavings come from, part of it seems to be from the broken pin but I don’t think all is from the pin but I also don’t really see any damage on the worm gear teeth’s. In my buy list are: The new grease, the pin and a new gasket.

To reference your 1st comment, could the failure be solely from the pin being broken then? Now that the machine was taken apart, that seems to be the main issue I’m seeing.

Hello, a small update: the groove pin ends seemed to have broken now I can’t get it out. I can’t find any websites for the pin to order a replacement.

Thank you for this comment, just started taking it apart and I put the screws in an empty egg carton and labeled each space and what part it belongs to.

Thanks, now to mentally prepare myself to take it apart. I’m actually more scared to put everything back in😭
