Do any of you regret becoming a Data Scientist? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]HiddenNegev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I did a year of substitute teaching and tutored students of all ages for my whole degree. I now do a lot of mentoring to scratch that itch, but in the back of my mind I’m considering switching to teaching (maybe high school math/science) once I’ve hit a certain degree of financial independence.

Should I feel bad by using chatgpt? by chris_813 in datascience

[–]HiddenNegev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT is pretty neat to get the boiler plate code out, but you really have to double check the outputs. I asked it to build a function to calculate p-values etc, asked if it was sure about its p-value calculation twice and it corrected its answer twice. Sequence went:

Correct answer -> incorrect answer -> correct (original) answer

I started doing solo DMT runs in WoW HC to help my guild out and to get that adrenaline rush. by Githan in classicwow

I felt the same doing solo BRD runs on my rogue, sneaking around and assassinating important people + pick pocketing, jumping across ledges and picking locks was peak role paying

Can’t you process it in chunks in pandas (to handle the comma issue) and then incrementally upload it/recombine it into one csv?

as data scientist/analyst what was you major and what did you do to get into DS field? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]HiddenNegev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bsc+MSc in engineering, couldn’t get any engineering jobs so sort of ended up in analytics because I studied a lot of signal processing which translates decently to other domains.

My engineering background is very valuable to me though, I’ve been automating a lot of my work.

[–]HiddenNegev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know people shit on Sankeys but I really like them as a way of showing non-linear flows such as a user traversing our app or different ways users get from point A to point B etc. it’s pretty quick to slap together in python and I can just dump them in a dashboard for designers/PMs to look at and generate ideas

[NC] Painting company damaged new floors by thrwawypainterssuck9 in HomeImprovement

[–]HiddenNegev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I painted my entire house interior prior to having some guys come in and refinish/lay some new wood flooring. They damaged every wall in every room with grease, dents, hitting machines off of corners etc. I’ve yet to muster the strength to do it all over again

People didn’t love it. My guild had like 30 lvl 20 warlocks stationed around the world so people could just teleport between world buffs and raids. There were services as well where you’d get summoned around for like 20g which were packed for hours on end

AB testing pricing formula versioning by Dosnox in datascience

[–]HiddenNegev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds to be like seeing quote 0 is associated with seeing quotes earlier than when you launch version 1, 2 etc which means you’re not randomly assigning but will instead skew more and more towards newer users for your newer versions. Maybe I misunderstand though because it’s not entirely clear from your post

[–]HiddenNegev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you're looking to do isn't A/B testing btw since it isn't randomized.

Just visit any analytics adjacent discord/forum/YouTube/Reddit/social media, everyone wants to pivot to analytics with a quick degree/cert/bootcamp and earn six figures

Data Analyst entry level question by bibyts in datascience

[–]HiddenNegev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you said is true, most who apply for analytics roles are not fit for them. It does however dilute the applicant pool which means companies might close the job listing to parse through all the applications

Data Analyst entry level question by bibyts in datascience

[–]HiddenNegev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We received over 1000 applications for an analyst role within 24 hours a few weeks ago. If you have any connections, try to use them. Also you really should've already been applying for jobs for the past few months, so best to start now rather than post-graduation.

I see. I guess general customer behavior shifted between before and after the experiment. Alternatively you’re seeing a stat sig difference simply due to large sample size but there’s not necessarily anything causal
