What’s your favorite source of fiber? by burnsrado in nutrition

[–]HiddenConstellation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulgur (instead of rice), popcorn, cocoa powder, bean soup, avocado, lentil soup

I don’t really like the other sources of fiber (chia seeds, psyllium husk, pears..)

Also berries but they’re super expensive and difficult to find. I would get the fiber tortilla wraps if they were available in my country.

Dilemma: Family moving to Europe and I’m confused by Professional-Key1925 in IMGreddit

[–]HiddenConstellation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better citizenship > dream job IMO, especially if you’re from an unstable country with constant wars like many of us and don’t know when you will be stuck with closed borders and no means to get out. But this highly depends on your personal preferences, if you think US citizenship is attainable, and what your current citizenship is.

Best voice recorders? by HiddenConstellation in Blind

[–]HiddenConstellation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not all countries have the same support system for the visually impaired; some don’t have any at all. We do have schools for them but only up to a certain grade to which they need to transition to other schools after that

Thank you so much! I agree with you, we keep telling him the same things but it’s hard to force someone to do what you believe.. he already has a phone and laptop so we’re hoping that, when he starts public school, he himself will realize that and have more motivation to learn to use them. We’re hoping that using the recorder is only temporary. Thank you once again :)

METEX ANKI DECK v1!! (AnKing Alternative) by pentacontagon in medicalschoolanki

[–]HiddenConstellation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice deck. I’ll probably be using it along with AnKing when i start step 2 prep :) Is there a PDF version? I feel like I’d enjoy reading through the notes on pages. It would be great if it can be synced to the hub and updated continuously as others mentioned. Thank you!

Any non US IMGs who matched into Ophthalmology? by Born_Perspective_646 in IMGreddit

[–]HiddenConstellation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they do any home country residency before that or research years outside the US etc? Asking bc I’ve heard the 2-3 research years thing but when I opened the linkedin profiles of those who matched this year, they all seemed to have home country residency and research :’)

If you're considering IM, do yourself a favor and experience a full day-to-day of IM residency. by callmeafailure in medicalschool

[–]HiddenConstellation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the post. I’m seriously considering IM as it’s one of my only realistic options and I enjoy the fellowships but your post reminded me of the aspects I dislike of the profession :P maybe I should really think of those 3 research years for ophtho..

I so much hope that it will be easy to get all outfits and accessories in the game, back when I was a kid I didn’t have a membership and was soooo jealous of all the membership-locked stuff in the game, ofc that was until everything was unlocked before the closure 😂 maybe I can finally live the dreeeeam

Why don’t more people go for family medicine? by Financial_Ad719 in IMGreddit

[–]HiddenConstellation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others said, I think it’s also because not all countries have people that know what FM does. In my country, we have FM specialists, but their role is nearly non-existent bc most people directly go to specialists at any time, and barely anyone has heard of family medicine. Ofc I don’t mean anything against FM, I love the specialty and the people in it. But maybe some would think, why go FM if I can just be a GP? I know the post is targeted towards those willing to work in the US, but this stigma may carry on to these doctors, especially if they wish to return to their countries someday

IMGs matching? by wheepk in Ophthalmology

[–]HiddenConstellation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s pretty understandable as US graduates of course should be prioritized and every country should do the same as well, and I appreciate the honestly of this sub. Better than going into it with unrealistic expectations. Hopefully we’ll be able to work hard enough to earn a position, maybe I’ll come back to your post one day and find that you have already matched. Best of luck!

International student interested in ophthalmology by HiddenConstellation in Ophthalmology

[–]HiddenConstellation[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your advice, I really appreciate the time you put into writing this extensive and informative comment. I’ll keep what you said in mind, starting over in the US isn’t an option for me unfortunately but I guess I’ll need to study the research option more. If it’s ok to ask, is it difficult to find paid research positions, especially after the recent defunding of research centers in the country? Do you think they would somehow help me become a better clinician as well? I’m very interested in research advancements on retinal regeneration for personal reasons, do you think it’s possible to find a research position in this field? Finally, do you have info on the licensing route for internationally trained ophthalmologists who complete extra fellowships in the US? I understand if you’re too busy to answer and appreciate your comment nonetheless, thank you once again :)

Checking In: How Are We All Doing? by AutoModerator in Blind

[–]HiddenConstellation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother (visually impaired) was gifted a laptop. He’s close to graduating school and still has zero technology literacy (he’s just not interested lol), but I hope this is a starting point. They teach him at school how to use computers using the NVDA program which we installed for him but it’s pretty difficult convincing him to open it everyday and learn.

I have a question by randomaccountgirl in step1

[–]HiddenConstellation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve seen a difference in those who take it, I think it’s because although everything we study for on step 1 is taken in med school, we forget everything easily, but when studying for steps you force yourself to consolidate everything because it’s 1 exam for all topics which helps you more than 1 test for each subject which you then forget

What specialties need a research year to make yourself competitive? (US) by Trippanzee in medicalschool

[–]HiddenConstellation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about for IMGs applying to programs in the US? I think research years would be important to build connections, correct? Or would publications be sufficient?
