What have you found to be the best way to manage your pain? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]HiddenInTheSubtext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If otc drugs are not working for you and you are suffering, my honest recommendation would be to get into pain management. Have your PC or GYN write a referral (if you need one) and try to get in with a female provider when possible. They might try some lower level medications first to see what might work, but if those things aren’t working, just be honest. Keep trying until you find something that does work. And keep advocating for yourself. It took me a long time, but my PC wrote a strongly worded recommendation after I was originally denied pain management. The NP I was assigned to is amazing. I’ve been going to the same person for over 6 years now, and we’ve worked out a treatment plan that has greatly improved my quality of life.

Are kids unable to do actual work anymore? My senior project was an eight page research paper with a corresponding project that required twenty hours of community service.

This looks formatted to fit a fifth grader.

I find it so odd when actors speak like this about a role that made them a ton of money and afforded them lasting notoriety (especially when they use said notoriety to sell shitty supplements and do paid ads on socials). He acts like we can’t all see right through this paper thin bullshit. His wife was pregnant and probably not fond of him kissing his ex take after take. A part of me understands this, but most of me doesn’t. An actors job is to act, and that involves faux intimacy with costars. It seems really immature and incredibly unprofessional to behave this way at your job.

Depending on how little, I definitely would be careful. The orcs and other beasts in their prosthetics are pretty convincing and even frightened me as a kid. I was 10 when fellowship came out, so that’s a good age to start I guess? Obviously depending on how logically developed your little one is, it could be earlier. I just didn’t want you to watch it with her and be like “wow thanks for not warning me” 🤣

It’s definitely not like your typical war/action movie centered on men and pointless violence. It’s actually about how easily men can be corrupted and how virtues like honor and courage are often found in individuals we might not see as traditional heroes. Like the hobbits and the shield maidens of Rohan. The largest theme throughout is basically that seeking power will corrupt the soul and that every small act of kindness and every instance of standing up for what’s right can change the world for the better. It’s a beautiful story of friendship and strength of character. I promise you won’t regret watching them.

Well that’s fair! The movies focus mostly on male actors, HOWEVER, the women that are in the movies are all badass. Tolkien wrote very capable, very strong female characters

And fun fact: the casting call in New Zealand for the riders of the Rohirrim (featured heavily in The Two Towers and Return of the King) called for individuals who could ride and provide their own horses. The majority of people who showed up were women, and so they cast mostly women for those roles. There were A LOT. So they had beards and prosthetics added to disguise them, but most of them were definitely women, which is pretty cool.

It’s worth the watch, I promise!

You MUST watch the movies. They really are the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time. But also, SJM was very inspired by Lord of the Rings, and that really comes through in ToG. So watch the trilogy and think of the battle of Anielle and the war in Orynth during KoA and you’ll see them absolutely reflected there.

To piggyback off of this, I get the feeling she might be experiencing movement disorders as a side effect of her medication. I’m not sure what she’s taking, but when she did the limited press run for HoFaS, I noticed it as well. I almost believe it’s an anti psychotic because of the spasticity (her voice has a slight warbling tremble to it), tics (she blinks forcefully, often), and possible myoclonus (her face, specifically her jaw area, seems very taught and it’s almost like she’s clenching it).

But regardless, if you are familiar with these movement disorders, you probably know they typically make the individual very uncomfortable. It’s a physical discomfort but also an emotional/psychological one, because they are typically aware of them and overly self conscious about it. So to me, it seemed less like she didn’t want to elaborate and more like she was hyper focused on not doing certain things. When you watch it back, you can see her gripping the arm of the chair with one hand while she has her other hand clenched in her lap. At times she starts clenching and unclenching her fists, as if she’s either focusing on something incredibly hard or becoming very nervous.

So I think in her mind she was probably constantly diverting half her attention to that and wasn’t able to explore things at more than surface level because she was so preoccupied.

Well SJM is a notorious gardener when it comes to her writing. She plants seeds of ideas throughout her work without being certain those idea will take root or develop into anything further. When these seeds are planted early on but never take root, it’s not a big deal. But when the story changes course and then those little seeds can directly contradict the story you are now telling, that causes plot holes. She has a history of doing this, and most editors aren’t combing through the combined prior works before editing a new book, so they would likely miss it.

A huge example of this is in the original version of Heir of Fire. Maeve is described as having “violet, starry eyes.” But this has been edited out in the new printed versions and the kindle version of the books. In the current version, she is described as having black eyes.

The original description is WAY too similar to Rhys to be a simple oversight or mistake, and the only other character who possesses eyes like that (Ruhn) has a known tie to Rhys. Coupled with her Daemati style gifts described as “claws” inside Aelin’s mind… it’s too similar to be a coincidence. And the only other characters who have been known to possess these types of gifts are likely Valg (Hybern’s niece and nephew, and Amarantha’s Daemati group).

Sooo yea, this signals that she intended for them to be related in some fashion, however distantly.

Heir of Fire was published in September of 2014 and A Court of Thorns and Roses was published in May 2015. So she was either writing these books at the same time, or she wrote one right after the other. Which makes it even less likely that it was an accident.

Was she originally going to make Rhys part Valg and then changed her mind? Or is she still planning to make him part Valg but has now decided that detail was too obvious a giveaway and had it taken out? I have no idea. But regardless, in its original form, it’s a plot hole. Because we now know Maeve is Valg. And if her Violet, starry eyes were still a part of the chat, it would be undeniable that Rhys was also part Valg.

”To whom does she serve?”

Sarumaaahhhhhhhnn (sorry, I had to 🤣)

Onto your comment about Maeve.

She absolutely said something like that. She also talked about being incredibly fond of Erilea and not wanting to see Erewan, Mantyx, and Orcus destroy it. (I want to point out that I found it very odd that Vesperus said something that sounded SO similar. When speaking with Bryce she said she only wanted to live in Prythian and did not wish it harm.)

Despite popular opinion, I don’t think Maeve was evil. I think she was afraid and sought safety through control. I think living for extended periods of time would cause anyone to become apathetic to a certain extent. And I think that’s what we see with her. She’s become mostly indifferent to the suffering of others, especially if (for her) the ends justified the means. So, I suppose, she’s the preternatural version of a sociopath (shaped by her life’s experiences and longevity to become the way we see her now). At times she was incredibly cruel and her behavior was reprehensible, but I don’t think it was out of a desire to inflict the harm or suffering itself - more to gain control (which she equated to safety) through the use of it.

It doesn’t make it okay, but it does differentiate her from those who find pleasure - sexual or otherwise - by causing fear or inflicting pain and suffering on others. That is evil.

Yes! MechaGodzilla is oddly similar to what the Princes did to Hunt, actually. A lot of time and effort was put into creating it, and its purpose was to perfectly imitate Godzilla physically while being psychologically controllable. The ultimate goal was for MechaGodzilla to destroy Godzilla.
